If you could have ONE eyeshadow palette, what would it be?

I’ve been working on downsizing my makeup collection for years now and am quite content with where it’s at now. I have one makeup bag and then an acrylic box with back ups which I’m working my way through.

The one thing I just can’t settle on is an eyeshadow palette, I’ve tried hundreds over the years and have bought, sold, traded and passed on most of them. I’m left with a few quads/palettes just now which are lovely but I’m just not wowed or inspired by them.

I’d love a palette that I could use for every day, work, nights outs, cinema trips, lunch days etc. A one size fits all type thing.

Just now I have:
Urban Decay born to run (which I thought would be perfect but I think it has TOO much choice)
Charlotte Tilbury dolce vita
Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk
A custom Inglot quad
A MAC duo with All That Glitters and Sable

What palette would you have if you could have only one?

I'm going to put some photos up of my recently purchased palettes (a bit later) they are all drug store, I've got lots of high end but where I'm currently living high end is so pricey, I'm also experimenting with colours so don't want to splash out loads on colours that might not work.

SecretWitch · 17/06/2019 13:53

I only use two eye shadows, UD Half Baked and Easy Baked. I use The Balms Marylouminizer as an eye hilighter.

@serenoa I apologise to your bank in advance Grin

@Quintella oh that looks great, PUNKED looks fab too. I don’t think I’ve ever tried smashbox

@FoggyNelson I’m really really really interested in that one too, I’ve had a tab open on my phone for it for ages now

@BusterGonad yes please to pictures!

@DefinatelyAWeeGobshite

That's o.k! I no longer have one of those strange humanlike creatures that grow hair on their faces and carry their brains in their pants, to argue my choices with me. Grin

The Shiseido palettes are lovely, too. I particularly like Shiseido's brown mascara; it looks very dark but not harsh like black, without showing an obviously brown colour. It doesn't clump, either.

SecretWitch · 17/06/2019 17:40

@BusterGonad..love The Balm! The only product I didn’t get along with was their BB cream.

FoggyNelson · 18/06/2019 05:20

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite is that the cover FX liquid highlighted?

I also have a few Naked palettes (1, 3, and smoky), and the soft glam has a very different texture to them, I feel. It's a lot softer and creamier, which means a lot of powder is created when I swipe with a brush, and it's sometimes wasted; but it also means that you get a wonderful depth of colour, with not much effort!

BusterGonad · 18/06/2019 06:55

Here they are!
Some are really sparkly so I need to get a setting spray!
The photos don't do them justice.

These 2 are my favorites, the Alice and Olivia one is a Asia exclusive and the Canmake one is a Japanese brand and give a lovely subtle sparkle effect which I'm really getting into.

Was coming on to say Urban Decay's Naked (the original) just to find out they've apparently discontinued it. 😱

In fairness, I think I could make pretty much any palette work for me so long as it contains at least two neutral mattes and the quality works out. Today, I'm actually wearing two shades from Huda Beauty's Rose Gold palette - a gift that I definitely wouldn't have bought for myself. I'm looking professional and not at all Instagram-y.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 18/06/2019 07:33

@FoggyNelson yeah it’s the liquid highlighter, I’ve never tried it before so quite looking forward to that, think I’ll try it today. Thanks for that on ABH, I’m so torn about buying the soft glam or not.

@BusterGonad oooh pretty!

@TakenForSlanted I think my issue previously was buying palettes that I could only use one or two shades so the rest just went untouched. Sad about the Naked isn’t it, I so wish I’d bought one when it was discontinued. Thing is there’s got to be some somewhere, I’m sure not every shop sold all their remaining stock, I wonder where they go.

This thread is making me itch for a new palette. I really like the look of the new Nars voyager palettes on Space nk. Only 6 pan which I think might work well for me as too many eyeshadows and I get overwhelmed and spend ages trying to work out what shades to use Grin. I really like the colours in the Urban Decay born to run palette but I get the overwhelmed problem every time I look at the thing.
Anyone tried Nars eyeshadows? Are they any good? I bought a palette quite recently (not Nars) and it was disappointing so don't want to repeat that!

Frequency · 18/06/2019 11:48

Only one eyeshadow palette? What is this Hell you speak of?

If I was forced (and it would be a bloody fight to the death to get me to part with my make-up) it would be Jefree Star Blood Sugar I would fight the hardest for.

I use the pink tones during the day for a light/natural look and the golds and purples for evening looks or a mix of both for a heavier day look.

WeCameToDance · 18/06/2019 12:27

Frequency that Jeffree Star palette intrigues me. I half want to run away from it screaming in terror at the brightness and the other half wants to get stuck in and try every colour at once! Are the colours as bright on as in the pan?

Frequency · 18/06/2019 12:43

They're buildable but do start out quite bright. They're also super blendable so you can blend the darker shades in with the lighter shades. I don't wear wacky/out there make-up and I wear every shade in the pan but I am training to be a make-up artist so have a fairly decent understanding on which shades go with what and how to wear brighter/more intense colours without looking like a clown.

Iirc last time I went out I wore Sweetener as my base shade, Cavity and Root Canal in my crease and Coma and Extraction on my lids (though I did only use a dot of Coma on the outer lid) and the I put Glucose in the inner corner and under the brow. It's the first time I've used Coma. I was feeling daring and just excited to finally have a chance to play with make-up after working 60-70 hours a week for the last few weeks. I was surprised by how wearable it was. Jeffree Star always has tutorials on his YouTube on how to use his palettes.

whitershadeofpale · 18/06/2019 12:51

I'm waitimg for Huda Beauty The New Nude to arrive. I also recently brought UD Heat at duty free, I have naked 2 and CT's Pillow talk and Dolce Vita.

I have a Chanel one but find that you get a lot of fall out.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 18/06/2019 13:03

@WeCameToDance I have some nars shadows sitting in the post office to collect tomorrow, just two singles but I’ll let you know how they are.

I think the JS and Huda palettes are beautiful to look at but there’s so much choice in the palette I wouldn’t know what to do.

No issues here Blush

If you could have ONE eyeshadow palette, what would it be?
BusterGonad · 18/06/2019 13:26

@YesQueen I can't believe you've got the Pan in some! I move on to others so much I don't think I've ever hit the pan on any! Grin

BusterGonad · 18/06/2019 13:28

Hit the pan!

YesQueen · 18/06/2019 13:39

@BusterGonad I know! I've hit pan on a lot of makeup geek shadows, ABH modern renaissance and I've actually been through THREE BlushShock MAC woodwinked

PodgeBod · 18/06/2019 13:47

Tartlette in Bloom is my all time favourite

Frequency · 18/06/2019 13:56

I'm too fickle to hit pan. Atm you can tear my Blood Sugar palette from my cold dead hands but I've just checked out the Huda Beauty New Nudes and I need it in my life. I have no clue how I've managed to get dressed for so long without it. It needs to be mine. All the glitter, all the pink and the sparkle...

I also regularly flit between being obsessed with hair, hair tools, styling products and equipment and make-up, eyeshadow palettes and make-up brushes. My bathroom resembles A Sally's that's just been ransacked by teenagers on pocket money day Grin
