Regarding the good-looking but doomed Prince William of Gloucester, this article is fascinating about his parents:

Paradyning · 31/05/2019 11:48

That's exactly the case Queen. Sure I've read that somewhere

IHeartArya · 31/05/2019 12:15

Fascinating article alldressed

Maybe that’s why HM allowed Princess Alice to be called Princess Alice as a thank you.

QueenOfTheAndals · 31/05/2019 12:38

Is Alice the only example of being made a Princess HerName rather than HusbandsName?

I didn't realise that the current Duke of Gloucester is a qualified architect. He gave it up to take on royal duties after his brother died,

The Royal Foundation split story comes from the Sun so far only I think? So while it seems entirely credible, I'm hesitant to take any of their speculation as fact at this point.

When they split their courts, it seemed fairly obvious that more splits would happen. Personally, I'd leave the Royal Foundation as a single entity - it's a lot of work to build up, get funding and management sorted etc, but reorganise with different "divisions". But I guess the worry is that H&M want to do things that are too risky for W&K.

BlingLoving · 31/05/2019 13:10

I like the skirt in theory. But it looks a bit flimsy for a leather skirt?

I think so, although Alice was not actually created a.princess of the UK (as for example, Prince Philip was made a prince), but she was allowed to be called that as a courtesy title.

The Dowager Duchess of Kent reverted to being Princess Marina after her son's marriage, but she was already a blood princess, though not of the UK.

MotherofPearl · 31/05/2019 13:22

I like Leti's outfit. She always looks so fresh and elegant.

SenecaFalls · 31/05/2019 13:24

Lady Alice Scott did have royal blood, though. She was a direct descendant of Charles II.

queenofarles · 31/05/2019 13:27

Queen about Queen Mum and prince of Wales, yes I read that, if only I can remember where!
The feelings were not mutual , and i think it was known early on that David had some issues and would never have children, and Queen Mary arranged the whole thing,
Also there was a sweetheart too, can’t remember the name ! , Who was conveniently moved abroad and out of the way .

QueenOfTheAndals · 31/05/2019 13:38

Yes I've heard about the other man who was sent away. Seems the QM was very popular and sought after by young men. She was never anything more than pleasant-looking, so she must've had a lot of charisma and charm. The latter was obvious even in old age.

I quite like Tatiana's bohemian style @queenofarles! It's not a look I'd aspire to but it's different and I think it works for her.

Re the Garter ceremony on June 17, does anyone know if it’s worth going without tickets? Will we see anything?

SenecaFalls · 31/05/2019 13:54

The other man was James Stuart. He had been Bertie's equerry.

MotherofPearl · 31/05/2019 14:05

Passing through train station today and killed some time in the Accessorise there. Headband section looking pretty well-stocked! I was not tempted.

queenofarles · 31/05/2019 14:07

James Stuart, that’s the name of the other Man, they were neighbors . Glad I finally remembered , it would have bugged me all day.

Marriages back then were still arranged, and beauty was not always a criteria. She seemed pleasant and always looked happy, and coming from a grand Scottish aristocratic family must have been a big plus too.

AdaColeman · 31/05/2019 14:15

I met Princess Alice once, many years ago. She would have been in her early eighties then. She was a delightful lady.

Clankboing · 31/05/2019 15:12

My dd and I were in Accessorize yesterday and bought some head bands. They were lovely. We both have curly hair. When you have curly hair a headband solves lots of problems! And though I feel too old for one they mean that I don't have to fanny around with my hair too much. I remember Doria wearing one the day before Meghan's wedding and though Ah! She has my hair! Dd got a lovely teenage friendly thin flowery plaited headband and I bought a more sensible plaited alice band. I am tempted to get the floral ribbon type ones too. They are good for work / gardening to keep hair out of eyes. If I was going somewhere e.g. a wedding I'd make the effort with my hair and not wear one, but for convenience they are good.

CP Mary in a nice trench.

I'd like to see the confusion that'd result from putting CPM, SWFM and Kate all in the same room!Grin

Thanks to pp about article about Henry Duke of Gloucester and Princess Alice. The current Duke probably gets his stoicism and devotion to Duty from his mother.
