Any guesses on what Meghan will wear to introduce baby Sussex? I'm guessing Givenchy as it's her go-to designer for big events.

Then again she could surprise us all and come out in a JoJo Maman Bébé breastfeeding tunic!

The thing that George did (calling himself another name) is what my ds2 did. He called himself Bob, his cars Bob, his soft toys Bob. It was his favourite name. When he knew I was pregnant he asked for him to be called Bob. As I quite liked the name I did use it for baby. Not actual name. I wonder if George requested it?

TooManyPaws · 08/05/2019 18:51

And I presume all the people that will whinge about surnames being used as forenames won't have used anything like Graham, Gordon, Duncan, Douglas, Scott, Elliot, Stewart/Stuart, Ross, Mackenzie, Bruce, (and hopefully not Percy) for any children? All surnames. Actually, surnames are pretty traditional in Scotland; my generation was the first to not have more than one surname in the mix in our family; out of four names, my dad had three surnames.

Archie is pretty traditional if you take it from Archibald and many diminutives have become names in their own right, such as Eliza, Robin, etc. Archie Mountbatten-Windsor will fit right into an aristocratic rather than royal setting.

Clankboing · 08/05/2019 18:54

I think Archie is lovely - a very gentle name. As someone earlier said it has a 1940s Hollywood vibe to it. It also reminded me of George Harrison and I immediately thought he sounds like he's in the music world.

Calloway · 08/05/2019 19:13

Meghan looked absolutely gorgeous and so glowy, and the baby looked perfectly cute, well the bit of him that could be seen!

But my oh my, what an awful name they picked for the little fella! Alfie is this generation's Gary. Glad to see the lack of title though.

Calloway · 08/05/2019 19:13

Archie is this generation's Gary! Alfie is this generation's Kevin.

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 08/05/2019 19:23

Although disappointed that there is no Diana/spencer reference I think they have made the right choice regarding titles. I wonder if he will use Harry’s courtesy title but according to press reports he is not going to known by any title. Archie is a little of the moment but Harrison is a nice tribute to Harry.

megletthesecond · 08/05/2019 19:26

I like to think there's a nod to star wars with 'Harrison' too. Harry was in Force Awakens wasn't he.

itswinetime · 08/05/2019 19:31

The problem I think with giving a nod or honouring Harry's family either side with a name is that it just highlights the issues with meghans side again.

pallisers · 08/05/2019 19:31

Doria's outfit looked lovely from what I could see of it.

floraloctopus · 08/05/2019 19:31

How long before the tin hat brigade on the main threads say that the reason he's got Harrison as a middle name is because he was really born on May 4th? Grin

SlipperOrchid · 08/05/2019 19:35

Kate and William’s kid’s names are all from the Windsor side. Nobody batted an eyelid. It is accepted as they are going to rule. Mere subjects now down to the royal blood. Etc etc.

Meghan and Harry don’t do it and it’s a slight on her family.

There is no consistency other than people using it as a stick to beat Meghzn!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/05/2019 19:37

Really impressed they eschewed a title.
When I heard Harrison, I thought of Harrison Ford. It was only when a pp said Harry’s Son that I twigged.
Super cute, not being saddled with a title, bearing in mind as the Cambridge children grow up, he will plummet down the list in line to the throne.

itswinetime · 08/05/2019 19:41

*Meghan and Harry don’t do it and it’s a slight on her family.

If that's meant to be in reply to my comment I was bashing them at all just that I can see why they decided not to honour anyone's name. I didn't mean it was a negative Just a possible reason.

Here is the black and white photo in colour if anyone wanted more detail

I think it's all lovely. Lovely photos and vid. Good luck to them all. May baby Archie have a long and happy, healthy life!

Nogravyforyou · 08/05/2019 19:56

In terms of fashion, I really liked DoC red blazer in Wales today. Not sure about the turtle neck but turtle necks don't do it for me at all. Can't do a link but lots on the Kensington Palace Instagram.

GrumbleBumble · 08/05/2019 19:58

Perhaps they don't want to burden him with the weight of lugging around Spencer or another name associated with Diana? With complex family dynamics on both sides it was probably a wise idea to pick names that don't have everyone linking it to this person or that family.

SunshineCake · 08/05/2019 20:01

"I don’t think our dear Queen is the cuddling babies type.
She left the tiny Charles behind in England while she went off to Malta for two years to enjoy the fun of being a navy wife."

And people never change Hmm. She was duty driven back then and I'm sure she cuddles all the babies very much.

I'm curious as to how all the people slagging off their name choice would feel if their choices were publicly ridiculed.

Horsemad · 08/05/2019 20:03

That picture really is lovely 🙂

AdaColeman · 08/05/2019 20:09

She was duty driven back then
She hadn't ascended the throne at that point. Her only duties were making sure she drank plenty of Cosmopolitans and that she could tango with style!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/05/2019 20:17

Camilla b isn’t shown a picture of Archie by Arthur Edwards, in Leipzig.
She said «you’d better show it to the boss»

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/05/2019 20:19

I definitely prefer the colour photo of the family rather than the b&w one.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/05/2019 20:24

Love the Camilla picture with Arthur Edwards!

Meh. I'd deal with it.
