What watch could be described as 'classy' please?

I'd like to treat myself to a grown up watch and be a bit more stylish. It's to wear to work (full time office job). I can't find anything I'd describe as 'classy'. Please can anyone offer me some inspiration?

@stumpedasatree
Are you my daughter??? Grin

Yaflamingalah · 24/07/2019 12:29

Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso - has a manual mechanism, top class watchmaking and understated.

My dad has one of these. He's had it for about 60 years, so very vintage. It still looks absolutely beautiful.

GenevaMaybe · 24/07/2019 12:35

I have a Cartier Santos tank. Love it

Stumpedasatree · 24/07/2019 12:45

@Ozziewozzie, pretty sure my mum isn't on MN (you never know though!)

My langines is a grande classique. Really thin (4ml?) and simple and lovely - has been commented on by strangers. Once I’m sure we were given something (a good table?/an upgrade?) due to someone clicking it - madness. Bought in Spain some time ago unexpectedly and have never spent so much on anything (other than property car art travel). Really love it.

Can't believe the amount of people who would spend Cartier Tank money for a battery operated watch.

bebeboeuf · 24/07/2019 14:24

The expensive carrier tanks are automatic mechanical movements

bebeboeuf · 24/07/2019 14:25

Carrier _= cartier

I have a 1950s Omega men’s watch. It’s white and rose gold, on a brown leather strap, with a very plain face. I love it.

BenWillbondsPants · 24/07/2019 15:27

Imo- Citizen, Skagen, and Storm could never be described as classy. They are high street at best.

IMO A high end brand doesn't alway equal 'classy'. Quite the opposite sometimes - some high end watches are (again, IMO) pretty ostentatious, which is never classy.

I’ve had this one for pushing 20 years and it’s still going strong. I love it because it’s distinctive, solid, easy to read and has no fancy bells and whistles.

Cartier and Omega as already mentioned and Piaget, Van Cleef and Arpels, Chopard, Tiffany and A. Lange & Sohne.

Bluntness100 · 24/07/2019 18:01

Op, what's your budget? That's a critical point. We can all say what we think is classy but if they are not at the price point then it's irrelevant.

I wear the tag aqua racer diamond watch attached and also the Ebel wave, but either will cost between 1500 - 2000.

Another vote for Tissot. Understated, reasonably priced, classy.

namechangerreloaded · 24/07/2019 18:06

Agree with a PP, I worked for a high end jeweller who specialised in a well known, very pricey watch brand. Nothing put me off the watches more, than the people who bought them. I do not think of them as classy or aspirational at all now.

Gatekeeper · 24/07/2019 18:12

Arrangement...I LOVE your watch. Elegant and distinctive

mrscampbellblackagain · 24/07/2019 19:03

Yes, what's the budget. I have a patek nautilus and love it. It is not at all blingy but very classic I think.

ArrangementOfmolecules · 24/07/2019 19:59

Gatekeeper thank you. When I googled to try find it I was pleased they still make the same design and shocked at just how much they’ve gone up over the years. I think mine was around £700 which felt like an absolute fortune. Still does actually .

Wavyheaded · 25/07/2019 02:26

Sarahlou63 that is a gorgeous watch, right up my street! Now if only I had 3 grand... Wink

PatriciaHolm · 25/07/2019 03:21

I have a Cartier Tank. I really want a Tag F1!

beingsunny · 25/07/2019 06:19

I have a Rolex oyster, classic and goes with everything

Paddingtonthebear · 25/07/2019 09:01

What's the budget? I think "classy" is quite a subjective thing. Best to go for what you like. Personally I like simple. I've got a Tag but I never wear it because the battery is dead and it costs a small fortune to replace (worth bearing in mind if you're investing in a really expensive watch - it's not just the initial outlay). I also have a Skagen watch which I love. Really simple and plain with a tan leather strap. I think Mondaine watches also look good.

Simonfromharlow · 25/07/2019 13:36

Hijacking a bit. I may need to sell my Rolex in the near future. Can anyone recommend the best place to sell? I'm worried about getting ripped off.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 25/07/2019 14:48

I have a Daniel Wellington watch (which is actually called Classy Sheffield Grin)

But I'd love a Tiffany East West or Atlas watch. Something like this www.tiffany.co.uk/watches/womens-watches/tiffany-east-west-mini-2-hand-22-mm-36668636/
