Any guesses on what Meghan will wear to introduce baby Sussex? I'm guessing Givenchy as it's her go-to designer for big events.

Then again she could surprise us all and come out in a JoJo Maman Bébé breastfeeding tunic!

People have been so nasty, bitter and snobby over the name. It’s shocking.

Not really. Some posters on Mumsnet are just fucking vile and can’t muster up an original thought between them.

BertrandRussell · 08/05/2019 17:39

Good seeing Her Maj and Philip in their equivalent of jeans and a hoodie. That was my mum and dad’s idea of casual too!

Onprozacandmyhighhorse · 08/05/2019 17:44

Archie was my late dad's name. You couldn't have found a better person if you searched the world so I'm delighted with their choice. A good strong Scottish name. Actually when I think about it every Archie I've ever known was absolutely lovely. Beautiful baby and mum and dad looked thrilled. Lots of love to them all x

Sybelline · 08/05/2019 17:46

I think they can say Archie is British. It was also Cary Grant's real name!

Archibald Leach. Can't think why he changed to Cary Grant instead.

I can't say I'm keen but Archies and Harrisons are to be found all over the land so they're certainly keeping in touch with their subjects.

floraloctopus · 08/05/2019 17:47

You couldn't have found a better person if you searched the world so I'm delighted with their choice.

That's lovely :-)

I know a boy called Harrison who struggles with his confidence, I hope the choice of name makes him smile today.

Spudlet · 08/05/2019 17:48

I think that's a sweet name. Mind you, although DS has got a proper grownup name which is deployed when he's being a little bugger, the name we use for him is one frequently sneered at by posters on the name threads. So I am obviously out of step and considerably posher than yeow... erm, them or else, and more likely, totes common.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 08/05/2019 17:49

Archie doesn't sound American to me. It makes me think of a market trader on EastEnders.

Not mad about it but at least it's not Arthur.

Butterymuffin · 08/05/2019 17:49

I didn't expect that at all. I don't like the names or that combination tbh, but it's their choice and it seems clear it's what they like rather than what they felt was expected of them, so fair enough.

What's this about Prince George calling himself Archie? Where is that info from?

Horsemad · 08/05/2019 17:53

Apparently there were reports in the media a while back, that George had told someone his name is Archie!

If a random dog walker quoted by the Sun can be believed!

OP posts:
Sybelline · 08/05/2019 17:56

If true that would be very weird. I know they're allegedly not getting on at the mo but I doubt they'd pinch their 5 year old nephew's nickname!

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/05/2019 18:01

Yes but this was back in January and kids change their minds all the time. For all we know George may have nicknamed himself Jim or Dave by now!

OP posts:
Spudlet · 08/05/2019 18:04

They might even have asked George FFS - he might be pleased to have a cousin that shares his special nickname, if it's even true! But of course, it will be used as yet another stick to beat Meghan with.

Butterymuffin · 08/05/2019 18:04

Ok, having read that story, it's just as plausible that George could be calling himself Spiderman by now.

itswinetime · 08/05/2019 18:07

If it was George's choice of name you can put money on him having a new name by now.

Likewise if it's a security thing then it will have been changed the second it hit the press.

gingercat02 · 08/05/2019 18:08

Oh well totally wrong with the outfits name and everything really 🤣
Love Archie and delighted with no title. He looks a real cutie. Meg and Harry look stunned but thrilled. Really pleased for them all

Butterymuffin · 08/05/2019 18:10

Yes, I thought it could be a security thing too.

motheroftinydragons · 08/05/2019 18:18

Princess Pushy, Duchess of Demands will insist upon a title for her child! She will keep everyone waiting for two weeks to announce her baby's birth, and refuse to be seen with it for months on end.

Oh, wait....

What a great F you to the media and people who've been so repugnant to a pregnant woman and first time mother. Well deserved.

It wouldn't be my choice of name but they like it, they chose it so good on them. It's a perfectly nice, normal name for a child that will in all likelihood be brought up as normally as they can manage.

SenecaFalls · 08/05/2019 18:22

My many times great-grandfather who immigrated from Scotland to North Carolina was named Archibald. I assume he was called Archie. At first blush, I wasn't a fan when I heard the name, but it's growing on me, especially after my brother reminded me of our ancestor. Smile

BertrandRussell · 08/05/2019 18:31

Well, Archie is currently 18th in the name league tables, and 3000ish parents liked it last year......

RedLemon · 08/05/2019 18:32

I think it’s a lovely name. Very sweet. Meghan looked beautiful- knackered and elated just as she should beSmile

catofaragon · 08/05/2019 18:40

My dad is Archie (Archibald). When I was growing up I was embarrassed by his old fashioned name. How times change!

I'm not keen, but it's their choice and if they love it that's what matters.

yellowalstroemeria · 08/05/2019 18:43

Harry is just the personification of 'over the moon', isn't he?! Awwww. Megan looks lovely. She defo wanted to be holding him, glad she got him back once they met the Queen/DoE.

I like Archie. Archie Dumbarton sounds like a glamourous earl in the 20s.

The Queen says “how lovely”
The Queen thinks “I prefer the ones with four legs”
Grin Grin
I love this, I think she definitely had a 'gimme! cuddle!' look though!

Gooseysgirl · 08/05/2019 18:48

I love the name! I honestly thought they would plump for a title - I'm really pleasantly surprised. Hopefully now that they've done the photocall thing they can get back to enjoying their newborn.
