@Thesearmsofmine

.

It has felt like a really long pregnancy, with Kate we knew early but it didn’t feel so long

Hate to contradict you, but Kate's pregnancies were reported in excruciatingly tedious detail. The difference is that her pregnancies (barring the idiots who thought HG was a lack of steely resolve) were mostly celebrated as joyous.

Meghan's pregnancy hasn't had the postive fervour and she has been relentlessly criticised, harangued and generally shat upon as people come to terms with the fact that black genes are forever intermingled with the royal family.

FogCutter · 23/04/2019 09:46

I think it's a girl and she will be named after a strong female role model eg

Aphra
Eleanor
Rosa/ Rosalind
Maya
Emily / Emmeline
Lilith

Hoping they use something a bit 'different '!

SlipperOrchid · 23/04/2019 09:52

Becles You are right. A sad reflection on the British public but a true one. They treated MM horrifically since her pregnancy was announced.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/04/2019 09:56

Right on the money as usual @Becles.

Checking in as eagerly awaiting baby news!

Just a note - the stories that they announced at Eugenie's wedding were never sourced or proved. It was that classic speculation where one paper wrote it as a possible and all the others latched onto that and took it as a given forever afterwards. I remember at the time reading the various news reports very carefully (some of you may remember me ranting in previous threads about the media's habit of using each other as sources so that a story becomes "FACT" even though only one paper ever had so much as a sniff at a source) and it was very clear that there was absolutely no factual back up to her "stealing Eugenie's thunder" at the wedding.

Also, from everything we know of Eugenie, who is generally considered to be the nicest member of the royal family, I'd imagine if she knew Meghan was pregnant at her wedding she'd have made the bloody announcement herself while happily congratulating her cousin and his wife....

Doria's arrival only this weekend suggests to me that she really isn't due until nowish. So we could be waiting a week or even two. Sigh.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/04/2019 09:58

@ElspethFlashman If they do go for
Rose then there'll be accusations of rubbing it in because of the recent rumours about William! There's very little Meghan does that isn't twisted by the press to turn it against her 🙄

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 23/04/2019 10:00

@BlingLoving Yes, it was Rebecca from the Mail who was the first to say they announced at Eugenie's wedding and all other outlets immediately took it as fact.

Meghan said she was due at the end of April but we aren't quite there yet. Her due date may be the 30th for all we know!

Oh, on the easter outfits - agree completely that Sophie and Lady L look a bit wintery. But to be honest, I did think Kate was probably over warm as even though the colours were lovely and spring like, the whole outfit was clearly designed to keep her warm and it was such a lovely day. Of course, when they all planned their outfits they'd have had no idea that we were going to have such gorgeous weather.

For Lady L, I think I'd put her in more shift dresses or simpler fabrics. Or skirts that are a little playful with a more conservative blouse. I agree that her outfits can be quite matronly. I've seen her wear the teenage version of the dress coat which works - boring as hell, but appropriate without being too old lady - but I think she could dress her age and still be appropriate.

If I recall, Eugenie and Beatrice used to turn up for these church walks in slightly more funky clothes when younger? I'm thinking tall boots, skirts etc? Or am I making that up? I found a few Getty images from 2002 and 2011 I think - pasted below. Not great examples so maybe I am making it up.

www.gettyimages.dk/photos/easter-windsor-2010?mediatype=photography&phrase=easter%20windsor%202010&recency=anydate&sort=mostpopular&license=rf,rm&page=1&suppressfamilycorrection=true

Interestly, looking at Getty's images of easter for 10 years, pre Kate, I notice the photos often are of Sophie. Was she the sort of female superstar before Kate came along?

BlingLoving · 23/04/2019 10:09

@queenofandals - that's it. I think it was a sort of speculative tweet or something? And the next thing everyone was printing it as fact and commenting on how inconsiderate she'd been blah blah blah.

I still think the poor woman was probably in shock. I've said it before But I have no doubt that because everyone told her that her fertility had fallen off a cliff the day she turned 35 her and Harry were trying on the assumption it would take MONTHS or even years. And then wham, she was pregnant! Makes me laugh every time.

Becles · 23/04/2019 10:10

Good point @BlingLoving I remember some people speculating and then after the announcement (in case she had to pull out of tour events I think) there were suggestions that they may have told the wider family F2F at the wedding.
Suddenly the DM is saying as fact there was a mega announcement at Eug's wedding.

I think we need to set our own standards on the royal threads like they do on the parking threads (diagram). No trumpets or Meghan style calligraphy on linen, papyrus note paper - it didn't happen.

off topic, I now want personal trumpeters

AFifthOfKoolAid · 23/04/2019 10:12

I bet Theodosia.

