...she’s been working her way through a credit note ever since?

Grin

I have to say she lost me at "kiddies". In MN parlance it made my teeth itch.

beanaseireann · 21/05/2019 07:24

Charles does not look well in that picture.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/05/2019 07:32

He looks very florid doesn't he? He's only a year older than my father but looks far more aged.

Totally agree Bean, that looks like a heart attack face.

The Erdem would be vastly improved with a better neckline. The Victorian night nightdress neckline suits nobody.

I do like the wedges though even though I'm on my own with that. Love a pair of espadrilles or wedges in the summer.

beanaseireann · 21/05/2019 07:33

Florid is the word I was looking for.
Florid and puffy.

Paradyning · 21/05/2019 07:45

Totally agree @StCharlotte it made my teeth itch! Although marginally better than Kiddos.

Love, love Camilla's gown. She looks fantastic in it.

beanaseireann · 21/05/2019 07:57

I noticed the kiddies comment too. Aghh!
Is that a word used, by posh upper class English people, for children ? I'm not posh, upper class or English so I don't know. Perhaps it's the Party Pieces connection?
I actually found it hard to understand what she was saying she is so "grand".
She looked lovely as did the children. It was so lovely seeing them playing happily in the garden - I watched the BBC coverage of Chelsea.
20 out of 10- how sweet Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/05/2019 08:04

Kate's accent is getting so clipped I sometimes find it hard to understand what she's saying these days!

I used to have a bridesmaid dress from my DPs wedding in the seventies in my dressing up box... dead spit for that Erdem number. The culottes are growing on me though, to the extent that I was considering a pair of similar ones on the Uniqlo website. Unfortunately, I can't afford new clothes (probably for the best, I have her height but definitely not her teeny waist!)

AnneEyhtMeyer · 21/05/2019 08:14

Kate sounds like every other person who went to public school. It isn't grand or put on.

RhubarbIsEvil · 21/05/2019 08:19

I am so behind on these threads that I don’t know if anyone has already posted this Instagram link about the Erdem dress and who wore it previously (One of the York’s and the Duchess of Kent). apologies if you’ve already seen it

RhubarbIsEvil · 21/05/2019 08:20

Kate does have massive vocal fry though. I wonder whether it is the nerves which strangle her vowels.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 21/05/2019 08:34

I thought Kate was sounding more fluent than normal when talking about her garden, as if she had been practising. But maybe she has just found something she genuinely cares about rather than merely lending her name to a cause in a dutiful way.

She probably say, 'Come along, kiddies!' so often that it slipped out in public!

desertgirl · 21/05/2019 08:35

Her accent sounds exactly like a lot of other people I know.

I think the problem is that any accent you aren’t used to tends to sound put on (and for some reason I think this applies more to women). Someone with a strong Liverpool accent, for example, sounds fake to me, even though I know it probably isn’t.

StayAChild · 21/05/2019 08:38

Just nipping in to thank all the contributors on these Royal Style and Gossip threads. It's my first stop on MN now.

Lovely to see DoC in the culottes for a change. She has such a beautiful figure.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/05/2019 09:04

That's not it, I live in London and am surrounded by all sorts of accents. But she definitely sounds more clipped than William or Zara or Eugenie.

Love this little snippet:

As the Duchess waited for the arrival of her grandmother-in-law at her “back to nature” garden on Monday, she was seen nervously tidying up the walkways by picking up stray leaves and twigs and, for want of a better idea, stuffing them into her handbag.

Her last-minute adjustments did not go unappreciated by the Queen, who remarked as she approached the woodland: “It’s very tidy.”

Grin
OutwiththeOutCrowd · 21/05/2019 09:17

Smile Nice story.

The Queen has no idea how shoddy and scruffy things can be. She always follows in the wake of people desperately tidying and titivating!

Haworthia · 21/05/2019 09:38

I wondered if Kate’s “kiddies” was actually just an attempt to talk informally!

She does have a curious way of pronouncing her vowels though. Maybe it’s Generic Posh. I wouldn’t know, because I’m a pleb and don’t know any posh people.

escapade1234 · 21/05/2019 09:46

Those Erdem dresses make me irrationally angry. Stop buying them! Surely no woman looks at one of those things and believes they are nice? It’s fashion brainwashing.

(Or Mr Erdem stop making them, that would be better)

Thesearmsofmine · 21/05/2019 09:46

I like the Erdem dress on Kate, I’ve seen a few about in a similar style. The story about her stuffing stray bits in her handbag made me laugh too.

Love the photos of the the dc, beautiful children.

Ninkaninus · 21/05/2019 09:46

Heh on tidying twigs into her handbag!

I actually really like the Erdem dresses. But I am a child of the 70s and I like the boho thing.

escapade1234 · 21/05/2019 09:50

She truly doesn’t. I know many, many people who went to public boarding schools and they don’t sound at all like her. Certainly not people of her age anyway. Harry and William sound like public schoolboys. Kate sounds more like the Queen.

ElspethFlashman · 21/05/2019 09:56

I absolutely hated the culottes + supergas combo. Those things should be burnt. They looked like they were made out of two sacks. And the shoes did not go whatsoever. Why not just keep those sad little tan wedges on? So much better than tennis shoes.

Also her waist span gave me the heebie jeebies. There are rumours popping up that she has orthorexia and I'm like NO SHIT SHERLOCK.

The Erdem? I'm not even going to dignify it with a comment.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/05/2019 09:59

If you watch footage of Diana she sounds incredibly upper class, yet natural. Same with HM. But of course they are of a different age and time. Perhaps a better comparison would be Kate's siblings but I've seen interviews with Pippa and James and they don't sound like that either!
