Previous thread

What neon shade will HM wear? Will the DoE attend? Will Kate have a new coat dress? Will Meghan make an appearance? And which of us will be able to identify every random Windsor on the balcony?

All will be revealed tomorrow...

I thought she had on a Kate headband but side view it looks like a hat.

If I can go back to the multiple khaki outerwear, I don’t understand everyones bewilderment at owning several jackets. I just don’t see how Kate can suffice with only one, She goes to Norfolk often , probably stay outdoors a lot of the time, she did quite a lot of outdoorsy engagement last few months. Also she mentioned going on half term to the lakes with her children, how can she make do with just the one?

I don’t like skinnes, havent worn any in over two years, but I think they are practical with her boots for muddy fields, last time I was in the country i wore leggings with boots . don’t think they are appropriate for these sort of engagements.

SlipperOrchid · 12/06/2019 15:37

I don't think anybody is questioning having more than one jacket. Its having multiple jackets that are so similar and all in the same colour that people are bewildered by. She buys everything in excess and that is unnecessary and not in keeping with the frugal image she/her fans like to project when comparing unfavourably with Meghan.

SlipperOrchid · 12/06/2019 15:42

I used to love the name Eugenie when I thought it was pronounced Eugzhaynee

I' pronounce Eugene - U Jean - and always thought Eugenie was the same with Ee stuck onto the end - U Jean Ee - ::) Obviously I am not royal :)

Live Max's look today!

AngelaScandal · 12/06/2019 15:45

They’re meeting President Michael D Higgins and First Lady Sabina Higgins in that picture in case anyone wondering

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/06/2019 15:45

Multiple khaki jackets I can understand, if she spends a lot of time outdoors and getting muddy with the kids then she'll need more than one. It's the virtually identical green coats that are only ever wheeled out on St Patrick's Day that are harder to understand!

Wow that pink outfit is blinding! It's not often that Max isn't the most flamboyantly dressed in the room.

slipper but I own several khaki jackets too, and I’m not that outdoorsy neither do I live in the country. But I do need Them all and I don’t feel it’s excessive. I own several striped shirts and they are all similar, several straight leg jeans, I probably own two Burberry trenches ,the only difference is the fit, I don’t even know how many camel cashmere jumpers I own,
It’s normal.

No need to bring in MM into this, we are not talking about her or her wardrobe here,

itswinetime · 12/06/2019 16:04

I don't mind the multiple jacket/boots situation because they are practical adjustments walking round town normal boots light weight jacket. Walking round a farm and into the country side walking boots. Same for the jackets. Changing colour of coat would have had to match the rest of the outfit and then it would all have been about Kate's multiple outfits so I get it.

All the near identical coat dress on a shade of colours I don't get 🤷🏻‍♀️

queenofarles · 12/06/2019 16:05

Queen I’m with you on the St Patrick day coats, I don’t understand them too.

EnidButton · 12/06/2019 16:09

I always assumed the female royals, especially Kate, got given a lot of stuff. Celebs get given heaps as it's good for the brand if they choose to wear them. Is that not allowed in royal circles? I guess it might be frowned on.

AppleKatie · 12/06/2019 16:11

There is the pressure to look immaculate too. I can see why she would take spares of things that go together on engagements. Say she treads in a puddle or gets splashed with mud she needs to change part of the outfit quickly.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/06/2019 16:12

I don't think they're allowed accept gifts from brands.

queenofarles · 12/06/2019 16:17

Not sure about other royals but I think Kate doesn’t accept brands offer. But I’m pretty sure she gets a good discount.

BlingLoving · 12/06/2019 16:25

Yes, I think multiple skinny jeans or jackets that are genuinely wearable day in and day out are fine. And we do see the odd pap shot of her wearing such things, or some of her smarter regular jackets that shows she does wear them more than just for these events.

But yy to the endless dark green coats for St Patricks day or almost identical coat dresses she wears to church and other occasions.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/06/2019 16:25

I don't mind how many coats Kate has. I expect they get recycled somewhere useful. She'd be a great person to work for if you happened to be a size 8/10, 5ft 8 with a 5.5 shoe size!

I don't compare her expenditure with MM and I don't know anyone that does. Her role is far more important so I'd expect different rules to apply anyway.

Wetdogloveshubert · 12/06/2019 16:26

I think we discussed it on an earlier thread; Charles pays for the clothing allowance and they aren't allowed to take freebies.

Prince William met with the Governor General designate of Australia, David Hurley with HM today at Buckingham Palace at an official audience. More learning the ropes! I can't remember seeing Charles doing these things so publicly? Or maybe it was just pre-Twitter. HM's dress is lovely.

I like the way Elena has her hair and her jacket is a lovely colour on her.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/06/2019 16:30

Queen could you tell if HM Claire was a MMetter by the way she parked her divider on the checkout? Diagonal/Vertical or just normal horizontal? Smile

SlipperOrchid · 12/06/2019 16:31

Queen You asked why and I replied. If you don't agree with why people think it is excessive, that is absolutely fine.

To me it is excessive for a variety of reasons. It is a want driven by consumerism. It isn't good practice and I am increasingly aware of how unnecessary it all is. I think it is even more important that people who are in the 'celebrity' world don't endorse consumerism. I realise the irony in that sentence when it comes to the RF.

Another poster pointed out that she needs multiple jackets in case she gets dirty. However she has multiple of the exact same item of clothing as well as multiple similar items of clothing and I know this for certain after she was photographed and filmed doing her garden. I have the MD trousers she wore, and they crease within ten minutes. However Kate's didn't look creased at all. Unless she was whipping them and standing around in her knickers while waiting for them to be ironed, she changed numerous times into identical trousers!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/06/2019 16:33

HM definitely seems to be doing apprenticeships with her grandchildren and their spouses. It can only be a good thing. She had no one to learn the ropes from as she was expected to have much more time.

I can definitely see the advantage of abdication; you have an experienced former monarch to confer with. However the Queen probably wouldn’t be so wise if she hadn’t been on the throne for so long.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/06/2019 16:42

I think it is a social media thing @Wetdogloveshubert. We wouldn't have seen nearly as much of Charles at the same age because there was no web and no Twitter or Instagram!

@TracyBeakerSoYeah It was a check out queue at the post office so no need for a divider! Nor did I hear the words "Did you mean to be so rude" emanate from her mouth so I had no way of finding out if she was a Mumsnetter...
