Evening all Grin

Apologies for the cheesy thread title.

Come and join the MN Perfumistas for gorgeously-scented chat (or Germolene and burnt frankfurters...)

dare i say it i am going off Miller Harris

MrsMoggs · 08/05/2019 23:21

£2 for big molars.

Hope you're Ok One?

Good luck to all entering exam season.

SotD was the perfect Tarversee du Bosphore - today all about the perfect balance of bitter leather, apple and clouds of soft sweet powder.

SotE Paradoxe - smells more vintage than it is. A soapy leather chypre. Much softer than Azuree, softer than Empreinte, in fact softer than Cabochard too - but in the same extended family. An outstanding bargain.

Iambuffy · 09/05/2019 07:07

Sotd pp by the fireplace

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 09/05/2019 07:59

SOTD is Penhaligon's Artemisia. This is a soft, powdery, woody musk. Very pleasant, undemanding, understated elegance - good office scent.

Mrs ru referring to Pierre Cardin Paradoxe? It sounds lovely i am going ot try it..

SOTD ZoZo by Milton-Lloyd. A blind amazon buy. I just looked it up on Fragrantica and read this - "dupe for Giorgio Beverley Hills and it's even cheaper. If you are looking for realistic, green and soapy tuberose, try it. It's very powdery and the aldehydes are strong too. Longevity is really nice." I had no idea. For me it is too sweet and strong so i spray it in the air and walk into it, rahter than spray directly. Mother you're after tuberose aren't you? f you like sweetness it might be for you.

My PP for Tuscan leather has just arrived and i am too tuberosed up to be able to smell it so will report back.

teta · 09/05/2019 13:54

Mb India today.
Mother you asked me to tell you what I thought of it.
Well, I’m still not sure 🤦🏼‍♀️
I think it’s going to be one that grows on me. Initially I got dirty indolic Jasmine with some incense. Rather like a over-scented Trollope hanging around a temple for protection. I didn’t pick up the Patchouli until I wore Patchouli Clouds yesterday and could sense the overlap.
I also think it’s a cold weather perfume for me like Patchouli Clouds.

Also did you pm me with your PayPal address? Because I don’t think I’ve received any pms recently.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/05/2019 14:07

SOTD JHAG Mad Madame. I feel like I should be in summery scents by now, and would cheerfully burn my winter clothes. (That might warm me up, temporarily, at least.)

One I missed about your scan yesterday, hope everything's okay? I can't remember if I ever said, but all my dental nightmares were/are actually a type of neuralgia, and there is nothing wrong with my actual teeth.

MrsMoggs · 09/05/2019 19:46

Yes Kali - can send you a decant if helpful?

SotD was Traversee du Bosphore again. Do think this is pretty perfectly conceived/executed.

Have come home to a couple of ebay mega-bargains, a mini Eau de Gucci for old times sake, and some more vintage Femme. Took a punt on a small bottle for pennies expecting it to turn out to be parfum de toilette, but no, it's actual parfum .

This masterpiece remains so accessible on ebay - and seems to keep pretty well. If you think you might like a soft plummy chypre lit-up with a civet 'Readybrek' glow, then you should track some down whilst it is still so very affordable.

Calmasasleepycat · 09/05/2019 22:42

I can second MrsMogg’s Femme recommendation. I managed to get a nearly full 100ml bottle of vintage Femme for well under £20, thanks to her. It’s EDT but has a lot of presence (Readybrek glow 😊).

I have been going through my perfumes to come up with favourite floral perfumes for summer (MrsMoggs’ idea a few pages back). It’s surprisingly difficult. They mostly seem to be over-shadowed by something non-floral, eg iris, citrus, green notes, fruit or even fabric conditioner/laundry notes (Miller Harris Lumiere Doree). Or the florals are a bit heavy/indolic for summer (many of the tuberose and jasmine ones are like this). I’ve come up with four favourites so far:

Diorissimo (Dior) - fresh and green lily of the valley
24 Faubourg (Hermes) - light but long-lasting orange blossom and white flowers
Tommy Girl (Tommy Hilfiger) - lemony honeysuckle and white floral with other summery smells including a hint of mint. I come back to this one again and again.
La Chasse aux Papillons (L’Artisan Parfumeur) - white floral. It has tuberose in it, but it’s very backstage.

Iambuffy · 10/05/2019 06:40

I really struggle in spring/summer as I'm just not a floral fan :(

Last year I wore next eau nude a lot - also 4160 mrsgloss indoors and lemon sherbert.

I have a couple of new Avons I've bought for spring/summer - tomorrow and litter black dress weekend - which are light and citrus/musk. Just waiting for the weather!

Sotd pp by the fireplace - again! Seems just right for this weather.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 10/05/2019 06:59

I wear a lot of fig-based perfumes in the warmer weather, so Philosykos, Premier Figuier, Debaser, Bois Naufrage. I'm not big on citruses really.

