Previous thread

What neon shade will HM wear? Will the DoE attend? Will Kate have a new coat dress? Will Meghan make an appearance? And which of us will be able to identify every random Windsor on the balcony?

All will be revealed tomorrow...

I also remember all of the constant press coverage of Diana in the States. There was less negative coverage of Fergie than in the UK, I think, but I remember a report that Diana's face on the cover of a magazine always meant higher sales of an issue so she was everywhere all the time it seemed.

RhubarbIsEvil · 07/06/2019 20:57

Evening all!

Wetdogloveshubert · 07/06/2019 21:13

Ooh shiny. Thanks Queen!

My vote is not inspired, but I think there may be more rich colours tomorrow, in light of the forecast. Will we see big headbands, or hats maxipads ?

The Cambridge children will wear William's old clothes Grin

itswinetime · 07/06/2019 21:31

I'm here hoping for a debut in the carriages for Charlotte and George but I will probably have to settle for Louis on the balcony.

GrumbleBumble · 07/06/2019 21:53

IHeartArya it must be over 30 years ago and I would have been in my teens but it has stuck in my mind because I just couldn't believe that anyone would be so brazen about basically bullying someone. He was so proud of himself for being an arsehole!

DevonUkelele · 07/06/2019 22:00

Yes to Cue, thanks @Queen - in my budget (mostly), but perhaps a little corporate for what I am after. Unfortunately I don't have a Roland Mouret budget! The hunt goes on.

(Thank you also for the new thread. I love Trooping weekend!)

Daisypie · 07/06/2019 22:23

Fergie was attacked for her weight which was terrible. My reservations about her are more from the out of control spending, grabbiness of freebies and need to pour it all out on Oprah for redemption. The footage where she offers an introduction to Andrew for $$is truly awful.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/06/2019 22:39

The thing is, once SF had been cast out of the RF she had no means of supporting herself. The only thing worse than marrying into the RF it seems is getting divorced from it.

She wasn't the cleverest, wasn't employable in an ordinary day to day way so she sold the only thing she had, which was her name and connections. Bad decisions, but never underhand or criminal.

She was another one with a dodgy dad, remember Major Ron?

MaybeMonday · 07/06/2019 22:56

My sister worked with SF and said she was one of the most attractive women she had ever seen. Beautiful skin and hair. In RL healthy looking people of normal size are much more attractive than very thin 'photogenic' people. IMO

iknowimcoming · 07/06/2019 23:05

I think Harry will be there on his own, also hoping for the three Cambridge kids to be there

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/06/2019 23:09

Looking back at old photos of Fergie it's clear she was attractive. Unfortunately for her she was constantly compared with Diana in the beauty stakes and found wanting.

I googled Fergie's father as I knew there was some scandal about him but I couldn't remember exactly what. Apparently he frequented a massage offering "happy endings" but claimed he only ever went for straightforward massages Hmm

Anyway, I know it was talked about that Andrew married another "commoner" but Fergie is very posh! Major Ron's mother was Princess Alice's cousin, making him second cousin to the Duke of Gloucester, and her mother descended from an old landed family too. Like Diana's mother, she left her family for a man, but died tragically when she was only about 60. Fergie and Andrew have actually known each other since they were children so that could also explain why they're still so close. For all their faults they're clearly very good co-parents as Beatrice and Eugenie both seem like very nice young women.

She is also very animated so there are lots of face pulling, arm waving photos which catch her at the wrong angle where as Diana was much more neutral in her expressions and movements.

Daisypie · 07/06/2019 23:46

I think it was underhand when she was slurringly pressuring the guy to write her a cheque for a large amount to get a meeting with Andrew. Didn't look like the first time she had done that.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 07/06/2019 23:53

Sophie has been caught doing similar though. She seems to have successfully reinvented herself.

UrsulaPandress · 07/06/2019 23:58

Yes I often wonder how Sophie managed it. She is very close to the Queen apparently.

Shame about the shocking weather. Well it is here.

Daisypie · 08/06/2019 00:20

Sophie completely set out to repair her image and never put a foot wrong again. Sarah lurched from one scandal to another with apologies and attempts at redemption in between each one.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/06/2019 03:44

I guess the difference is that Sophie was merely indiscreet, not underhand. Though I don't for a moment believe Andrew was unaware of what Fergie was doing and didn't fully endorse it.

It wasn’t Sophie who was caught in a sting; it was her business partner, in her PR business, Murray Harkin. She dissolved the business and she and Edward went to work as full time Royals. (Edward was also trying to set up a TV production company which lost loads of money. Ardent Productions, I believe it was called).

To be fair to Fergie, she actually made good money in the US. She paid off her debts and took Concorde every week so she could be home for her kids. YouTube and the like were in their infancy, so a lot of her advertising work wasn’t seen over here.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/06/2019 04:35

Interview starts at about 6mins. The rest is background to them ( try to tune out the American narrator)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/06/2019 04:40
She was very funny!
QueenOfTheAndals · 08/06/2019 05:31

Sophie was caught out by the "fake sheikh" too but I'll never figure out how two experienced PR professionals fell for that trick.

Just parking myself here.

Here are Kate's past Trooping outfits, and for comparison HM's last two.
