If you could have ONE eyeshadow palette, what would it be?

I’ve been working on downsizing my makeup collection for years now and am quite content with where it’s at now. I have one makeup bag and then an acrylic box with back ups which I’m working my way through.

The one thing I just can’t settle on is an eyeshadow palette, I’ve tried hundreds over the years and have bought, sold, traded and passed on most of them. I’m left with a few quads/palettes just now which are lovely but I’m just not wowed or inspired by them.

I’d love a palette that I could use for every day, work, nights outs, cinema trips, lunch days etc. A one size fits all type thing.

Just now I have:
Urban Decay born to run (which I thought would be perfect but I think it has TOO much choice)
Charlotte Tilbury dolce vita
Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk
A custom Inglot quad
A MAC duo with All That Glitters and Sable

What palette would you have if you could have only one?

I have urban decay naked basics which is 6 colours. That’s all I have, I’m not particularly into make up and it does the job.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 18/06/2019 14:11

@Chewbacca I blame you for my unbridled spending. That Dior cool neutral palette is PERFECT for me so naturally I had to have it. 😂

Frequency · 18/06/2019 14:13

I was just going to link to an Urban Decay Naked basics palette

www.urbandecay.co.uk/en_GB/make-up-palettes/naked2-basics/283.html#start=8&cgid=makeup-palettes

If all you want is a few shades you can safely mix up to create night/day looks that's what you want. It has a decent mix of light and dark neutral shades. If it's that you're intimidated by make-up but would like to learn more I would experiment with Make-up Revolution by Superdrug. It's cheap and decent and that way you get to play with colour and learn what works for you without spending a fortune. YouTube has great tutorials. Look at NikkiTutorials, RawBeautyChristie, Jeffree Star, That90sLoveChild and Stephanie Lange or just search how to do pink eyeshadow look or whatever you want to try.

@Frequency I swatched the new nudes recently. Holy crap, it's good

Frequency · 18/06/2019 14:23

I'm stuck now @YesQueen.

I was gonna get the Blue Blood palette this month when I got paid. It's finally back in stock but now I also need the Huda Beauty one and I can only afford one Sad We might just have to not eat this month...

Chewbecca · 18/06/2019 14:28

mrswidge there are some nice videos around of people using the Dior.

FilledSoda · 18/06/2019 14:42

Has anyone tried the Tom Ford quads ?
I love to know if they are worth the money .

whitershadeofpale · 18/06/2019 15:02

I'll update you all when the new nudes comes. Personally @Frequency I think it's likely to get more use than Blue Blood.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 18/06/2019 15:55

@YesQueen ooh lovely collection! I love hitting pan!!

@Frequency thanks for the YouTube recommendations, ive been subbed to them all (apart from JS and 90’s) for years. I’m confident with makeup to an extent and have spent far too much money over the years on eyeshadow palettes specifically Grin. I’ve just changed how I buy and use things now and would like one solitary palette to use. It’s not working though, since I started the thread I’d bought the Naked 2 (for the second time), two NARS singles and am seriously struggling NOT to buy the ABH soft glam and the Dior neutrals, both so beautiful! I may end up back at square one with my 6 Ikea Alex drawers of makeup LOL

Also, depending on which sites you buy from you can use PayPal’s pay after delivery option. Lethal!!

Actually I tell a lie, I did hit the pan on my first Benefit eyeshadow many years ago, that was when I didn't really have spare cash so it was a real treat to own, I'm not loaded now but I can certainly afford nice makeup every now and again.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 18/06/2019 17:35

The only eyeshadow I’ve ever hit pan on and repurchased is MAC all that glitters.

And a purple from a quad I had about I was about 14 and only ever used that one colour Grin

YesQueen · 18/06/2019 17:44

I've actually hit pan on a blush today, that's unusual for me! Will definitely be a repurchase

Quintella · 18/06/2019 17:47

I've used every speck of Nars Deep Throat blush about four times. That's my most re-purchased product.

WeCameToDance · 18/06/2019 17:59

I have only ever hit pan on benefit blushers. Sugarbomb when I was a teenager and that was the only benefit product I could afford and therefore wore it to death and Hervana blush.
This thread inspired me to go through and organise all my make up. Is it just me or does anybody else just like getting it out to look at it all? I may need to get out more Blush
DefinatelyAWeeGobshite please let me know what your Nars eyeshadows are like. I've added a palette to basket about 4 times today before thinking I'll return to it later.
Frequency I will have a look at Jefree Star's tutorials and end up down the rabbit hole that is Youtube. Dh is close to going mad from me talking about eyeshadow. He will be relieved.

optimisticpessimist01 · 18/06/2019 18:18

ABH Soft Glam

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 18/06/2019 19:24

Yes to Benefit blushers! I’ve used up dandelion twice, I need to buy that again actually.

