Previous thread

Now that the Orange One has gone, it's almost time for a visit from the Oranje One! Yes, Queen Max will be attending next Monday's Garter ceremony. It'll be a triplicate fashion face-off between her, Letizia and Kate - who will emerge victorious?

I liked the colour of Sophie's outfit and her hat was fun. Kate's outfit looked like a dental nurse costume, and I usually love what she wears. Poor Camilla didn't look well.
Still, at least the event has kept a lot of embroiderers busy! Wink

MotherofPearl · 17/06/2019 16:37

Thanks for posting that clip @itswinetime. Interesting to see them interacting. No real evidence to base this on but for some reason I imagine Max and Camilla getting on well.

BlingLoving · 17/06/2019 16:40

Just saw a clip of them all leaving in carriages. Does anyone else think that sometimes Kate must be sitting in a ridiculous carriage, opposite her husband wearing a ridiculous get up thinking, "WTF?! How did I get myself into this?" while her family watch on live TV laughing hysterically and sending her rude messages to read on their family WhatsApp later? Grin possibly this would just be my family then?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/06/2019 16:45

Nothing earth shattering about the outfits.
Obviously Max’s was the best.
Kate looked like a nurse.
I thought Letizia’s dress was non descript; but I liked her headband with the veil.
Sophie had that 1950s Lady Sarah Chatto vibe; but didn’t seem to pull it off as well a Sarah

alldressedupinblue · 17/06/2019 16:46

The King and Queen of the Netherlands are staying to go on to Ascot tomorrow.

alldressedupinblue · 17/06/2019 16:47

@BlingLoving I was actually thinking that about Maxima (a banker in New York) and Leti, who was the 6 o'clock news presenter in Spain.

Mrsmadevans · 17/06/2019 17:04

Love the way Max looks today but then she seems to get it right all the time 🤗
I think Leti's dress is not the right length and the sleeves are too full. I do like her hat and accessories though .
Kate looks young and fresh, she's glowing , if she didn't suffer so badly with hyperemesis l would suspect that she was expecting again 😄 . I love the coatdress and her hat and accessories 😍
I love Sophie's look but it does make her look a dress size bigger simply because of the style but she suits the colours and looks great 😄😄
HM looks great as always 😁

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/06/2019 17:15

Maxima at the races will be maximum hattage!

Also, I think they are quite wrong. She may not stick around here for long, but she'll be taking Harry with

I can imagine them taking Harry's trust fund millions and moving to New York.

Whydoesitalwaysdothis · 17/06/2019 17:22

I saw Meghan's wedding dress on exhibition today. It is tiny, she must be a size 8. I found the dress really disappointing, it's even plainer in real life than on TV. The veil is beautiful and the tiara absolutely gorgeous. Charlotte's bridesmaid's dress is also very underwhelming. I enjoyed seeing Harry's uniform and George's pageboy outfit.

I just don't understand why she went for such a plain dress and material.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 17/06/2019 17:28

Thank you June, Frugal and everyone else on the Charlene and Albert backstory, I guess 4 billion in the bank, royal status, fame and glamour makes up for his misdemeanours.

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/06/2019 17:31

I think Meghan went for a plain dress as her veil was so intricate. I liked it but then I don't like a lot of fuss and detail.

BertrandRussell · 17/06/2019 17:46

I loved the plainness of Meghan’s dress. So cool and stylish- and lovely in the very ornate surroundings.

Stravapalava · 17/06/2019 18:01

Her dress was a stroke of genius. Because the dress was so plain, you could focus on everything else going on and she really didn't need any adornment. She is so beautiful and she looked like an angel that day. I loved it.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/06/2019 18:12

The trouble with such a plain dress, which I agree was a beautiful design in its simplicity, is that it needed to fit perfectly. And it didn't. She looked lovely on the day anyway because most brides do.

SenecaFalls · 17/06/2019 18:24

I think Meghan's dress fit just as it was supposed to. Body skimming not body-hugging as in the way Givenchy designed for Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy.

BertrandRussell · 17/06/2019 18:27

Funny how people saw that dress differently. I thought it fitted perfectly. Understated and elegant. And the beautiful surrounding, the veil and the tiara to set it off.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/06/2019 18:29

We'll have to disagree then Smile. I thought the bust area was badly fitted, a bit tight if anything. Which wouldn't matter if it hadn't cost a staggering amount of money.

AliasGrape · 17/06/2019 18:43

I liked Kate’s look today, loved Maxima’s.

BertrandRussell · 17/06/2019 18:55

“We'll have to disagree then“
Smile yep. It’s really weird thought how people saw that dress differently. Perfect, too loose and now too tight! Who’d be a dressmaker!

SunshineCake · 17/06/2019 19:09

I like Letizia’s earrings and agree Catherine's skirt should have been a smidgen longer.

beanaseireann · 17/06/2019 19:23

Wax -as in Max and Wax received high praise today in the Irish Times for his kindness.
I thought you'd like to know the background.
As you know Max and Wax were on a state visit to Ireland last week. They agreed to meet an Irish man, who had lost his wife Adrienne Cullen, last New Year's Eve to cancer - she was a victim of medical negligence in the Netherlands. The couple fought hard so it wouldn't happen to others. They had refused to sign a gagging clause.
According to Peter Cluskey, Adrienne's husband, King Willem Alexander was high in his praise of Adrienne and her legacy and said what had happened to her was terrible, when he met him last week.

Normally state visits don't include such a meeting. How lovely was that, that the King took the time, at a reception to include and meet Peter Cluskey.
ThanksThanksThanksto Wax and Max

hopeishere · 17/06/2019 19:54

LetZia's earrings were stunning. As was her hat.

Kate's was ok but I agree it looks a bit big. I like Sophie's. Can't wait for Ascot!!

itswinetime · 17/06/2019 19:56

Max and wax just always look like they are having fun I love that

The pictures from today are so 'light'! I particularly like Kate's hair.
