Thanks for new thread Smile

Hope everyone is having a good Monday so far. I’m doing a bit of shopping while I wait for dd to come out of her gcse exam. Had a browse in Hush at JL and tried on a Kensington shirt dress which I have never considered before. Anyone got one?

justilou1 · 03/06/2019 11:58

@goodluck.. all are fab - especially the shoes! Are you wearing black ones with the dress? Am looking on my phone (basically Braille). I LURVE THEM!!!

goodluckandgodspeed · 03/06/2019 12:03

just yes they are black. They are river island too but not brand new. They still have them though! These are them.

The dress is going back. It’s too big.

Goodluck jeans are great, must admit I really like RI jeans shoes are lovely as well, I’m not keen on the dress only because it looks as though it’s a bit big, yy the sizing is mad but that goes for most places now.

dontcallmelen · 03/06/2019 12:07

Soups hope the exam goes well, I think cherries has the Kensington dress & possibly Ella as well.

GinandGingerBeer · 03/06/2019 12:17

Can't believe there's a fellow T1 and a pumper too on this thread @goodluckandgodspeed Grin
My fist NHS battle was getting the pump, my second was the libre. I've only had T1 4 years, came as a big shock and I'm still coming to terms with not ever being able to do anything spontaneously without considering my BG/food/stress/exercise/cycle the bloody weather blah blah blah. The pump does help though. I wear mine in a pouch attached to my bra under my arm usually. I can't see your pump and you look fabulous in those jeans. Big thumbs up!

I have the Kensington in fact I have two. I think there's a pic of me in one last year in San Sebastián, will try and find it. Who was it who was thinking of going there?

Ninkaninus · 03/06/2019 12:20

Can I ask how the pumps have worked for you and are they reliable? My daughter has t1. I would really love her to be able to have her meds as easily and simply as possible. She’s struggled off and on with wanting to bother with the meds and I just want her to be well.

Thanks 🌷

goodluckandgodspeed · 03/06/2019 12:20

gin you might be able to see my libre in some of my photos too 😂 I have to self fund it though. Which is annoying. I could buy clothes with that money 😂😂.
I’ve been t1 for 25 years, since I was 10 and I’ve had the pump for 11 years. I struggle to hide it by my bra and it is a pain in dresses but by and large it is still the better option.
Yes I bet that came as a bolt out the blue - my dad was diagnosed t1 as an adult too. He was 30ish.

Ninkaninus · 03/06/2019 12:22

Gin it’s so difficult isn’t it. My daughter was mid teens when she was diagnosed. I think she’s really struggled with the massiveness of the commitment and also the fact that it’s so variable - You can’t just take x amount of tablets once/twice/thrice a day, as you know.

goodluckandgodspeed · 03/06/2019 12:22

nink it’s better. It’s not perfect, but it’s better. I’m moving to an omnipod in September which should give me more flexabiltiy as to where I can wear it and there will be no tubing.
If you want to pm me with any questions feel free. How old is your daughter? It is a demanding disease to manage and requires a lot of patient input. It’s easy to feel burnt out sometimes.
Touch wood my pump has been reliable but you do sometimes get set failures where the cannula is either bent or not in the right place. That is the biggest draw back in my opinion.

GinandGingerBeer · 03/06/2019 12:23

Here you go @soups, I posted this pic yonks ago hence the blocked out face Smile

She’s 20. And now I’m feeling tearful (was already feeling a bit fragile today). You just want to make everything better for your children, no matter how grown up they are.

I worry so much. But at the same time she’s an adult and I have to let her live her own life.

dontcallmelen · 03/06/2019 12:31

Gin I remember that photo, got you mixed up withcherries
Nink sorry you are a bit fragile today, ikwym about wanting to make everything better, I have cried way more tears over mine since they were adults than when they were younger💐

dontcallmelen · 03/06/2019 12:40

Posted too soon, I know very little about T1 except that it’s life changing & can be very challenging to manage 💐 for all who have this to deal with.

goodluckandgodspeed · 03/06/2019 12:53

nink it’s hard. In some ways it’s harder for you. My husband was away last week and we all slept in as it was half term. My mum tried calling me at 8am and couldn’t reach me. When we all woke up at 8.45 she was sat on the drive. She knew I’d been here alone overnight and was worried something had happened to me as usually the kids are up by 7.30. I think that’s the thing - you are dose adjusting what is essentially a lethal drug with many variables.
I wouldn’t say it gets easier, you just get more experienced. I tend to go by gut instinct than carb ratios etc. In that way it is easier for me than my parents, I know my body quite well and don’t feel as worried about some of the decisions I make as they possibly do.
There are tools to make it easier. The dexcom is a good one but it is pricey. The Medtronic 640g will work with enlite sensors and suspend insulin automatically if it senses a hypo is approaching. If either of my children are ever diagnosed - and I have to keep it in mind given our family history - then it’s probably what I would want them to have.

ilovecherries · 03/06/2019 12:53

Here is me wearing the navy one in Sevilla. It’s quite big on me though - mine is a 12, which is my usual size. I’m also bald in it, too hot for hair, hence hiding my scalp under a hat.

Thank you all. I’m sorry, I feel now that I have made the thread all about me, when others are dealing with very difficult sad things right now. But yes, you’re right, it is so frightening. I will never be able to truly relax when it comes to her, my youngest, my baby who’s really not a baby anymore. But that doesn’t matter when they are potentially in danger.

Thanks for listening. 🌷

P.s. thank you for the practical info, I’m going to look into getting her a pump.

goodluckandgodspeed · 03/06/2019 13:08

nink please pm me at any point if you or your daughter have any questions about living with having an insulin pump and I will try and help. I get why my mum was so worried now although I didn’t when I was younger.

dontcallmelen · 03/06/2019 13:12

Nink don’t be sorry, this thread encompasses all of life’s up n downs I feel the same with my dcs as does everyone, you want to protect them & keep them safe, well & happy.

justilou1 · 03/06/2019 13:16

@cherries, you haven’t made this thread about you at all, you are supporting Ninka! We wouldn’t have you any other way! (Btw, you look amazingly glamorous and relaxed in the Sevilla photo!!!)

ilovecherries · 03/06/2019 13:39

I think you are mixing your poster up again, lou Grin

Back to the lighter side of life...

I’ve bought a lot of things this past week; I don’t know why I bother to pretend that spending will be suspended as it never, ever happens! But there were reductions or %off everything, so I pounced.

Gabor wedges in gold
Fitflop sliders in tan
Boden espadrilles in yellow
Blouse from Whistles
Jacket from whistles
Striped navy/white tee from whistles
Suede jacket from whistles (apparently this is a lovely mushroom shade, so I’m hoping it’s going to be the perfect neutral that I’ve been looking for forever)
Joline dress from Hush
Linen top in khaki from JL (this one was not reduced but I have had my eye on it for a long time and only two left in my size)

I really only need a few pairs of trousers now (denim, camel, light green). And the perfect black maxi dress.

dontcallmelen · 03/06/2019 13:47

Ooh Nink all sounds fabulous, what do you make of the Boden espadrilles? I ordered the cream ones yesterday as such a good discount.
Totally flummoxed now, as two lovely pictures modelling the Kensington in Spain.

dontcallmelen · 03/06/2019 13:49

I’m also still hunting the elusive summer trousers & slowly losing the will too live after the coco clown khaki trousers from RI.

goodluckandgodspeed · 03/06/2019 13:55

*dontcallmelen’ I’ve got khaki utility trousers from
RI. I had to have a 6 because they come up massive it seems!!