My other most repurchased product was Benefit they’re real but I don’t have one just now as I’ve got 5 or 6 mascaras to get through. Also went through 3 or 4 BareMinerals complexion rescue.

I made a list in my bullet journal of all the product headers and at the end of the year I’ll write down all my favourites.

I’m pretty much at my makeup collection goal but would like to have core products I buy all the time.

Harebel · 18/06/2019 21:57

Urban decay 2 basics mini is my most flattering one if I only had one to keep.

Otherwise ABH Soft Glam.

serenoa · 18/06/2019 22:39

Nars eyeshadows: I've been wearing them on and off for many years. I highly recommend them for blendability and stickability, they're worth the money… as much as any of this stuff is. What am I saying? I ordered that luscious Marc Jacobs pinks palette from Harvey Nichols yesterday and it arrived today, standard delivery. Too late for me today, DPD delivered it at 4.30pm. Tomorrow! I need it, I can see the bottom of several of the pans in the YSL palette but YSL won't admit that it's been discontinued, it's just marked 'Out of stock' on their website.

On my way to the Marc Jacobs eyeshadows on Harvey Nichols' website I spotted the Tom Ford palettes...mmmmmmm… I need to start doing the lottery. Be gone this foolishness!

I can see I'm a novice at this, now I have all these YouTube videos to watch. Is there a cure for this?

BusterGonad · 19/06/2019 02:28

I've hit the pan on 2 blushers, Mac Pink Swoon and Benefit Dallas. I always use up all my mascara as that's a boring thing to replace but lipsticks and eyeshadows are constantly repurchased with joy!
@WeCameToDance I always sort my makeup out, I just love to look at it and reorganize it.

WeCameToDance · 19/06/2019 08:17

Oh bloody hell! I am now considering the Naked Cherry palette. I didn't like it when it came out but after reconsideration I think I need it. I have green/hazel eyes and purple colours always seem to make them pop urgh hate that expression.

WeCameToDance · 19/06/2019 08:18

This thread is not good for my bank balance Confused

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 19/06/2019 08:48

So many recommendations for soft glam, I may need to take the plunge! Ooh @serenoa please let me know how the Marc Jacobs palette goes, I’ve looked at them for the longest time but never seen one to even swatch it. I like the look of Steeletto and Glambition (I think that’s it).

The naked cherry is beautiful, I had that and gave it to my sisters girlfriend as it suited her way more than me, I just look like I’ve got pink eye.

I’ve never seen the Tom Ford ones, off for a look now...

@Definately

I'll do my best! It won't be today, though. Last night I dozed off on the sofa; by the time I woke up it was getting light, you know how it is. It looks like a good replacement for the YSL.

Briefly, 710 Provocouture, from left to right, with colour names:

Say It: A very pale pearlised pink, a good highlighter, would probably work on top of cheekbones as well as eyes.

With Style: A matt version of Say It.

Otherwise: A matt browny-pink that's a common colour now, I have a colour very close in palettes from MAC, Illamasqua and Bobbi Brown. It's very close to MAC's Hauk but more strongly pigmented.

You Might: A pearlised, slightly more pinky-coppery version of/partner to Otherwise.

As Well: This is interesting, it's a very dark black-brown with a light sprinkling of very fine gold glitter. The glitter isn't obtrusive.

Just Stay: I love this one! It's a pearlised crushed raspberry.

In Bed: An in-your-face rich mid-toned strong pink. Gorgeous Smile.

I love this palette, I'll wear all of them except maybe the As Well. They're very well pigmented, like the YSL palettes I have, and what I'd expect at this price. The pearlised effect is quite delicate and very wearable for day. The shadows are very finely milled, it's quite noticeable compared with the MAC ones I have; swatching them on my arm they do blend well, and I can actually build them up if I want. Claims for 'buildability' is something I've become a tad sceptical about. It's a very nice palette case, too, good quality, with a full width mirror and a push-button to open it. I do like that push-button, I regularly have wrestling matches with MAC palettes to get them open.

More when I've worn it for a while.

Disclaimer: I have no connection with any Marc Jacobs company.

serenoa · 19/06/2019 11:02

Edit:

The colour 'In Bed' is matt, I missed that bit. Sorry.