Did anyone see the ITV programme about the baby last week? I didn't, but saw this clip on Twitter and it just shows how the rumour mill can go into overdrive based on not a single grain of truth...

If the rift between W&H is true I have wondered whether it is H distancing himself both in emotion and location from W because of W's involvement with Rose. H is close to both of them and yesterday It was the brothers not making eye contact while H laughed with Kate.

But the press will blame MM.

Daisypie · 23/04/2019 10:19

I actually think Meghan should have been kind of apprenticed to Sophie and accompanied her to heaps of boring low-key events. Less glamour, more grunt work.

BlingLoving · 23/04/2019 10:25

@daisypie - not a bad idea. I saw something over the weekend making the point that Anne is out there in all kinds of back-of-beyond towns and villages, opening fetes, unveiling statues etc while William/Kate and Harry/Meghan are almost entirely in London or doing the BIG things out of town. And it really made me think. I'm not one of those people who think Kate should be out and about 3 times a week to justify her existence - I have no problem with her focusing on her children or even just sitting around eating bonbons - but it did occur to me that a bit more day to day stuff would be nice.

Although, to be fair, in light of the interest in them, I imagine the planning and prep for a trip to unveil a statue is probably not worth it.... The security, press management, politicking etc would be insane.

SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 23/04/2019 10:28

Meghan's pregnancy hasn't had the postive fervour and she has been relentlessly criticised, harangued and generally shat upon as people come to terms with the fact that black genes are forever intermingled with the royal family.

Before Megan came on the scene, I would have thought that kind of ridiculous and disgusting racial hatred/thoughts were history - that it wouldn't happen now. But I think you're right that's what has happened. It's been an eye opener for me, as to the level of racism that still exists even in 2019. I just can't comprehend how people can think like that.

motheroftinydragons · 23/04/2019 10:30

Checking in! I also think baby will be a girl. No idea on names though. I think Meghan's been treated appallingly by the press, they should be ashamed. I don't know if it's racism or just good old fashioned 'anything for a headline' but it's unpleasant. She's spent no more on clothes than DoC does, she's done loads of duties despite being pregnant - and we don't know that it's been complication free or easy - and the reporting has just been grim.

Let's hope it's all a bit more neutral and factual post-birth!

ElspethFlashman · 23/04/2019 10:35

I definitely think the Kate performance at the weekend was a "Look how much I laugh merrily with my totally faithful husband!

Cos she was animated as fuck and Easter services aren't that much of a laugh riot.

Reminded me of when David Beckham was going through the Rebecca Loos thing and Victoria practically shagged him on the red carpet in a corset dress to show what she thought of the rumours.

Don't get me wrong, I thought it was 100% the right thing for Kate to do. She did not look like a woman whose husband has been playing away. The big media take away from the story has been H + W obvs, but also people noted how happy and joyous she looked and how she was making an effort with Harry. And wearing her wedding jewellery! Clever girl!

Shame William didn't get the memo and looked grumpy as always. He's so shit at PR, I honestly despair.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/04/2019 10:36

Let's also hope that if her baby is a girl then she doesn't grow up being constantly compared and contrasted with Charlotte. It's the sort of thing the Mail do but perhaps in 15-20 years time they'll be a bit more enlightened!

OP posts:
motheroftinydragons · 23/04/2019 10:43

William does come across as a grumpy sod doesn't he Grin Saying that, If is have been on the business end of the recent press I probably would be too.

DoC knows how to play the game. She's not daft!

Rhubarbisevil · 23/04/2019 10:48

Complete speculation, but I think William may suffer from depression and, if he does, who can blame him?

Either that or he got the memo that we are leaving the EU on 22 May and he forgot to order the Camembert for his stockpile.

user1457017537 · 23/04/2019 10:49

I should imagine William would be quite hard work. I don’t envy the DOC. Obviously I don’t know him but he seems quite conflicted and doesn’t seem to relish his Royal role. Although he seems to like everything that comes with it.

Horsemad · 23/04/2019 11:00

Placemarking. I think the baby will be a girl; no idea of name but I do like Eleanor, as suggested by a pp.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 23/04/2019 11:00

Rhubarbisevil I think that too of William poor lamb. Just because you're a Prince & a heir to a throne doesn't mean you can't have mental illness/health problems.

SlipperOrchid · 23/04/2019 11:09

Let's also hope that if her baby is a girl then she doesn't grow up being constantly compared and contrasted with Charlotte.

Let’s face it, MM’s baby will be beautiful. To put it mildly, the RF less obviously so .......

FATEdestiny · 23/04/2019 11:09

I wonder if Baby Sussex will have any celebrity Godparents?
