Previous thread

Now that the Orange One has gone, it's almost time for a visit from the Oranje One! Yes, Queen Max will be attending next Monday's Garter ceremony. It'll be a triplicate fashion face-off between her, Letizia and Kate - who will emerge victorious?

I wonder how the conversation went when the future Queen of Sweden told her father she was marrying her personal trainer

Well allegedly it did not go well. At all.

But then apparently dead old Dad was quite against the very idea of his daughter being Queen when he had a son right there who had an actual penis.

There was a lot more shit in that family than we know about, that's for sure. Poor old Victoria was anorexic for years god love her, and I believe joining Daniels gym was a part of her recovery and he was very kind to her.

ElspethFlashman · 15/06/2019 11:38

I agree Queen, I'm trying to imagine a scenario where my husband would do the same and I can't. He'd have given me a good humoured nudge and nodded towards the front with a twinkle in his eye, then later would have teased me for gassing away so much I was turned in the wrong direction and we'd have had a laugh about it.

I really wouldn't want to live with a scowler.

Notmyrealname855 · 15/06/2019 11:39

Gosh you’d never know that about them - they look like a solid family. Shameful if CPV’s dad didn’t support her as heir, he seems to now at least.

Maybe... maybe Harry was being a knob to her? Every event all these royals do, is an act. They might be more fun, lighthearted, kind, entitled, snappy or more mean than we’d ever guess. We’ll never know probably, but MM did look sad and it sucks that it was in THE most public place :(

SlipperOrchid · 15/06/2019 11:56

Every event all these royals do, is an act

This is the truest and wisest sentence I have ever read on any of the RF threads.

Daisypie · 15/06/2019 11:59

I don't think it was fair that Daniel who was a very solid guy, just not from the nobility, had to wait for years before he could marry Victoria. Sofia, whose past I do find sleazy, was welcomed in easily.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/06/2019 12:05

But then apparently dead old Dad was quite against the very idea of his daughter being Queen when he had a son right there who had an actual penis.

Dear old Dad also had some rather unsavoury habits didn't he? Escorts and sex parties, IIRC? Charles' affair with Camilla is very tame in comparison!

I think my favourite European king is Harald of Norway, who threatened to end the monarchy if he couldn't marry the woman he loved. As far as I know there hasn't been a whiff of scandal about him in the 50 years since.

Yes I will never forget Harald leading the mourning for the teens massacred in Norway. Standing with tears running down his face and so much dignity and humanity.

Notmyrealname855 · 15/06/2019 12:25

Well done for Daniel for marrying into that family then Angry Poor CPV for having to live with the hypocrisy

beanaseireann · 15/06/2019 13:42

I don't know how Queen Silvia stayed with him.
She seems lovely and was, I think, a "commoner" when she married.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/06/2019 13:48

Can't get worked up about the balcony thing. Meghan lost focus for a moment and turned her back on the crowd to chat, Harry reminded her to face forward. She did. He would be aware that it would be noticed (hence the nod towards the Queen) and was telling her for her benefit as much as anyone else.

She's an actress, she's used to taking notes on her performance. Better from her husband than the world's media.

beanaseireann · 15/06/2019 13:53

roisinagusniamh mentioned it ( Harry being cranky on the balcony) first on the last thread. I commented on her comment very soon after, agreeing with her.

Wetdogloveshubert · 15/06/2019 14:07

Sophie spoke at a birthday party in Lebanon as part of her visit. There are a few lovely pictures on instagram. I really like her dress, and her hair looks pretty. The speech includes comments from The Queen, mentioning Philip.

Notmyrealname855 · 15/06/2019 14:42

Didn’t know their was a whole thread on the balcony! A non royal style thread Shock :)

Sophie is a really good steady worker. I couldn’t name anything Edward has done... maybe they did switch roles

AnneEyhtMeyer · 15/06/2019 14:49

Edward's a strange one. Off the top of my head I can only think of him leaving the marines, getting cross with the press at It's A Royal Knockout, trying to have a theatre career with no discernible talent and getting into trouble for his company following William with cameras at university.

I'm sure he's done more but he seems to be a typical talentless child of someone important living off his parents' fame.

ElspethFlashman · 15/06/2019 15:18

Well in fairness to Eddie, he has basically taken over the DoE Awards for the last few years. Cos of course he becomes the DoE after Philip pops his clogs.

So I don't think he does nothing in his spare time, I just think it's DoE meetings that are naturally not going to be in the press. .

And in fairness most of what Sophie does, Edward does. And people say she's such a workhorse, but usually he's right there, cropped out of the photo.

AudacityOfHope · 15/06/2019 15:19

Sophie looks fab in those Insta photos Smile

Twisique · 15/06/2019 15:26

I remember how happy and proud of Sophie he was when she had done that bike ride. I think he look really supportive.

ElspethFlashman · 15/06/2019 15:31

Wasn't it a triathlon? She's done something else since I think but it escapes me. She always strikes me as physically quite strong and healthy.

beanaseireann · 15/06/2019 15:37

There was a thread on the Trooping of the Colour set up last week by QueenoftheAndals , where Harry's cranky look was discussed, along with the lovely outfits.
I think Harry was also telling Jack Brocksbank, Eugenie's dh to turn back too.

Spudlet · 15/06/2019 15:51

Edward came to visit a local attraction near to me recently, sans Sophie. He went around and met some local primary school children. Not hugely headline worthy but it made the local newspaper.

He wore tweed, if anyone is interested Grin. Navy chinos, blue shirt and tie (the paper had a pic on their website). Not a double breasted jacket in sight!

Spudlet · 15/06/2019 15:54

This facial expression really reminded me of Anne - and of HMQ!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/06/2019 15:58

I know someone who was involved in a visit from Edward to a wheelchair sport thing. He was apparently very interested and asked lots of questions. He doesn't get the media coverage but that doesn't mean he isn't working as hard as the more glamorous royals.

queenofarles · 15/06/2019 15:59

Meghan turned to Harry and he told her twice to turn back
There was no interaction with Jack, Harry was talking to someone behind Jack.
I don’t think she is unaware of the national anthem.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/06/2019 16:03

Edward's the image of HMQ!
