Royal style & gossip: What a smashing, positively dashing spectacle - the Ascot opening day

Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

Why does HMQaways wear black shoes? Because she can.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/06/2019 23:00

Yes she was talking about that on this morning too.
Sarah used to be a smoker and has had at least one face lift, but they wear off a bit.

I thought there was something wrong with Sarah F on the news tonight. She was hardly making sense.

BertrandRussell · 25/06/2019 23:24

“Why does HMQaways wear black shoes? Because she can.”

True. But she could also have handmade shoes perfectly matching her clothes and throw them away after one wear. And that’s what I want my Queen to do.....

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/06/2019 05:27

Datah on Clip from ITV news

I think the segment on the news was filmed just after This Morning.
The lighting is much worse and also she is shot from the other side, so doesn’t benefit from the face flattering fringe.

The more I see of Sarah in recent years, the more I warm to her. She is a very genuine person. (Although she has shown very bad lapses of judgment in the past)

Rhubarbisevil · 26/06/2019 06:40

Well, the real Queen wants to wear black shoes. And as she’s THE Queen, she does.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/06/2019 06:40

I thought she was fine too, @CurlyWurlyTwirly. She's a bit of a scatterbrain and her conversation goes all over the place but she's always been like that. I think she's quite an uncomplicated soul if I can put it that way. Hasn't always made the best choices but nothing compared to others in her position who seemed to be forgiven for less.

She looks her age, which is not a crime. I agree with Bert, terrible skirt length.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/06/2019 06:48

Also agree with Bert that HM could have handmade shoes in any colour she wanted. Apparently she has someone break her shoes in for her. They at least might appreciate a change! The black ones look like old favourites though.

The QM used to wear colour matched shoes with blocky heels.

I noticed on one recent photo of the Queen seated (can't find it now) that she had what looked like ulcer scarring on her shin visible through her tights. She so rarely shows any sign of ill health that it's a shock to be reminded she is an elderly lady prone to things that elderly people get.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/06/2019 07:53

Mini-Max is 14 today. She has the most gorgeous coloured hair, a really lovely deep shade of red.

“Well, the real Queen wants to wear black shoes. And as she’s THE Queen, she does.”

Grin But as she is there at least in part for my entertainment, I want her in lovely toning shoes. She got my memo about hats and and being dripping with jewels at state occasions but is steadfastly ignoring my instructions about shoes......

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/06/2019 08:03

Bless Fergie, she has her faults but she seems very kind and genuine.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 26/06/2019 08:07

SF always got a rough deal. She wasn’t as pretty (in journo’s view) or photogenic as Diana. If people think MM gets a rough deal they’ve really no idea! It was IMO much harsher then.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/06/2019 08:13

I think the difference is that the internet wasn't around back then. I can remember the press being harsh on Fergie but I've never seen the likes of the "Megxiteers" before! Social media really can bring out the worst in people.

Is it Wimbledon this week and next?
Maybe we will see Meghan if Serena Williams is playing.
Kate usually makes an appearance.

Private schools must be breaking up soon.
Apart from Archie’s christening, I guess there won’t be many more sightings as they all head off to Scotland etc...

BertrandRussell · 26/06/2019 08:29

“Is it Wimbledon this week and next?
Maybe we will see Meghan”

Depends whether she wants to be pilloried for leaving her tiny baby to see her celebrity friends, or for hiding herself away and being work shy, or for refusing to go to the same event as the DoC. Tough call!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/06/2019 08:30

The press were absolutely vicious about SF. It's a cakewalk for MM by comparison. The difference is social media, but even then, for every critical comment - some of which I agree are downright foul - there are a dozen fawning gushing "we 💕 Meghan" fans. SF didn't have that. Nor indeed any mechanism to manipulate her image.

I do think that with modern cameras we get a much closer and more intrusive view. Presumably that's what Botox is for.

BigGreenOlives · 26/06/2019 08:35

Wimbledon starts on Monday. This week is Eastbourne, the Hurlingham & Roehampton for warming up on grass.

RomaineCalm · 26/06/2019 08:56

I hope we see MM and Kate at Wimbledon.

Maybe MM will break with tradition and bring Archie with her... 'AIBU to bring my baby to Wimbledon. I'll be in the nice seats and I don't think he'll be any trouble'.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 26/06/2019 09:07

I would love for Kate & Meghan to turn up together, don’t think it will happen as I think Meghan is still on maternity leave but one can hope!

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/06/2019 09:19

Kate went last year when she was on maternity leave but she's the patron now. She might've attended when on mat leave with Charlotte too. Don't think she was the patron then?

The AELTC must be counting the days til the DoK retires and Kate can present the trophies!

Do you ever have anything positive to say on the threads you grace with your presence? Or is it me you particularly single out for your constantly negative comments? These threads used to be so nice until you appeared on them. Could you at least feign politeness or just pop over to aibu?

BlingLoving · 26/06/2019 10:23

@curly - I thought Bertrand's comment was funny, not a dig at anyone. She was making the point that meghan will be attacked whatever she does or doesn't do. I'm not sure that's a negative comment but rather a wry acceptance that Meghan is being abused by the press and social media?

Talking of which, I was a bit floored on twitter today. Apparently no one knows where Kate's dress from yesterday came from. And KP won't say. So Richard Palmer tweeted one of his trademark tweets where he tries to appear all reasonable but comes across as a complete entitled prat in which he says that while it's understandable that DOC doesn't want to be all about clothes, if KP keeps insisting on not telling it will end "badly". Which had me rolling my eyes. Then one of those Meghan fan twitter accounts came on to say that the clothes are all important because she's so pointless otherwise.

Why? Why do people feel the need to be so judgemental all the time. Do they not realise we don't actually OWN this woman?

BlingLoving · 26/06/2019 10:25

I can't wait to see kate at Wimbledon. Some of her best looks. And she always seems to get her hair cut a bit shorter around this time which I think looks great.

Meghan could attend wimbledon in her personal capacity. Just because she's on maternity leave doesn't mean she's not allowed to leave the house or the baby at any time. Kate loves tennis, always has, so attends wimbledon because it's something she's always done. Meghan has an extremely good friend who is one of the players, so if she chooses to go along to support her, that seems perfectly reasonable to me.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/06/2019 10:34

I don't think @BertrandRussell was having a dig at anyone, just pointing out the inevitable headlines in the tabloids.

Good point @BlingLoving, when I was on maternity leave I wasn't at work but it didn't mean that I stayed in the house all the time - I went out and saw friends and did stuff, sometimes even without baby, shock horror!

Kate Wimbledon style retrospective, although her 2019 looks aren't there. I was lukewarm on the tennis ball dress from last year, but really liked the yellow D&G. Thought Meghan looked great in her stripey shirt too. And Kate gives great sportsface.
