Previous thread. I think we'll be a bit short of royal outfits as they're all off on their holidays atm. But Kate's regatta is coming up next week, hence the thread title!

Same rules as always - keep it light, critique the clothes rather than the women, and don't believe anything printed in the Daily Mail Grin

Omg, 4 year old does not have firm grasp of all social graces and makes a small, age appropriate slip-up. Well. Better just burn the little witch, amirite?

She’s. 4. FFS.

pallisers · 09/08/2019 13:29

Princess Charlotte is in danger of fast losing the cuteness factor if she sticks out her tongue like that in public. She is being a brat which is not endearing.

She is not a commodity. She didn't buy into any position. She is a 4 year old child who didn't chose her parents. Have you ever seen photos of the crowds that are taking photographs of them? I wonder how your own children would behave if they were faced with the masses of photographers shouting at them. Quite possibly someone stuck their tongue out at her and she responded. In any case she is a preschooler.

The spanish infantas are the most beautifully dressed royal children.

BertrandRussell · 09/08/2019 13:32

Fine that she stuck her tongue out. Not fine that everyone layghed.

BertrandRussell · 09/08/2019 13:32

Or even laughed.

megletthesecond · 09/08/2019 13:35

4 year old in behaving like normal 4 year old shocker 🤷‍♀️.

pallisers · 09/08/2019 13:42

Fine that she stuck her tongue out. Not fine that everyone layghed.

Really? Maybe the ones laughing saw what prompted it. Maybe the crowd was laughing at her too. I don't care how rich they are I wouldn't have their lives for anything - where a 4 year old is considered fair game for sniffy commentary and a mother laughing is considered a terrible thing. I

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/08/2019 13:45

I'll give Charlotte a pass on account of only turning 4 a few months ago. If she was still doing it at 8/9 then it's a different story!

Same here. It’s revolting.

No amount of money would make that worthwhile. And even if they are encouraging her to have an irreverent attitude towards the press - good! Because she’s going to need it when they start ripping her to shreds like they do every other royal woman at one time or another. If she took them seriously it might destroy her.

She’s a little girl who is destined to be attacked and pilloried and hated at some point in her life because that seems to happen to all of them, and that’s tragic. So let’s her stick her tongue out. Poor child.

LenoVintura · 09/08/2019 14:00

I'm on the fence about the tongue, naughty but she is only 4. She's absolutely stunning though isn't she? I think the RF is going to get a proper homegrown beauty when she's older.

MotherofPearl · 09/08/2019 14:08

Catch up on all the regatta chat and fashion.

I agree that the striped top yesterday wasn't Kate's best look, but she looked so relaxed and happy it didn't matter. I agree with what @Rhubarbisevil said about a plain white fitted tee looking much nicer. Oh even, dare I say it, a trusty Breton!

Btw, going back to the skincare chat from a few threads ago, I have finally cracked open my Nivea Soft and can report that I'm really enjoying it. Great everyday cream and very cheap indeed.

MotherofPearl · 09/08/2019 14:11

Catching Confused

ElspethFlashman · 09/08/2019 14:33

MotherofPearl I dithered between the repurchasing the Nivea Soft and trying Astral Soft but finally chose the Astral cos it turns out it sinks in faster and has less fragrance. So far I'm absolutely loving it. I still have a special place in my heart for the Nivea Soft though.

Cheapie face cream FTW! Grin

Re: Charlotte's comment about 'you're not coming' to the Press. I wondered if it might be related to George - seemingly not so outgoing as his little sister - being reassured by his parents that the Press 'weren't coming' - and Charlotte simply copied it.

I don't spend too much of my life wondering about conversations between the Cambridge family - honestly! Grin

JaimeBronde · 09/08/2019 15:20

I'm wondering if Fergie was in the crowd waving & pulling faces at Charlotte, so Charlotte responded in kind.
Bless her she's only 4 & it must be very overwhelming to be living in a goldfish bowl where every little move or action is scrutinised by everyone & his mother.

Haworthia · 09/08/2019 15:47

Oh, calm down people! A few of us were mildly surprised by Charlotte’s little act of rudeness and didn’t find it all that cute, that’s all. No need to get so het up in her/the RF’s defence.

Just as long as everyone leaps to Archie’s defence (and MM of course) if he pulls a similar little stunt in four year’s time.

ElspethFlashman · 09/08/2019 15:50

Well said!

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 09/08/2019 15:54

I remember a little page boy doing the same thing at one of the Royal weddings. It is rude to stick out your tongue and I think people who find it cute must find it acceptable for kids to do at home too.

Personally I don’t think it’s cute, it’s definitely not funny and I would not be happy if my child did it tbh.

JaimeBronde · 09/08/2019 15:56

😜

PinguDance · 09/08/2019 16:02

I can’t say I find little kids sticking their tongues out rude - my grandad and I used to do it to each other all the time. I do it with my friends small kids as a kind of game. Is this a ‘disgusted of Tunbridge Wells’ moment?

AdaColeman · 09/08/2019 16:36

Charlotte's only four, thank heavens that she didn't stick her thumbs in her ears and waggle her fingers whilst poking her tongue out, that would have been absolutely appalling! Wink

itswinetime · 09/08/2019 17:15

I just think we can't judge for all we know she was pulling that face at William or grandad or a particular person not the 'masses' these things are about a bit about context! If the press were pulling faces at her (which they have done in the past) is she meant to be mature enough to just walk on by?

And she's young I agree at 8 it's a problem! At 4 when we don't really know what was going on it's not that big a deal 🤷🏻‍♀️ I get everyone has different standards to some it's never acceptable that's their opinion! Personally I think it's nice that she is a kid and not some robot there will be lots of time to get bogged down with protocol in her life

She's not alone either a selection of royals sticking their tongues out even as adults

Royal style & gossip: Breton stripes and skinny jeans...
ElspethFlashman · 09/08/2019 17:25

I'm going down an Internet wormhole and have been quite taken aback by the amount of Nannies William and Harry had. Let's take a look, shall we?

#1: Barbara Barnes: from Williams birth to when he was 4, so Harry for the first couple of years as well. William absolutely adored Barbara and rumour has it he used to climb into her bed before breakfast each morning. This did not go down well with a jealous Diana, who thought Barbara was getting too familiar entirely, and Barbara was released from her role.

#2: Olga Powell. Formidable widow. From birth for 15 years. First was Deputy under Barbara Barnes, but took over in the interim when she left. She was a no nonsense type who Diana respected. She was very proper and brisk. She played a Grandmother role and was invited to absolutely everything even long after they didn't need a Nanny anymore, right until her death.

Or the people calling a 4 year old a brat or a little madam could calm down.
