@ella listen to your dh! It's hard letting them go but it's also lovely watching them grow up and get on with their lives. You sound like a fab mum Smile

whiskyremorse · 07/06/2019 19:25

@Ella I agree that your son must have such a great relationship with you and his dad to be prepared to move between you both. I am a step mum to an amazing 31 year old who was left with her father by her birth mum. It is so difficult negotiating Co and step parenting and I was so careful not to be the wicked step mother who bad mouthed her mum. I was always honest with her and we have a great relationship now even though I separated from her dad when she was a teenager.
Probably a bit of a ramble but I'm just saying give him space and love and he won't go far x

Ellapaella · 07/06/2019 19:50

Thank you @whiskyremorse - it's so good to hear these things. He is my first boy, I was only 22 when I had him and a single parent so for a few years it was just the two of us until I met my now DH. Even then I didn't move in with DH until DS was 8 so we were a special little team just the two of us. He's always had a good relationship with his Dad and my ex and I have always remained extremely amicable, there's never been any bad blood which I think is all good and like you say the reason why he feels he can move freely between the two of us. I am used to him going away for pretty much the entire summer holidays to see his dad - he's been doing that since he was small so it's not going to be a complete shock to the system. But it's the little day to day routine things that make all the difference and I know it'll be so strange.

whiskyremorse · 07/06/2019 20:09

@Ella it sounds as though you have a great set up there and he might come back to you sooner than you expect. Me and my second husband have a very modern kooky family with my step daughter living with us for years (not bio related to either of us) and he has a bio daughter who was adopted at birth when her mother went back to her ex who wouldn't accept another man's child. My husband kept in letter and photo contact through adoption and we met her when she was 18 and see her as often as we can as she lives on a little Scottish island. So we have 2 daughters between us and neither traditionally!

Laska2Meryls · 07/06/2019 20:57

Ella I only had the one natural child (and also a really, really lovely DSD as well) , but our set up was a lot like yours , except sadly DS father has never really been that good with him. DS and I had a special team relationship and even though we went through some tough times in his late teens,my DS still talks about in good ways about how we were and are again now. ..Im sure your Ds (even though he wants to spread his wings a bit now), will still take all the love and closeness you had and bring it back 6xfold later on.. Mum and boy relationships are very special.. He will never forget that..

Laska2Meryls · 07/06/2019 20:59

I was a single parent also, for many years.. now I am a joint grandparent to my DS's and DSD's children, .. its great!

Laska2Meryls · 07/06/2019 21:02

.. ..and many thanks everyone for your very, very kind words about my bikini pic! Blush -... I would never post one of me sitting down in it though! #JabbatheHut Grin

Ellapaella · 07/06/2019 21:26

Thank you laska. 😘 you understand it all so well x

neveradullmoment99 · 07/06/2019 22:35

I would never post one of me sitting down in it though! #JabbatheHut

ha ha ha ... Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 07/06/2019 22:38

I so get you on that @Laska.
@cherries, shame about that great dress but i agree about the daisy print hush dress. I had the same print on one of hush's other dresses and its gorgeous. Also love the star print kensinton?

justilou1 · 08/06/2019 01:46

Soooo glad I popped down to Melbourne! When I arrived at the airport, had a million missed calls from stressed out uncle who had been to the optometrist to get new glasses after getting his cataracts done and it turned out he had a massive hole in his retina and needed emergency surgery at 11 pm last night. Was nice to to be able to hold hand and be there for him. Am now waiting for the doctor to come and chat about his release instructions. He’s exhausted and frustrated today, the poor old thing!!!

Laska2Meryls · 08/06/2019 07:25

Oh no Just lucky you were on hand.. poor thing.

Have you all notice that we are tagged in a mumsnet post advertising Hush 'summer picks' on the S&B board? However I really dont recognise the stuff they have picked as being stuff we have raved about !!

neveradullmoment99 · 08/06/2019 08:31

just Hope your uncle is home now. Sounds like a bit if an ordeal!
laska i think some of those comments have been taken out of context? The beach jumper is a beautiful colour though!!! (Tempted) I do remember saying things about the veria skirt.

