Previous thread

What neon shade will HM wear? Will the DoE attend? Will Kate have a new coat dress? Will Meghan make an appearance? And which of us will be able to identify every random Windsor on the balcony?

All will be revealed tomorrow...

The point is that these are the people they mix with, and why wouldn't they be friends? Never mind anything else, I imagine if I met kate somewhere, even if it turned out we had a million things in common and in another life could be friends, it seems unlikely we'd become so because never mind anything else, she wouldn't be sure she could trust me or that I could handle the celeb factor. At least if you're friends with other famous people you're starting from the same basic place.

So frankly, I imagine the bulk of the friends the royals make as adults are other celebs. And the ones who aren't, we don't know about.

BlingLoving · 10/06/2019 11:36

If I was both William and Harry I'd be livid at the way their wives are being pitched against each other in public. Not just the media - I follow a few royal watchers on twitter and I can't get over the vitriol that some Kate/Meghan fans have for the other woman. I've purposefully only followed ones who are not like this, but sometimes they engage with the more hardcore ones and I see it. It's just mind blowing.

derxa · 10/06/2019 11:40

It must be very difficult for the royal family in general to know who is a friend and who is a toady.

springgreensunshine · 10/06/2019 11:52

Does the Buckingham Palace balcony have glass? How do they make sure there is no-one with a gun in the crowd?

I realise this is not a question of royal style at all but I think about it every time they are all lined up there.

And happy birthday to Prince Philip. He shares it with my father in law who is the same age. It must have been a good day to be born

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/06/2019 11:54

Maybe it's fitted with bulletproof glass all around?

I can’t imagine Harry finding it harder to get over than Kate!

I think Kate would put up with anything tbh. I don't think she or any woman should be cheated on but she knew who she was marrying, ie not because he is a member of the RF but because he comes across as arrogant, sulky and spoiled. His coolness with Harry and Meghan has done little to diminish my view. The horrible press towards Meghan particularly could have been quickly stamped out if William and Kate had appeared together publicly a couple of times. I think William let his brother down and more than probably let Kate down too.

GlamGiraffe · 10/06/2019 12:09

Maybe Harry and William had a falling put over Kate's ring? I thought it was originally Harry's choice but then it was swapped when K&W got engaged maybe he's wished he'd kept it and they had some words? Can't imagine it being MMs taste though.
William looks too drippy to have an affair to meGrin

queenofarles · 10/06/2019 12:16

No , I did not mean wedding guests.

I’m talking about:
asking celeb to speak on her behalf.

George Clooney, Oprah, Serena, Gayle, they are always speaking about her, and I don’t think they do that without her consent, unlike her stylist friend , who is so tight lipped about anything when it comes to Meghan, so why are the blabbering on about how great a cook she is, how a wonderful mother she will be, and so on,

-Asking to present the designer of the year award for CWK, and give a speech, what for??

Marrakesh trip , appears to be just for the sole purpose of filling up their Instagram page with pictures,

BertrandRussell · 10/06/2019 12:20

“George Clooney, Oprah, Serena, Gayle, they are always speaking about her”

Are they? Must have missed that.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/06/2019 12:24

Asking to present the designer of the year award for CWK, and give a speech, what for??

Because Meghan's dress was the most high-profile one CWK produced over the past year? I imagine that if Sarah Burton were to ever get an award then there's a chance Kate might be invited to present it to her, given she's probably the most high-profile wearer of her designs.

BertrandRussell · 10/06/2019 12:28

It’s very odd that people expect her to draw a line under her past life and never refer to or engage with it again. Of course most of her friends are actory/celebish people. We tend to meet our friends at work.

queenofarles · 10/06/2019 12:28

here

UrsulaPandress · 10/06/2019 12:30

As we have not had the privilege of being given sight of the whole guest list for the wedding I really do not know how folk are drawing these conclusions. Of course the media focus on the guests that are known. Here's Mrs Smith from number 72 in an M&S frock is not newsworthy.

queenofarles · 10/06/2019 12:32

and here

Queen well Sarah did when an award on the exact year Kate got married 2011, Samantha Cameron presented the award.

Horsemad · 10/06/2019 12:33

I don't think the balcony at BP has glass surrounding it. I was in the crowd at the RAF 100 celebrations last year and it didn't look like there was any kind of screen then.

ElspethFlashman · 10/06/2019 12:35

In fairness you absolutely cannot stop actors and celebrities wanging on. They are asked endlessly for their opinions from a young age and grow to believe their opinions matter. So they "bless" us with their opinions at the drop of a hat.

Clooney for example is a man who really really likes the sound of his own voice.

So I don't think that it was all ran by her. At all. I don't think you can control actors mouths that much.

Everyone remotely associated with the entertainment industry seems to be a massive Big Mouth.

AdaColeman · 10/06/2019 12:36

QueenOfTheAndles Here's another little bit for your "all linked together" theory. Barbara Cartland had an an affair with George, Duke of Kent, and always believed that her daughter Raine McCorquetdale (Diana's step mother) was his child.

Daisypie · 10/06/2019 12:37

It did cross my mind (been watching Designated Survivor) that is something unspeakably terrible happened they would be tapping Zara to be Queen.

springgreensunshine · 10/06/2019 12:46

been watching Designated Survivor

Exactly what made me think about it. Because real life is just like American TV drama.

Anyway, back to more important matters of style....

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/06/2019 12:47

Yes I've read that @AdaColeman. The old Duke of Kent certainly got around! I think Noel Coward was rumoured to be one of his lovers too?

Does the Buckingham Palace balcony have glass? How do they make sure there is no-one with a gun in the crowd?

I always think the same when I see them all in open top carriages.

StCharlotte · 10/06/2019 13:05

And there's few princesses who can carry off a major gown and tiara as well as her!

True. Apart from her own sister. They both look magnificent on tiara occasions.

SunshineCake · 10/06/2019 13:14

lovely photo

AngeloMysterioso · 10/06/2019 13:15

I’m not just talking about Megan’s family not being at the wedding. Freddie and Gabriella Windsor didn’t get an invitation, didn’t they all grow up together at KP?

ElspethFlashman · 10/06/2019 13:43

I don't know about growing up together, tbh. Proximity doesn't mean closeness. None of the family can stand the awful PMoK.
