The dress of the summer, apparently. It’s a no from me, I’m afraid.Confused

Haha that is where we differ! I like it, but seeing how crazy popular it is means I won't buy it myself.

Floisme · 14/07/2019 13:34

Thanks Grabby, I'd assumed from other posts that it was polyester.

Charlottejbt · 14/07/2019 13:46

It looks nice on @Miseryisabutterfly, confirming my suspicion that one has to be young and thin to wear it.

I think, at 42, I'm at that crappy in-between stage where you don't really "get" current fashion but aren't ready to buy granny clothes from M&Co either. :(

PuppyMonkey · 14/07/2019 13:50

Granny clothes from MandCo are probably a lot nicer than this dress TBF.

I have it, I wear it with gold Nikes. My partner absolutely loathes it, to be fair - he says it looks like a nightie. I have genuinely never seen another person here wearing it. I think that Instagram account is really unkind other than where people have tagged it in, the “candid” photos are not nice.

BusterGonad · 14/07/2019 14:07

@Judystilldreamsofhorses it's funny how men don't like floaty dresses, I have a few H&M shirt dresses that are shapeless and are good over bikinis etc and my husband hates them, to be fair I have big boobs so they just hang and give me zero shape!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/07/2019 14:26

buster I am small boobed/waist, but hippy, so this dress is the complete opposite of what I usually wear - tucked in, slim tops, fuller bottoms. I think it is definitely not a “sexy” dress in that it is wafty and shapeless, which is unappealing to men because there is no defined figure in it. (I generalise here, and realise women dress for themselves, don’t want to look sexy.) Honestly, it is probably not the most flattering thing I own, but I like it, and like wearing something that is different to my usual style. Yesterday I wore a denim jumpsuit, much more flattering on my shape, and got constant comments about fixing the car. I love my DP, but fashion isn’t his specialist subject.

slipperyeel · 14/07/2019 14:36

I’m 5ft2 size 12 and I get loads of compliments when I wear it. It’s incredibly comfortable too.

happytobemrsg · 14/07/2019 14:40

I’ve seen a few people wear it (C.London). The nicest one was wearing it with a black belt at the waist, fun layered necklaces from Missoma ( I know because I frequently stalk the website 😂) & black flat sandals. Looked really effortless

Iovestruck · 14/07/2019 14:40

Is it true to size or do people size down? Looks big on the model..

happytobemrsg · 14/07/2019 14:41

Do you think it’ll transition to autumn/winter or is it a summer one hit wonder? I wouldn’t mind getting one but I can’t wear it right now (33w pregnant)

BusterGonad · 14/07/2019 15:07

Judystilldreamsofhorses I have a denim jumpsuit too, I've not worn it yet as I know my husband will hate it so I'm saving it for a girls night out as I know they'd appreciate it!

wafflyversatile · 14/07/2019 15:13

I have seen 4 people wearing it this week. I didnt recognise it from the link, only from butterfly's photo.

growlingbear · 14/07/2019 15:13

It’s too big on her for a start.
Yes, exactly. What is this fashion for outsize clothes at the moment? I am size 14 but have to scale down to size six to get a shirt that doesn't look like I'm hiding the whole family under it. Yesterday I tried on what should have been a lovely Japanese print draped dress, chose the size small and it still looked like it needed guy ropes.

LizziesTwin · 14/07/2019 15:18

I’ve seen it on lots of people (4 one day!) and think it generally looks good. If I’m out and about in London I usually see it at least once a day. It’s a bit like the blue & white Zara coat from a couple of summers ago, worn everywhere by masses of people almost all looking stylish.

chasegirl · 14/07/2019 15:33

Am 5 ft 1 and under 8.5 stone. It looks like it would drown me

wafflyversatile · 14/07/2019 15:40

It definitely looks better in real life. When I first saw it I mostly thought she must feel nice and cool, unlike me at the time.

happytobemrsg · 14/07/2019 16:04

Would love to know if you have to size down!

Paddingtonthebear · 14/07/2019 16:09

I didn’t know it was a sell out dress. My husband had seen it in the newspapers and pointed it out the other day when a woman (late twenties maybe early thirties at a push ) walked across the road in front of us wearing the dress and Veja trainers and pushing a buggy. I could tell she was a bit of a fashionista but the dress really did nothing for her, so high necked and shapeless. I don’t really get it.

MinesaPinot · 14/07/2019 16:26

I was in the West End/Covent Garden yesterday and I saw at least 4 people wearing it, all varying heights/shapes. I thought it looked lovely and cool to be honest. One girl had styled it wearing it back to front, so the neckline was open, with a wide black belt and back espadrilles. It looked very stylish I thought.

ilovecherries · 14/07/2019 16:37

I bought it before it was famous and I love it. I’m not young. Size 12 hourglass and bald as a baby’s bum. I wear it with a belt, layered necklaces, trainers and a denim jacket. Every time I wear it someone compliments me - never occurred to me they were being anything but genuine. But I find one of the joys of ageing is that every day I seem to care a little less about other people’s opinion of me.

happytobemrsg · 14/07/2019 16:39

@ilovecherries is also wear it belted. Would you say you need to size down from your normal dress size?

ilovecherries · 14/07/2019 16:42

happy, mine is a medium (size 12, 5’7). That was the size the online calculator suggested and I would say it’s accurate.

RockinHippy · 14/07/2019 16:43

Ugly AF 🤢

costacoffeecup · 14/07/2019 16:43

Never seen this dress before reading this thread today and now I've seen someone wearing it in town and just seen it on bloody Wimbledon! So weird how that happens.
