I haven't even posted a photo of myself and you've managed to sound quite bitchy about me

You're right, sorry!

People blatantly 🎣 for compliments brings out my (and many other people's) unpleasant side. I need to work on that.

or people could just not fish

formerbabe · 09/04/2019 21:53

@YemenRoadYemen no sweat! Grin

princessTiasmum · 09/04/2019 22:12

I will say 56 same age as my daughter, judging by her looks,

princessTiasmum · 09/04/2019 22:13

I will guess 56, as same age as my daughter, who actually looks good for her age

princessTiasmum · 09/04/2019 22:15

Sorry posted twice thought it hadnt gone first time, oops

What was the point of this thread, Destiny?

Roussette · 10/04/2019 07:08

I am trying to get my head round why anyone would start a thread like this...
It could be.

  • I think I look really hot, really young and I want you all to guess my age and I think it will be 10 years younger than I am
  • I am insecure and I think I look old and I bet you're going to guess my age as 10 years older than I am (I doubt it's this one because if you are insecure there is no way you'd be putting up a pic of yourself
  • I want compliments because my girlfriend thinks I should change my hai/make-up/clothes because they're ageing... type of thing.

No idea!
All I know is not in a year of Sundays would I ever ever put up a pic of myself because pics of me are shit and I probably look older than my years

OP.... why??!

butterflykiss00 · 10/04/2019 07:21

It doesn't matter why does it, she did it and wanted opinions on her age, it's easier to put a picture up of yourself if no body knows you than it is on social media. You are not a therapist and you don't personally need to get to the underlying reason.

Roussette · 10/04/2019 07:35

You are not a therapist and you don't personally need to get to the underlying reason
??? What a strange thing to say. This is a public forum and I'm curious as to why anyone would put a pic up of themselves and ask strangers to guess their age. That's all.

And I would class MN as a form of social media.

TheNavigator · 10/04/2019 08:00

I have to say, I share Rousettes's curiosity.

OP - would you mind telling us why you wanted the Style and Beauty forum to guess your age? Thanks.

KooMoo · 10/04/2019 08:15

Actually yes I think Roussette and TheNavigator have a point.

May we ask a collective ‘why did you post Destinysdaughter ?

What answer was you anticipating?

Have you been shocked with the answers, especially the ones higher than your actual age? I’m sure people who put older (me included) did so in the thought that you must be older than you look or you would not be asking iyswim. So compensated for that in their replies.

YemenRoadYemen · 10/04/2019 08:22

and you don't personally need to get to the underlying reason.

No, nobody needs to. But I'm curious, as well.

I think we all know the reason - option 1 from Rousette's list. And the 'oh, I forgot all about this thread, tralala' nonsense only confirms it.

We won't get an answer - Destiny has no doubt reforgotten all about the thread. WinkWink

Roussette · 10/04/2019 09:15

I think we all know the reason - option 1 from Rousette's list

Trouble is, that can backfire. What we see in the mirror is not what other people see necessarily. I'm hoping although I look ancient, to others I look 20 years younger but I'd rather not test that theory by posting a pic of me Grin

JaceLancs · 10/04/2019 09:26

Thanks for update OP
I guessed about right as we are similar ages
Interesting comments from others about looking younger or just looking good
Other people tell me I look younger - I’m not sure now that I do apart from no lines or wrinkles - but am happy to settle for looking great for my age Smile
No way would I post a pic though! Loving the other thread with the primate pics

DeadWife · 10/04/2019 09:27

See, I have been guilty in the past of being a bit of a FB wanker, getting ID'd for alcohol for example and posting that I did, partly in shock but in hindsight cringing and eventually giving up most social media but that's another story.

Maybe OP got complimented on looking young in RL and tried it out on MN for a bit more validation?

If you're reading Sue/Wendy/Linda lots of us have been there and have briefly worn the social media wanker t-shirt. You're not alone.

Oblomov19 · 10/04/2019 09:29

OP forgot? Oh dear!

downcasteyes · 10/04/2019 09:31

I would hazard a guess that the OP wanted some nice compliments on her looks.

None of us have any idea why. It could be anything from being a pathological attention seeker (itself a painful state to be in) to being someone who is coming out of a terrible life experience and who needs a confidence boost.

We don't know.

Is it so very hard to make a compassionate assumption that someone might need a bit of a boost, and to give them that boost? It's just basic kindness.

I have a friend who has an abusive and narcissistic mother, and who has struggled with a serious MH condition her whole life. She writes terrible poetry and plays a musical instrument very badly. I read everything she writes and find something nice to say about it. I go to her recitals when I can and applaud loudly at the end. Why? Because she is fucking suffering and she needs someone in her life to say SOMETHING positive. It doesn't matter that she's not Byron or Anne Sophie-Mutter. She's trying and fuck knows life is hard enough.

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 10/04/2019 09:35

Alison, come back to your thread and tell us whyyyyyyyy!

HolesinTheSoles · 10/04/2019 09:38

Bloody hell you're a mean spirited lot! OP obviously looks nice and probably looks young for her age and thought she'd post a nice picture of herself and get a bit of confidence boost.

Being MN though people thought "oh here's someone wanting some nice comments about her looks for her age I'll show her" and loads of people massively high balled her age and had a go at her.

MrsChanandlerBongg · 10/04/2019 09:44

@formerbabe if you wanna post a picture then do it, let the haters hate 😂 I would post one of me but I'm afraid people will say I'm too beautiful I'm obviously joking

Unburnished · 10/04/2019 09:45

HolesinTheSoles I dont think people high balled her age though did they. Most people guessed correctly that she was in her fifties. That’s not to say that she doesnt look good because she clearly does. Lovely face, figure, smile etc.. and beautiful hair. It’s just that she does look her age and there’s nothing wrong with that.

DeadWife · 10/04/2019 09:45

How could I forget Alison? Please if nothing else OP we need to know if you're an Alison.

Best confidence booster when you’re knocking on a bit like me is to tell people that you’re five years or more older than what you are!
