One of Andrew’s middle names is Edward, so not unprecedented to use one child’s middle name for a subsequent child’s first name.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/04/2019 18:13

Could you imagine the Mumsnet thread in rl if someone used two of their cousins names for their own.

Dear MN, my husbands nephews wife has recently had a baby and used the same name as our daughter. Then thry had a boy and named him after our son! Aibu to think at all the family parties it will be confusing and I don't want mine to end up being called Big Louis!

beanaseireann · 23/04/2019 18:18

Re the Queens great grand childrens' names, it appears that the parents chose the first name because they love it and chose the subsequent names for tradition.

Twisique · 23/04/2019 18:22

I think Earl Spencer's youngest is Charlotte Diana, and his oldest is Louis so there is a lot of cross over. Perhaps they don't hang out much!

Twisique · 23/04/2019 18:22

Oldest son that should say.

BigGlasses · 23/04/2019 18:29

mintandthyme thanks for that, I didn’t realise the Tindall girls had middle names. Rubbish website I must have been looking at!

desertgirl · 23/04/2019 18:42

My ex had one cousin, only. That cousin had the same name as him but with a different spelling.

My extended family tends to do the ‘choose a first name, other names for family tradition’ thing and we are most unroyal...

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/04/2019 18:59

I have a fairly unusual name and my mother was livid when her cousin had a baby girl a few months after I was born and gave her the same name as she liked it so much!

I recon there is more of the whole reusing one child's middle name for a subsequent child's first than we realise. A lot of the time we don't know siblings middle names particularly if they have multiple middle names like the royals. Plus I recon Wills and Kate have a fairly short list of acceptable first names, so don't have much choice anyway.

Although it does amaze me that the queen used Charles. A rather contentious name for a future king.

SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 23/04/2019 19:04

*reckon not reconBlush

SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 23/04/2019 19:06

queen that's bad when you were that close in age but a compliment to your name/ your mother's choice really.

Twisique · 23/04/2019 19:06

I think I read on one of these threads that Philip chose Charles' name?

brizzlemint · 23/04/2019 19:10

I know a family with a Katherine and a Katrina - both versions of the same name.

beanaseireann · 23/04/2019 19:13

I thought Charles an unusual name too given the history of the previous King Charles 1st and King Charles 2nd.

AnnaComnena · 23/04/2019 19:14

I recon there is more of the whole reusing one child's middle name for a subsequent child's first than we realise.

It happened in my extended family. Like Louis, the reused name was a family name. I guess they gave it as a middle name in case they didn't have another son, and then the other son came along after all.

In George's case, George was presumably to please the queen, I've seen it suggested that Alexander was Kate's choice, and Louis would have been for Philip and Charles.

PinkieTuscadero · 23/04/2019 19:17

If MM has only had a nose job (she's deffo had a nose job) and veneers that's pretty restrained by Hollywood standards!

This website really points out the teeny tiny tweaks that celebs have done to their faces. And here's their take on Meghan's potential cosmetic enhancements.

yellowalstroemeria · 23/04/2019 19:18

Oooh I like Theodore! A nod to Doria, retro and 'classic'. Not very sure on Theodora but it's quite princessy.

PinguDance · 23/04/2019 19:20

In my head baby Sussex is a girl called Æthelflæd (any Last Kingdom fans on this thread?) and this is only going to lead to disappointment. I think it’s going to be in the Zara/Savannah/Mia vein and wouldn’t be surprised if they reject a title.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/04/2019 19:22

Æthelflæd is on MY baby name list if I have another

Stravapalava · 23/04/2019 19:30

I think a girl too and they'll go something like Matilda or Clara.

PinguDance · 23/04/2019 19:35

Alexander is a great name I think - could work for baby Sussex as royal but not obvious. I hope they choose a name they like, I don’t believe they would really like the name Phillip.

Andrew has Christian in his name which I actually really like - but i don’t expect m+h will feel beholden to use one of these ‘in circulation’ names

PinguDance · 23/04/2019 19:37

Oooh the queen mum was both Angela and Marguerite- love Marguerite!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/04/2019 20:15

Doria has a Wiki page. Just clocked where she and Thomas got married. Quite what she made of St George's chapel I can only imagine. She's not your average MN mil that's for sure! How lovely for Harry that he has a mil he really likes.

brizzlemint · 23/04/2019 20:56

I might me making this up but I'm sure I read somewhere that Charles won't be King Charles III but will use a different name instead, presumably because of what happened with KC 1&2. I think he might use George instead but I might have made this up too much use as a chocolate teapot

Horsemad · 23/04/2019 20:58

I've heard that too brizzlemint.
