Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

Here's a Friday evening treat for all of you - the 50 greatest gowns ever worn by a royal. Enjoy!

Are you ok @mathanxiety
These threads move faster than Andy Murray at Wimbledon!

I do like what I see of Fergie. I don't believe she has a malicious bone in her body. Her enthusiasm & boundless jolly hockey sticks energy is her greatest strength but also her biggest weakness. If Fergie does officially re-enter the RF then she needs a PA who is cross between Mary Poppins & Supernanny Jo Frost to help her & keep her from going a bit mad. Fergie then could be a national treasure & I can't believe she is 60 this year! It only seems like yesterday she was 26, bit like Madonna suddenly they are years older!
I still can't get my head around Kylie being 51, as she was only 19/20 when she released 'Locomotion', (which I bought at the time.)

Mrsmadevans · 21/06/2019 21:51

Drool thank you Queen

I bet PM's 1950s dresses were just exquisite though, shame we can't see them in colour.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/06/2019 22:01

I think the key to people's tolerance of Fergie is small doses. She seems like good fun but could possibly be exhausting to be around all the time! But for all her faults, I think she's basically a kind and warm-hearted woman and she's raised two daughters who seem like nice young women.

Pic 14 of Anne, such a pretty dress.

AppleKatie · 21/06/2019 22:07

Some of those dresses in the link are beautiful!

Some are very meh though. I wonder how they decided which were the greatest? Reads a little more like ‘50 photos of the royals in fancy dresses that we can find in ten minites’

GlamGiraffe · 21/06/2019 22:23

Do you think fergie's clothes are just a reflection of her personality? Just barking mad? I was somewhat stunned when I saw the pics in the paper tonight! The colour combinations...i can get either mustard and purple or mustard and green, but all of them together?? Do you think she just grabs the first thing she lays her hands on whilst dancing around the room to some wild tunes? I can really almost imagine it😂.
Made me laugh that the Dm had an article on how yo get the look.
HM looked really nice in that shade of pink. I think she's genuinely having a good time. Do you think the window she's behind is bulletproof?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/06/2019 22:29

The Foundation as a joint concept was doing just fine in 2017, the Trustees Annual Report was full of forward plans, there was no talk of a split then.

I think Harry's involvement in the Foundation was intended to give him a purposeful role, but he was always going to be subordinate to W&K. No one expected him to bring a wife into the picture, let alone one with strongly held views of her own.

It's a logical split, but it's acrimonious because of the personalities involved.

My sympathies are with the Foundation's employees and beneficiaries who will be wondering where they stand while all this is going on.

UrsulaPandress · 21/06/2019 22:34

Harry was playing third wheel. No surprise he wanted out.

GlamGiraffe · 21/06/2019 22:34

The dior dress (1) is in the V&A at the moment. It actually is much nicer in the pics than real life i thought.
I thought PA looked lovely in the white floral dress with the ruffles. The colour really suited her.
Is it me of for Sophie's boobs look a bit gigantic in the bright pink number??🤔
like Diana in the long electric blue but not really very keen on her clothes overall looking back-anyone else think the same?
Thanks for the pics!

Clankboing · 21/06/2019 22:39

The Daily Mail article that shows years of Sarah F at Ascot bowing to the Queen - Beatrice's face is a picture. Her expression is such a mix! She obviously loves her mother, thinks she is daft, admires her, can't believe how mischievous her mother is being and has that 'typical mother!' look. I agree with the pp about SF sending up the royal family!

Something I realised about Beatrice: I don't think I've ever heard her speak.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 21/06/2019 22:46

Diana's clothes are very much of their time, which wasn't a particularly good one in fashion terms. She made some frightful garments look great because she was tall, slim and knew how to carry herself. It wasn't a great time for ladies built like SF. Too many frills and furbelows.

Notmyrealname855 · 21/06/2019 22:46

Love the info about NZ Smile

Also think Fergie is a sort of cousin to Max, very animated and vibrant... but maybe best in smaller doses :) she’s done very well to keep her personality in the dullness that is the royal family!

Clankboing · 21/06/2019 22:51

I've just looked on YouTube. Beatrice did the Great Gatsby speech at Eugenie's wedding of course. Bless her, she sounds so young and sweet.

The wedding of Andrew Ferguson & Florence Hill have only just found this, forgive me if already posted , it is a lovely example of a country wedding , l love the wedding dress too.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/06/2019 22:56

Diana's 80s outfits have not aged well but she looked her best in the years after she split from Charles.

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 21/06/2019 22:58

She's actually 30 @Clankboing! But both York girls come across as younger than their ages.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/06/2019 23:00

Fergie is ( and probably always has been) mad as a box of frogs.
Her outfit is a sight, ( purple shoes!) although her hat.
She’s not in the Maxima league; more like an enthusiastic, slightly daft red setter!

Mrsmadevans · 21/06/2019 23:02

I can't help but like her though .

BertrandRussell · 21/06/2019 23:03

I don’t remember Diana showing quite so much bosom- although I do remember a lot of those dresses. I suppose it was more the norm in those days.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 21/06/2019 23:09

Do you remember the blouse that Diana wore on the day of her engagement to Charles?
White with blue swallows not sure if you can see them in the photo.
My cousin & I (we were 8 & 9 at the time) were really chuffed as we both had a white skirt with blue swallows on at the time.
Think I've still got said skirt somewhere in the loft.
