If you could have ONE eyeshadow palette, what would it be?

I’ve been working on downsizing my makeup collection for years now and am quite content with where it’s at now. I have one makeup bag and then an acrylic box with back ups which I’m working my way through.

The one thing I just can’t settle on is an eyeshadow palette, I’ve tried hundreds over the years and have bought, sold, traded and passed on most of them. I’m left with a few quads/palettes just now which are lovely but I’m just not wowed or inspired by them.

I’d love a palette that I could use for every day, work, nights outs, cinema trips, lunch days etc. A one size fits all type thing.

Just now I have:
Urban Decay born to run (which I thought would be perfect but I think it has TOO much choice)
Charlotte Tilbury dolce vita
Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk
A custom Inglot quad
A MAC duo with All That Glitters and Sable

What palette would you have if you could have only one?

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite why did you give all your stuff away? It sounds like a stupid thing I'd do then instantly regret it.
I couldn't decide on a favourite as I love all of mine for different reasons.
Chanel Kaska Beige springs to mind, as does a Pupa one but I can't remember the name. I'm currently a bit obsessed with the Revlon Looks Books! Each has a mix of gentle shimmers, satins and matts. One is just Matt but they don't sell it where I'm living!

If you could have ONE eyeshadow palette, what would it be?

I have tried Bobbi brown, Charlotte tilbury, Chanel and all sorts but my current favourite is from H&M. Lovely colours, go on well and don't dry. My Bobbi brown palette was rock hard and unusable after a few months.

@BusterGonad I had a huge amount of makeup. I used to blog years ago so my collection got really out of hand and I had so much that it wasn’t used, I couldn’t get through it all and lots of stuff started to expire. So I kept the stuff I used most often at the time and whittled it all down, got rid of the old stuff and gave the rest to friends and family. I gave my Naked 2 palette away about four or five years ago and have only now, this month, managed to get my makeup collection to a “normal” amount.

I tend to sway mostly towards middle range brand eyeshadows as I’ve never had much luck with more affordable ones from Boots/Superdrug but I’ll have a look at the Revlon and H&M too, anything cheaper is definitely better for the purse. Infact, I used to love Maybelline colour tattoos, I’ll need to see if they still make them!

Not I’ve heard that about the BB palettes going rock hard, how weird.

Ahh the Revlon ones aren’t available here.

This one - 03 Paris.

I think I got the last one on the entire planet. When it's all gone I'll probably have to build my own with MAC but the product quality isn't the same - too many MAC eyeshadows look a bit chalky, especially in these colours.

They have to be in the pink-lilac-purple range; the peachy-copper-chestnut colours look awful on me, my skin has strong pink undertones. I wish I'd discovered that bit about undertones earlier than I did, I'd have saved a lot of money.

BusterGonad · 15/06/2019 09:16

Op take a look at the Revlon colourstay creme eyeshadows, in little glass pots. 90% of them are fantastic. I have about 8 of them! Blush

straighttalker33 · 15/06/2019 09:20

Violet Voss ride or die

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 15/06/2019 09:27

Ooh that YSL one is beautiful! If you like the pink/purple you might like the Buxom dolly’s wild side palette. I know what you mean about discovering undertones, I’m cool /pink toned and cool toned shadows/blushers/lip colours always look better on me but I buy so many warm toned colours as I’m more drawn to those. I’ve wasted SO much money on stuff that makes me look like I’ve been crying for days.

Thank you I’ll definitely check out those, I LOVE cream products.

I'm cool toned on paper but I think I can get away with most colours because I have brown/green eyes and dark brown hair with pale skin and freckles. Well I tend to wear most colours regardless!

KatharinaRosalie · 15/06/2019 13:27

MAC Dusky Rose 9. Most matte colours, so great for daytime. Stay on the entire day, but super easy to blend.

serenoa · 15/06/2019 15:36

I'll be heading into town on Monday to check out those Revlon cream eyeshadows!

Buxom Dolly I've never heard of, something else to check out. I'm supposed to be saving for a coverstitch sewing machine..,

BusterGonad · 15/06/2019 17:37

In the past 3 days I've bought 4 palette!!! Wtf is wrong with me? 2 Maybeline TheCity Mini palettes and 2 Canmake palettes! Thank god they are only about £8 each! Blush

BusterGonad · 15/06/2019 17:37

2 days!!!!

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 15/06/2019 18:30

@BusterGonad Grin I’ve bought the Naked 2 and then today I bought two NARS single eyeshadows as I realised I don’t have any cool toned transition shades, the second one was on offer so fell into my online basket.

I say transition shade, 9 times out of 10 I wear ONE eyeshadow all over the lid so beats me why I need a transition shade.

@serenoa Marc Jacobs also has a beautiful palette you might like

UD relaunched Naked and it looks pretty much the same as the old one.

For me, I’d say Naked 2.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 16/06/2019 09:32

The Naked Reloaded? I didn’t like the look of that but I actually think it’s because of how the shades are laid out, it bothers me that it doesn’t go from light to dark. It looks really similar to the ABH Sultry palette actually.

My Naked 2 has been dispatched so should hopefully be here Monday or Tuesday, so excited to have it again.

My most recent purchase was a Dior Backstage Cool Neutrals palette and I haven’t used anything else since so that would be my choice.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 16/06/2019 12:43

Oh wow Chewbacca that’s beautiful!!!

@DefinatelyAWeeGobshite

Just seen your post! Thank you. I've been out of action over the weekend with a migraine, but off to check it out now. Grin

serenoa · 17/06/2019 13:25

Oh wow! Provocouture 710 - Dusty plum and magenta… you're so right, Definately, I do like it.

The other day I went out with makeup pared down, eyelids only – only two shades of shadow, a very thin line of plum-coloured eyeliner; mascara and eyebrows. The result: awful. The un-made up area of skin between my eyebrows and crease glared out at me because my skin there has no pink to it, it's a pale cream and makes me look like I've put highlighter all over it. Weird. My eyes are quite deep set. I'd thought using a matt beige-ish flesh pink lightly all over that area was a bit OTT but now I'm convinced it's an essential base.

I've tried not using eyeliner but it just doesn't work for me. I use Zoeva's bent eyeliner brush to get a really thin line.

I'm thinking seriously of ordering that Marc Jacobs palette...

Quintella · 17/06/2019 13:35

Cover Shot Eye Palette in Minimalist.

I think Smashbox is really underrated and I love that they give a double helping of the base shades which is always the one to run out first.

I'm a bit meh about Urban Decay.

ememem84 · 17/06/2019 13:38

Urban decay naked.

I have this plus born to run plus the game of thrones one plus a bare minerals nudes a Mac one plus two Harry Potter ones.

I have too much...

FoggyNelson · 17/06/2019 13:41

ABH soft glam is perfect for me, both day and night. If I ever go somewhere with just one hand luggage, that's the palette I carry.
