I've lost count of how many threads we've had! Previous thread.

Let's keep the gossip lighthearted and, as always, stick to critiquing the clothes rather than being overly critical about the women wearing them.

Hello article on Meghan and Vogue for those who prefer not to click DM links! The magazine is out in a few days so we don't have long to wait. Some good choices for the cover there.

Not sure where the stories about Meghan having a regular column and appearing on the cover and in a story, photographed by Annie Liebovitz came from.

I am trying really hard to be positive about MM, give her time let her get used to the Royal way, but bad press makes it difficult sometimes, when they sent out info. that they were not to be approached nor their dogs when out walking, when the Queen greets her neighbours normally just set my teeth on edge. I know it is hard I would find all the rules constricting as a Brit. But god please use your common sense and ask advice of those around you.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/07/2019 23:16

That was a weird one @justasking111. Apparently the briefing was done without their knowledge, according to BP. But surely their press team know the tabloids are just waiting for them to slip up?

Everything I have read over the last few days has said that information did not come from them, and that they had no idea it was said more that it was someone or a group thinking they were being helpful giving advice!

I'm also not sure the queen is your normal neighbour but as everyone that is a neighbour has experience with royalty I'm guessing they know how to interact with her!

I will reserve judgement on the vogue issue till it is out but I think the idea is a positive one I'm sure the press will have lots to say though 🙄

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/07/2019 23:20

Slightly poor choice of words from Edward Enninful about Meghan feeling being on the cover would be "'boastful' for this particular project". Because you can guarantee that the last 4 words will be left off when he's quoted by the press and it'll be seen as Meghan throwing shade at Kate 🙄

Had she been on the cover she would've been accused of hogging the spotlight so she can't win!

OP posts:
itswinetime · 28/07/2019 23:20

Even if they didn't know though I'm baffled why anyone would give advice like that without running it up the pole so to speak it was obviously going to get backs up 🤷🏻‍♀️

itswinetime · 28/07/2019 23:22

Had she been on the cover she would've been accused of hogging the spotlight so she can't win!

Absolutely and while I understand what she was saying I think not including any royals (although I completely see what she was saying and she would have been criticised either way) will cause a stir I'm sure!

Labrodite · 28/07/2019 23:23

The ‘do’s and don’ts’ story is a bit awkward for H&M, especially as their spokespeople have confirmed that it did happen. Fwiw, the palace have claimed that the ‘rules’ came from a staff member and not from H&M themselves. I think they need better staff.

thisenglishlife · 28/07/2019 23:24

There's so many unsubstantiated and twisted stories about Meghan and they get sillier by the day. No doubt she'll be criticised for the Vogue issue... whereas had another royal done it there would be lots of positive comments. Having said that, a DOC edited magazine would be interesting to me.

justasking111 · 28/07/2019 23:26

Wasn`t the Duchess of Cambridge on the cover fairly recently I seem to recall something.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/07/2019 23:27

I shall reserve judgement on Vogue til I've read it and I'll keep an open mind, but obviously some will be getting their knives sharpened before they buy it!

Absolutely they are such a focus for media attention right now, they should be surrounded be experienced people who know better! Even non pr trained me would have non that was going to cause issues!

Labrodite · 28/07/2019 23:28

This is surely one of the less controversial ways Meghan could’ve worked with Vogue. It very much ties into her ‘humanitarian’ brand, although I realise a proportion of the public might find that a bit eye roll-worthy.

Appearing on the cover herself wouldn’t be a great move with the negative press at the moment. Which is unfortunate because, selfishly, I’d love to have seen what she’d look like!

Can’t decide if it sounds interesting enough to spend £4 on, or not.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/07/2019 23:28

Yes, about 4 or 5 years ago @justasking111 but the photos and outfits were a bit Horse and Hound rather than Vogue.

OP posts:
itswinetime · 28/07/2019 23:33

Kate was on the cover in 2016! And in fairness her future role prohibits her from doing anything even vaguely political which Meghan's could be seen as, all her trailblazers of change have a political viewpoint in some way. Although I don't think that's her motivation as much as highlighting important issues!

but obviously some will be getting their knives sharpened before they buy it!

Absolutely Queen but I think those knifes are sharp whatever she does!

Labrodite · 28/07/2019 23:35

they should be surrounded by experienced people who know better

Agreed, but their PR Director is Hillary Clinton’s former Campaign Advisor who you’d think would know what she’s doing! Perhaps they need someone with experience of working with royals/the UK? Charles and Camilla must’ve had good PR people to change the public perception of Camilla/their relationship, although I realise that was a gradual shift.

justasking111 · 28/07/2019 23:38

Just looked at the cover oops Jane Fonda still upsets a lot of people because of her past Hanoi Jane press coverage. The others I do not really know apart from the NZ connection. I agree with Queen there will be some knife sharpening, those women will have their pasts dissected looking for dirt and may rue the day they allowed themselves to be put on the cover. They will be collateral damage.

thisenglishlife · 28/07/2019 23:50

I think it's great Greta in on the cover, although political, better than some young no substance starlet for me.

trixiebelden77 · 29/07/2019 01:41

I was a bit disappointed by some of the choices. Lots of actresses and models.

I was expecting something a bit deeper.

It’s Vogue I suppose.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/07/2019 02:26

I guess she had to work within the constraints of it being Vogue. There are several actresses and models but misting them have achieved things outside of those spheres. Christy Turlington, for example, has gone from 90s supermodel to running a charity set up to tackle maternal mortality.

queenofarles · 29/07/2019 09:02

but their PR Director is Hillary Clinton’s former Campaign Advisor who you’d think would know what she’s doing! Hillary’s campaign was a complete disaster,
Meanwhile the Brexit guy managing the Cambridges is doing an excellent job,

The Sussexes need to find a better strategy, they can’t just keep denying their knowledge every time something backfires, I simply don’t believe they are not involved , just like the Wimbledon thing.
Of course I don’t blame the Sussexes for setting out some boundaries with their neighbours, as this sort of thing must happen all the time and can get very tiring at times.
