I watched a “Conspiracy” TV programme recently about the Royal Family. There were a couple of conspiracy theories I hadn’t heard of before. One was that ex-King Edward was sent off to inspect the troops in France in the early days of WWII, really just to boost morale. But allegedly he sent a copy of his report to the Germans, which enabled Hitler to see where the weak points were and allowed the Germans to overwhelm France so quickly.
Another was about Prince George, Duke of Kent, who died when his plane crashed in Scotland. Apparently, Rudolf Hess had been hidden in a mansion house next to a lake, not far from where the plane actually crashed. The plane apparently was capable of doing a water landing on and take off from the lake, and the plan was to fly both Prince George and Hess to Sweden (along with large amounts of Swedish banknotes) to broker a peace between Britain and Germany. Hess, naturally, was the unnamed extra person on the plane. There was, of course, the little problem of Hess actually being tried at Nuremberg, but supposedly that was a body double.
Inevitably, there was mention of Diana. But the plot wasn’t to kill her, but to injure her sufficiently that she’d have to return to Britain and recover under the supervision of the RF, a kind of damage limitation and to bring her to heel. Henri Paul was in the pay of MI6, and the “accident” was arranged by special forces.
There was one thing that I can well imagine was true, and it’s the reason why royal wills are never made public. I can’t remember which king or prince it was, but one left copious quantities of jewellery to his mistress, which was so scandalous that royal wills have been sealed ever since. I expect there are some here who will know which king/prince that was.