Ellapaella · 08/06/2019 09:04

Mumsnet definitely scour the threads looking for any positive reviews about Hush and Boden. They will almost certainly have some affiliate marketing with both brands. Marks and Spencer's as well. They'll provide a link for the item commented on and then I'm sure that for every purchase of the item through the link they'll receive something. That's why they never feature any items that have been commented on that are no longer in season. Hush, Boden and M&S are constantly featured in 'Mumsnet swears by'.

Laska2Meryls · 08/06/2019 10:08

Yes shame we dont get discounts though!!
I have DF and DB over again today, lots of cooking, but already looking forward excitedly to sitting down with a Wine to Killing Eve this evening !..

Wearing all Hush today , my new Monacos - I think they will be great traveling trousers for the plane (there, a quote for you MN! Smile ) the blue washed jersey shirt , (my favourite shirt this season - another good quote!) and blue slub T (nice colour , but sadly had little holes in now , which sadly the slub Ts do tend to get - (MN wont use that one) .Grin

Ellapaella · 08/06/2019 10:16

Ooh yes Killing Eve! Fab! Such a crappy rainy day... I'm building miles of Thomas train track at the moment then braving the elements for a dog walk in literally pouring rain 😢
I love Killing Eve, especially her outfits.. can't wait to watch.

ilovecherries · 08/06/2019 10:36

Pouring here as well. My ddog is small enough (and old enough), to miss an occasional walk. She had to be booted out to pee this morning, was clearly planning to stay in bed till the rain went off, but when I got her lead she disappeared under a chair, so I’ve let her off with it. I’m not hushing at all today - next boyfriend jeans, random tee shirt and a big cardi. Where is the sun :(?

I see the bikini thread has gone tits up (no pun intended).

Oh, the Kensington and Lilium have arrived, Hermes will deliver the Boden ones later today. Although looking at the weather, I probably need a boots and trousers back up.

dontcallmelen · 08/06/2019 10:56

Miserable here as well, windy & going to pour shortly.
just oh so sorry about your uncle, hope he has a speedy recovery💐
Looking forward to killing Eve later as well.
Wearing jeans, vest & holey Hush l/s raw edge top (doubt that will get a mention)

twosoups1972 · 08/06/2019 12:03

Rainy and windy here too.

@cherries looking forward to hearing about the dresses!

We have a busy day today - I'm taking dd1 shopping for a prom dress, I'm hoping we'll find one without too much running around. Then I promised to be back to take dd3 shopping for her school residential next week. Was hoping to have an early-ish start but dd1 didn't get out of bed till after 11!

@just sorry to hear about your uncle, what a shock. Wish him well soon.

justilou1 · 08/06/2019 14:46

Hi Ladies, thanks for the messages about my uncle. Surgery went well, but as he’s almost 80 and a bit, ummm... fluffy when stressed, it’s taken it out of him. He’s been very vulnerable today, which he absolutely loathes after a lifetime of living independently. Can’t say I blame him! Meanwhile, I have had the questions about his dementia an answered without needing to resort to subterfuge, as he left his tablets at home, so I had to come back and get them for him. I now know that he actually has an Alzheimer’s diagnosis and hasn’t told anyone. 😢 I have to respect his privacy and his wishes and keep that to myself and just keep popping down to check out his progression. How frightening for him!!!
Meanwhile, onto important fashion matters, @Laska, I missed the bikini photos, but you are my hero anyway!!! No Jabba talk pls. You kick stylish arse and you know it!!!

Ellapaella · 08/06/2019 14:52

@justilou1 Thanks

Ellapaella · 08/06/2019 14:54

Oops sorry posted too soon Blush

I have finally found a dress I love 💕
A rare occurrence. Please give me your thoughts about wearing it with the white trainers though - yes or no? A flat tan sandal will definitely work.
Also found these lovely sandals today in Deichmann.
