Previous thread

Any guesses on what Meghan will wear to introduce baby Sussex? I'm guessing Givenchy as it's her go-to designer for big events.

Then again she could surprise us all and come out in a JoJo Maman Bébé breastfeeding tunic!

“Maybe she didn't feel she needed to disguise that she's still got a bump?”

That was the best thing about it. I was so glad she didn’t.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/05/2019 02:03

Tbf it would have been pretty much impossible to disguise that she still had a bump (normal at 2 days PP) without wearing an old fashioned maternity dress like Diana wore and then she would’ve just looked ridiculous. Her bump must have been pretty big by the end I think. I was surprised she wore a white, structured shirt dress though (maybe she reads here and thought she’d do the opposite of the ‘soft, cashmere etc’ predictions).

I actually think Kate has an easier style to cater for in some ways (don’t really know how to explain it) but for example the outfits she wore to debut her three I can’t imagine Meghan wearing in a million years but they were perfect for postpartum. Kate seems to have a more open style IYKWIM.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/05/2019 02:09

But I agree about Kate and the skinnies, I think she needs to go up a size. It’s hard because skinnies are such a go too and anything else might look dated. It must be hard dressing for her more casual engagements.

AhoyDelBoy · 10/05/2019 02:10

Glad I’ve got some fellow Trinny lovers here! I wish I could pull off her style but I don’t have the height unfortunately.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/05/2019 03:36

Camilla always gives the press a good photo op!

Love this evening dress. Really summery and light. The star print makes it look modern.

Lovely sketch

latedecember1963 · 10/05/2019 07:14

I like Camilla's gown. I could see myself wearing that, but with cowl neckline.
That cartoon is so sweet. 💕

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/05/2019 07:28

In the lead up to the birth loads of people were saying how awful it was that Kate came out of hospital in heels and that was what Meghan was getting away from. Then Meghan teeters out in even higher heels that she can barely stand up in and suddenly it's ok because that's what she feels comfortable in.

Then the comments about what Kate wears and how it is due to her personality that she can / can't get away with wearing certain outfits.

The anti-Kate vibe on here is astonishing.

shedid · 10/05/2019 07:47

@AnneEyhtMeyer I think it might be a reaction to the persecution of the DoS in mainstream media and the transformation of DoC from 'Waity Katie' to 'the perfect royal wife'.

I like both of them, FWIW, but I feel far more protective of DoS.

SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 10/05/2019 07:57

anne you've taken the personality thing totally out of context. People were saying how there is just something about Max and the way she is that lets her get away with clothes that other royals (and normal people), just couldn't.

Re the heels it's actually disappointing that both royal women wore heels straight after birth. They obviously wanted to lift their height in the photo's. The previous comments about Kate in heels were only in hope that Megan wouldn't - otherwise I don't believe anyone would have mentioned them.

It's not about this thread being anti-kate. Personally I like both duchesses equally.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 10/05/2019 07:59

Re jeans style, Kate has very toned legs and I think this works against her when it comes to the ultra skinny jeans she favours. A lack of padding and defined, though not bulky like a body builder, muscles in such figure hugging attire do tend to give a Max Wall in tights - as mentioned by Rhubarb earlier - effect.

Do skinnies look good on anyone? Perhaps they might work on a less toned yet slender person rather than an athletically slim person.

I think straight jeans that skimmed her leg muscles would be a better choice for Kate and still provide the long and lean look sought after.

(Feel free to ignore this advice, Kate, if you happen to be reading. You still look nicer in your skinnies than I do in anything!)

AFifthOfKoolAid · 10/05/2019 08:00

If they want to wear heels, let them wear heels! I haven't worn heels since about 1998 but I can't get disappointed by another woman choosing to wear them.

MotherofPearl · 10/05/2019 08:16

@RhubarbIsEvil I'm not sure about Leti, but Kate loves her Supergas.

I think most people on this thread - myself included - think both Duchesses are pretty stylish in their different ways. As @AhoyDelBoy says, in a strange way I find DoC's clothes more relatable. I certainly think she's enviably elegant and poised.

Camilla looks good in both those pics. She loves to pose with a drink!

frugalkitty · 10/05/2019 08:18

Thing is, your presence and personality does contribute to how well you can or can't carry off some clothes, be it colour, style or print, even how small or large a print should be to suit you. Not everyone buys into this of course, but I don't think saying someone couldn't pull off a head to toe bright yellow suit means I'm anti anyone. Max has an exuberance about her which means she can 'get away' with outfits that would swamp the more demure Kate, in my opinion. We all notice when any of the royal ladies get it spot on, there's a reason for that, just in the way we notice if they get it wrong (for me an example would be the blue print evening dress Meghan wore in Morroco, the print was far too big for her....doesn't make me anti-Meghan).

I still think of all the threads discussing royal woman (and men at times) this one is the most balanced. We are generally respectful of each other's opinions and know when to agree to disagree. I don't think anyone really comes across as anti one royal or another.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/05/2019 09:01

The personality comment was regarding Maxima and wasn't meant to be a slight against Kate. She comes across as exuberant and larger than life and can get away with more dramatic styles like capes and jumpsuits and giant hats, all of which would overwhelm royals with a more demure style like Kate or a sleek look like CPM. That canary yellow suit, for example, is one that very few women can get away with!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 10/05/2019 09:05

@AnneEyhtMeyer, Echoing what has been said, this thread is most definitely not anti-Kate, nor anti-Meghan. Far from it. It's a very good natured thread where views (sometimes conflicting ones) are shared and debated respectfully.

It's one of the reasons I'll post here and not elsewhere.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/05/2019 09:06

The skinnies with the striped top that @MotherofPearl posted is a good look on Kate and most of her casual looks are spot-on. But it's when she pairs black skinnies with a black polo neck and blazer that it can look a bit odd, like she's wearing a catsuit!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 10/05/2019 09:07

(And ultra skinny skinnies and matching polo neck would look like a catsuit on anyone, not just Kate!)

Have you seen this page Curly, she does celebrity ones as well (same artist with two different pages I think). I’d love her to do one of my family, maybe if we have DC 2.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/05/2019 09:20

Such cute sketches! She has an IG account for her royal ones only too.

Stravapalava · 10/05/2019 09:23

Camilla always looks good I think. She knows what suits her and doesn't really deviate. Always appropriate as well.

I can't get het up about the skinny jeans thing, if that's what Kate likes & she's obviously happy and comfortable in them then that's fine. Yes she's thin, but that's how she feels most comfortable, so live & let live.

Re heels. I'd probably wear heels as well if I had just had a Royal baby and was facing the world's press! Yes I probably wouldn't be comfortable but I'd feel better about myself!

I don't think I posted at the time, but I absolutely loved CPV's cream dress with the pink butterflies on from a few pages ago. Ethereal and beautiful and if I was getting married now, I'd consider it as a wedding dress.

RatherBeRiding · 10/05/2019 09:30

LOVE Camilla's light summery evening gown! She usually nails it - she knows what suits her and what she likes and comes across as very stylish without having to try.

Lexilooo · 10/05/2019 09:52

Anyone think HMQ looks more excited about meeting Valegro at Windsor than about meeting her newest great grandchild the day before?

I note no critique of her Royal Windsor attire........ practical but not glamorous.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/05/2019 09:58

Take it Valegro is a horse ? She did look in her element at the horse show. However she and Phillip were beaming at Archie.
I haven’t however seen her hold any of her grandchildren apart from Charlotte on her lap in that Annie Leibovitz photo.