SOTD is Heeley Hippie Rose. Actually this will probably get quite a lot of love in the summer - it's a spicy patchouli rose but it's quite bright and clear. Talking of which, my Fille de Berlin still hasn't arrived from Perfumista - shocking service Angry

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 10/05/2019 07:01

Oh and Diorissimo, obviously! And that lovely little sweet-pea one by Brocade (?? Tenderness), I must get a full bottle of that before the summer because it's just so fresh and simple and cheery.

MotherOfDragonite · 10/05/2019 08:08

I always go back to my lovely Monyette Paris when I want florals. I still haven't found anything that directly replaces it for that.

MCG Sideris is lovely in spring and I think it will also be good in hotter weather. My other new spring/summer love is MH Pamplemousse. I also bought a very very cheap bottle of MH Verger but it is weirdly similar to Pamplemousse and I'm a bit nonplussed as the listed notes are so different. I am also going to try Hidden again in warmer weather as I think it will really come into its own.

SOTD yesterday was Le Labo Labdanum 18, in roller oil form, which was so sweet, heavy and wrong for the season that I actually had to wash it off.

I received a very exciting parcel from Calm yesterday and am going to try some tuberose today! In just a few months I have gone from thinking I couldn't stand the smell of tuberose to realising just how lovely it can be in the right context.

Iambuffy · 10/05/2019 08:21

Sotd is actually amberama:)

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 10/05/2019 08:39

Just a wee bit of enabling on a Friday morning - I've just bought a rather interesting-looking Histoires de Parfums discovery set from Scent City for a very reasonable £25 and free shipping. They also give you two free samples of your choice when you checkout.

I'd never heard of them but was googling Brocard as Bloom didn't seem to want to send me the sets, which was a bit odd...kept saying there were no shipping methods available for me so will have to go into the shop dammit

I was reading the LT/TS book last night and Luca was waxing lyrical about the HdP 'numbers' perfumes, so thought it was worth a punt.

Happy Friday Grin

I love 24 Faubourg calm, but would never have thought of it as a summer fragrance - it always feels too grande dame on me for that. Might have to give it a whirl though!

Oh maud!!
You monkey:)

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 10/05/2019 09:34

thanks for the concern all, yeah i'm okay, i'm just glad that someones finally listening to me. Most of the symptoms i have had, i have had for years but kept getting fobbed off or outright ignored and called an attention seeker so to finally have someone listen and say 'yes, there is something wrong' its a huge relief. In the end, i didn't care what it was, what they called it, as long as they do something about it!

no scent right now, i've been up since 3.45am and just can't settle, don't know if i want to go back to bed or get up, dressed and go out.decisions decisions

SOTD is Eau Dynamisante. I need something to keep me bright eyed & bushy tailed as was up half the night. Self inflicted though, just couldn't stop watching one more episode of Medium, then another & so on. Smile
Postie has just been & I've got my samples of Alexander McQueen: McQueen & Chanel No5 L'Eau. Also got my The Perfume Society Night & Day box yesterday. I'm in Perfume heaven Grin

Maud I can't get onto the Scent City website, just wont load. Maybe we've broken it by all of having a look Smile

OneNight yes it's an absolute relief when someone finally listens & looks & says yes you do have something wrong with you. Though I'm sorry that you do Flowers

KaliforniaDreamz · 10/05/2019 12:20

Onenight i hope things aren't too worrying x

mrs i ill PM you.

SOTD is Tuscan Leather but i am not really feeling it. It is quite sweet. i like my after shaves masculine!

tracy I love Eau Dynamisante - you have reminded me.

GreyBirds · 10/05/2019 12:31

I’ve received my sample of Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso. Really like it. Strong and dark with a bit of a cigarette smell.

I ordered some other Floral Street and Valeur Absolue samples as well but unfortunately they’ve replaced them with things I didn’t want! I’m guessing they were out of stock.

GreyBirds · 10/05/2019 12:33

KaliforniaDreamz Tuscan Leather is my favourite! Quite masculine to meet it does have raspberry which probably makes it seem sweet!

I stupidly bought a bottle off eBay that turned out to be fake since it doesn’t smell much like the proper sample I have! Has this happened to anyone else?

KaliforniaDreamz · 10/05/2019 12:55

Grey mine is the PP version Tuskan Leather so i don't know.
just reading the notes - "Saffron, Raspberry, Thyme, Jasmine, Leather, Suede, Amber and Woody." i was blindsided by Leather and didn't think about the other scents. I can smell a very green smell, i am waiting for the drydown.... it is def growing on me.
i have an unrefined scent palate (?!) and need to learn to wait...

GreyBirds · 10/05/2019 14:01

KaliforniaDreamz ah I see! I actually have the PP version as well but I’m not a huge fan! I’ve read people on here who do find it very similar though
