Previous thread

Any guesses on what Meghan will wear to introduce baby Sussex? I'm guessing Givenchy as it's her go-to designer for big events.

Then again she could surprise us all and come out in a JoJo Maman Bébé breastfeeding tunic!

Are there royal traditions about how many godparents you are supposed / allowed to have?

Re the post about whether Kate would get broody, Louis is still a baby himself so she's not had chance to miss the baby days yet! I wonder if they'll have one more later on, but I don't think she would just yet, and possibly not at all.

floraloctopus · 07/05/2019 12:01

I think they will go with somebody connected to the Invictus games who Harry is close to, the Clooneys, perhaps Eugenie or Beatrice or maybe Zara Tindall?

BlingLoving · 07/05/2019 12:25

The prince from Lesotho is also a good guess. Sentebele put out a twitter this morning saying an announcement is coming. But not sure if linked to the birth. I went to a Sentebele fundraising event once - it was brilliant and I've been following them ever since!

AdaColeman · 07/05/2019 12:42

Prince Seeiso is a Roman Catholic, so a controversial choice for Godparent.

NoTheresa · 07/05/2019 12:51

It’s been suggested in the press this morning that Nicholas Witchell’s autocue failed and there were no back up notes.
He seems to have aged a lot, though.
Perhaps the television companies should not be so quick to jettison women news reporters when they age and hang on in the way they do to men who are pretty long in the tooth. Seems grossly unfair.

AdaColeman · 07/05/2019 12:53

Serena is a Jehovah’s Witness so she’s crossed off the list! Grin

FATEdestiny · 07/05/2019 12:56

Surely Prince William (and Catherine?) will be godparent.

floraloctopus · 07/05/2019 13:09

I doubt it, the Royals don't usually do that - Harry isn't godparents to George, Charlotte or Louis.

allworthwhile · 07/05/2019 13:13

Isn’t it bad form to have family as godparents anyway?

FATEdestiny · 07/05/2019 13:39

Price Andrew is Harry's Godfather

Elllllle · 07/05/2019 13:42

Why is it bad form? Ime it's bad form not to include family as godparents.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/05/2019 13:47

Zara is Charlotte's or Louis' godmother, I can't remember which child. But she's the only family member from William's side who's been made a godparent. I think one of Kate's cousins is another one though neither of her siblings are.

It's certainly fine in the US. I'm godmother to one of my nephews. And this is in the Episcopal Church (the one headed up by Bishop Curry of Meghan and Harry wedding fame), which is part of the Anglican Communion.

theaccidentaleconomist · 07/05/2019 13:59

The Swedish royals usually have a press conference with the father, then some photos of them leaving the hospital. In addition their is a Te Deum thanksgiving service shortly after the birth, attended by everyone expect the new mother and baby.

I expect Meghan won't go for quite such a casual look...

BlingLoving · 07/05/2019 14:01

I don't think there's an official "No aunts/ uncles" rule but I always think it's a bit pointless - the aunt and uncles are going to have strong relationships with the child anyway (theoretically) so it's a waste of an additional adult influence on them to use them as god parents too. and I'm not bitter because DH's brother is both uncle and godparent while not living up to either responsibility for DS

Elllllle · 07/05/2019 14:04

I think that's missing the point of what a Godparent is supposed to be bling.

Butterymuffin · 07/05/2019 14:07

I also think it's pointless to pick the child's aunts and uncles who already have a role. Picking other people increases the circle of folk who have a responsibility towards your kids! And surely there would be a diplomatic aspect to the Royals' choices too.
Wonder when we will hear about the title. Do people think the infant Earl will be upgraded to a prince?

SenecaFalls · 07/05/2019 14:07

For what it's worth, I have a stronger bond with my nephew godson than with my other nieces and nephews. But that probably has more to do with our personalities than anything else.

BlingLoving · 07/05/2019 14:17

That's a fair point Seneca - and true of DH's relationship with uncle/godfather.

Separately, Philip is with the Queen today: twitter.com/chrisshipitv/status/1125743747449409537 Looking really good and not "days away" from dying as someone on the last thread was speculating. Queen, as always, looks fab. But that brooche is a MONTROSITY? She supposedly talks through brooches, I'd love to know what that one is saying....

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/05/2019 14:21

HM looks very happy and god love him, the DoE must be the healthiest looking dying man I've seen in a long time!

Also, Camilla looks good in Germany today. Interesting video - I didn't realise she did the Philip-patented-3-steps-behind thing?

BlingLoving · 07/05/2019 14:24

@queen - THE Queen has been looking very happy generally recently. I wonder if his health had deteriorated but over the last few weeks/months has significantly improved, with a correspondingly positive impact on her aura?

BlingLoving · 07/05/2019 14:26

I need to get off Twitter and onto some work. Here's Kate and William at the Cutty Sark. Looks like she's wearing wide legged trousers or coulottes?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 07/05/2019 14:27

Will & Kate have just arrived in Greenwich.
They are launching a sailing regatta in the summer

Like her little red clutch bag!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 07/05/2019 14:28

X post with bling loving.

I was trying to figure out her trousers.
They look like ankle grazing wide legged trousers. Perhaps that’s now a Thing.
