I've lost count of how many threads we've had! Previous thread.

Let's keep the gossip lighthearted and, as always, stick to critiquing the clothes rather than being overly critical about the women wearing them.

Dobby yes the train had their initials on it, and I think other additions to represent them like anchors and bees (I think she chose bees to go in her coat of arms).

StCharlotte · 24/07/2019 13:53

She looked beautiful, I remember she was heavily criticised for being fat.

Yes she was, although not at the time of the wedding I don't think, but certainly afterwards. Not helped by eternally compared to Diana who was of course so tall and slim.

Of course lessons have been learned and that sort of cruelty would never happen now. Oh wait -

ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2019 13:58

I think Sarah's dress was one of the more successful of the 80s. Poufy sleeves aside, it had a lovely sleek corset and a lovely neckline and she looked cracking in it.

RomaineCalm · 24/07/2019 14:10

I liked Sarah's dress. It was very 'of the time' but she looked so happy and relaxed on her wedding day unlike C&D.

Despite seeing lots of photos I'd never clocked that she wore flowers on the way in and a tiara on the way out!

Wonder what happened to her tiara. I thought Eug would wear it. Wonder if she flogged it

ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2019 14:27

The idea was she walked up the aisle wearing flowers in her hair cos she was raised in the countryside and walked down the aisle with the tiara cos she was a Princess now.

Apparently when they popped behind the screen to sign the register, the hairdresser set upon her in a flurry to pluck the flowers from the tiara as she only had 5 minutes do so, but simultaneously everyone was trying to kiss Sarah congratulations and the hairdresser flying in with her fingers and it was rather chaotic but Sarah saw the funny side.

Blimey that photo's a bit 50 Shades of York @StCharlotte! Their marriage will always be a mystery to us. As someone else said, the Texan millionaire and the toe sucker only came after they'd split up and her biggest sin was getting caught. Given how close they are now it seems odd they divorced in the first place but after the toe sucking photos were published perhaps they weren't given a choice. Major Ron was friends with HM and A&F have known each other since they were kids, so maybe they really are just the best of friends. Or, if Eugenie is wishing them a happy anniversary, then maybe she knows something we don't!

My memory may not be correct, but I’m sure she was criticised before her wedding for being plump.

I can remember watching a programme on the couple before the wedding. She said something to the camera or each other about finding a good chippy. Which was unfortunate given the weight comments.

I like her, she looks like tremendous fun. Her daughters clearly have a wonderful bond with both parents. I’m wondering what the happy anniversary message is all about. Interesting.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 24/07/2019 15:01

There are always rumours that they’ll get back together but who knows maybe they never properly split up!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/07/2019 15:05

They seem a very happy family unit whatever the situation is.

ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2019 15:08

She wore her wedding and engagement rings for years after the divorce.

Actually she still may!

JudgeRindersMinder · 24/07/2019 15:13

My mum made my wedding dress in 1991, and it was only a couple of years later we realised it was the copy of Fergie’s dress. I still have the dress, but not the husband

AppleKatie · 24/07/2019 15:26

That article makes it sound like they divorced to give her the freedom to live her own life and work.

Seems as though she wasn’t enjoying the pressure of being a lonely royal wife with him away so much and wanted to do her own thing. In those circumstances the divorce seems more of a kindness from him rather than either of them not actually being in love.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/07/2019 15:47

Great interview @StCharlotte
I’m posting the photos as she looks stunning

I didn’t realise Andrew was sent away to sea when Beatrice was 10 days old. I think Sarah must have been incredibly lonely ☹️

She was set up by Diana because Diana suggested let’s both leave our husbands at the same time. (In 1992) But Diana didn’t; she just used trusting Sarah as a guinea pig, to see the press’s reaction.

I think people are finally seeing her for who she is (a slightly daft, enthusiastic and kind person).
I have no idea about the Andrew thing. I am convinced he is gay and it suited him to stay in the Navy and he owes Sarah because she took the heat for their divorce.

However; their divorced family unit and the women Beatrice and Eugenie have grown into show the measure of Sarah as a mother and a person.

She's made mistakes (who hasn't?) but as I've said before, I think she's essentially a very kind and warm-hearted woman. She was interviewed recently with the parents of the girl who died after eating a Pret sarnie and you could tell she was 100% genuine and cared about them, and vice versa.

Stravapalava · 24/07/2019 17:01

I've always liked her. She seemed a bit batty and down to earth like me, not someone suited to the Royal Family. I agree she (and Andrew!) have done a wonderful job as far as I can see with their daughters. They seem like a really close family unit.

Stravapalava · 24/07/2019 17:04

My brother used to get her confused with Spuggie from Byker Grove...!

I think the age of social media has done Fergie a huge favour as people can see what she's really like, as opposed to the rubbish that was written about her. I'm not sure it would've served Diana as well.

I'm convinced Diana would've hated Kate for taking William away from her but would've made a favourite out of Meghan just to prove a point! I could imagine then bonding over fashion or something woo!!

Couldn’t agree more @QueenOfTheAndals.

Spot on. Sadly.

AppleKatie · 24/07/2019 20:08

No growing old gracefully like the others then? Do you think she would have sustained the drama over the decades?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/07/2019 20:26

Diana would have loved social media.
She was one of the front runners o& the whole Celebrity culture we have now. Before the UK was better known for its stiff upper lip. Now we’re all huggers and sharing our innermost thoughts.
I see her more as an Instagram rather than Twitter type.
However the tide was turning against her; literally in the months before her death. Some bitch journo was talking about her “marmalade hair” as her blonde colour was a bit off.

Paradyning · 24/07/2019 20:33

HM looking resplendent in green. Harsh black accessories though. Less said about the other fella the better.
