Previous thread

Surely this is the thread where Meghan has her baby??

I love Leti's dress.

SeaRabbit · 25/04/2019 07:25

I love Leti's dress too.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/04/2019 07:26

Not sure what's happened overnight on this thread really. Anyway, now that the Easter holidays are over there should be more clothes to talk about! Though perhaps a separate thread to discuss baby Sussex names will be in order once he/she arrives!

Some sweet footage of William talking to a little girl who was injured in the Christchurch attacks.

I think the strength of these threads is that we discuss without being too judgy, and while posters might disagree about something they keep it polite (ie not an AIBU type thread!). It's clear that we're a mixed bunch on here, from different parts of the world, royal family fans or not and so on, but that's what leads to good discussion, people challenging other people's point of view and generally a supportive thread which is nice to be involved in. To say that discussing what people wear on the Style and Beauty board is mean and judgy kind of misses the point of the board really.....

Laiste · 25/04/2019 07:53

A mixed discussion is the key to the long life of this thread IMO.

brizzlemint · 25/04/2019 08:08

For what my opinion is worth (not much!) I quite like this thread, it's not cliquey like many.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/04/2019 08:09

I've followed the convention on the Telly Addicts threads where conversation goes for a wander between programmes but returns to the main topic when there's a show to talk about.

Always happy to comment on the fashion when there is some!

I love the fact that there is diversity of opinion on these threads, yet we are kind and respectful of each other's views. I've also learned a lot about royal history that I wouldn't have picked up on a gossip thread.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/04/2019 08:16

I was just coming on to post that link @Queen.
It was lovely. I’d like to see William with children a bit more, he’s really good and natural with them.

BlingLoving · 25/04/2019 08:20

While I like the idea of chatting about the news and gossip on its own thread, in my experience the posters who are attracted to those sort of threads can be pretty.... virulent? So I might avoid it! Grin.

I think we will see a lot more of Kate over the coming weeks now. We've got today's event then two more have been announced for early May in the last 24 hours or so.

I also always think there's a lot more going on than we see. There was an interesting article in People about the Queen at a "private" dinner at the US embassy recently and we do hear via the grapevine occasionally of william, kate, meghan and harry having meetings etc with their charities and other organisations. Sometimes its in the court circular and sometimes its not. That's not to say I think Kate s working 45 hour weeks or anything, but I really do believe there's more to what she's doing than what we see. And I suspect that's true fro all of them, to varying degrees (eg I think we can all assume meghan will be usually be very busy behind the scenes).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/04/2019 08:21

I think these threads are a bit like the RF, we do go off topic, have a grumble. But I think there are in general a lot of like minded people who like having a nose at the frocks, a laugh ( Haakon in the airing cupboard anyone? Don’t worry @frugalkitty, he’s still yours!), some serious conversation about the privileges of the RF and balanced critique.

You can on the whole express an opinion here without being sneered at, jumped on. You can be called on it if yabu but mainly I think these threads are a welcoming, positive place.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/04/2019 08:26

People Article? @blingloving

BlingLoving · 25/04/2019 08:32

I can't see that one as the cookie consent thing appears but doesn't offer me the option to click (seems to be a problem with the way some websites appear on my mac) but the one I'm referring to was a singer who was asked to perform at the dinner and he was chatting about what it was like to be at a relatively small event with her. No idea how true any of it was, but I think the basic point that she was out at this smallish event and I don't think we saw any coverage of it is interesting.

shedid · 25/04/2019 08:34

I like this thread and the way it weaves in and out of both fashion and gossip.
I'd like it to stay as it has been for the last however many threads without being rigorously policed (obviously hate posts aside)

Wetdogloveshubert · 25/04/2019 08:53

Ditto that Queen, that was lovely. It's a shame there isn't more to comment on with the menswear - do any of the royals across Europe do particularly good suits? Edward's double-breasted I think are universally disliked!

latedecember1963 · 25/04/2019 08:54

I enjoy this thread too. It's the first thing I check each morning. 😁 My husband and sons think I'm a bit eccentric being interested in royal things so it's nice to have found some kindred spirits. I rarely post anything because I don't want to repeat what someone's already said or because I have nothing more to add to what's already been said.
I've got quite a bit of worry about my mum at the moment and I'd just like to say thankyou to you all for providing me with a sanctury from it all each day.

Notmyrealname855 · 25/04/2019 08:54

Thank you for the Max throwback! She’s so radiant :) Love her playful looks, she seems like a fun queen!

The thread is great, I just cringe when I see silly rumours/ piers Morgan mentioned :( just not sure why we’d give them any credit really. But the dress chat is second to none!

She’s rather too good to add to the fashion chat - not her job to look fashiony! - but just wanted to say NZ and Jacinda Ardern are so stellar. Heartwarming to see some of the photos of W’s time there, it’s such a really amazing country

Notmyrealname855 · 25/04/2019 08:57

latedecember so sorry about your mum, this thread got me through a terrible winter and it is a great sanctuary! Hope we get some baby news soon for more good news :)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/04/2019 08:57

Yes that’s the one @blingloving
He said the Queen liked show tunes and reapplied her lipstick.
Pretty anodyne stuff

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/04/2019 09:01

@Wetdogloveshubert I think SFF (Silver Fox Felipe!) is a cut above the other royal men style-wise. He looks good in a suit AND in uniform. Harry has upped his sartorial game since meeting Meghan but William and his fleece are a lost cause! And of course their father can be faulted for many things but certainly not his impeccably cut suits!

OP posts:
frugalkitty · 25/04/2019 09:07

latedecember I'm sorry about your mum, my dad is battling Parkinson's so I know how rough it gets at times. I love your username, that's my favourite song in the whole world!!

Curly thing is, I think Haakon would quite like living in my airing cupboard, it's quite roomy. He could pair up socks for me while he's in there Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/04/2019 09:16

I think William looks good in a suit and a uniform.
It’s just since he lost his hair, his face has got very long.
He’s tall and appears to have a good body.
Not that bad!

BertrandRussell · 25/04/2019 09:23

Upper class English men are notoriously crap at casual clothes. It’s because they always used to have “uniforms” for practically everything they did. It’s only competitive recently that they’ve engaged in activities where they weren’t dressed identically to all the other men!

Paradyning · 25/04/2019 09:24

I thought William really suited that dark, dark navy suit he has on today. It looked unusual on him as if we don't usually see him in such a colour. Would need to google image to see if my hunch is true though.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/04/2019 09:30

I don't think William is very photogenic, unfortunately. It's since he filled out in the face. He looks much better when he's animated. It's odd because in many ways he looks like Diana whom the camera loved.

I've also heard that Kate is even more radiantly beautiful irl.
