If you could only do one anti-ageing thing what would it be?

If you could only do one anti-ageing thing for your face (apart from sunscreen) what would it be? I am so overwhelmed by all the things I should be doing I want to know what people think are the absolute musts.

Gwen it’s this one... dermaquestinc.co.uk/product/retinol-peptide-youth-serum/
2% retinol

I had Botox regularly for years without my then partner knowing and when we were splitting up he remakes that I always looked smug.

For once he was eight and I’ve stopped having it for several years now and actually look better now than then.

Botox becomes addictive but I’m very glad I gave it up.

What I spent on Botox would now easily pay for a brow lift or facelift.

plotmissinginaction · 10/04/2019 20:36

I will check out the Medik stuff thanks!

Ah well I feel less shit about the fact I can't afford Botox then :)

Good posture takes years off and makes you look slimmer, taller and more confident!

bluebellation · 10/04/2019 20:42

fritata I was just about to say Stand up straight - and smile Grin. A confident friendly attitude takes years off you.

FritataPatate · 10/04/2019 21:10

bluebellation, Grin I just need to take my own advice!

Flakeyface · 10/04/2019 22:02

I’m a cosmetic doctor. Spf and retin A.
Anything OTC is fairly useless in the long run.

MorrisZapp · 10/04/2019 22:43

I'm frightened retinol will burn and sting. Also, can you use it on your neck?

Milliy · 11/04/2019 01:41

Eat good fresh food all home prepared with hardly anything processed. Fruit veg water soups stews meat fish . I don't drink alcohol or smoke. Lots of walking and be happy. Make your life happy. I

managedmis · 11/04/2019 01:59

Myfanwy sorry 🙄

deadsexy · 11/04/2019 07:22

@Flakeyface can you please recommend a retin A?

Delatron · 11/04/2019 07:27

Agree retin A is the gold standard. However, it’s only available on prescription here (you can get it in Spain). There are online websites you can buy from but you need to do your research. Start at the lowest % and only a couple of times a week.

I’ve spent a year and a half just on retinol to build up my tolerance. Currently on Medik8 crystal retinal 10 which is stronger than retinol.

I’ll move up to a weak % of retin A soon as I’m tolerating the retinal well. But I’ll only use a couple of times a week. You have to be very careful!

Don't be too skinny. You need a bit of fat to plump out the wrinkles. I have 2 very thin friends (who work at being really thin) and they look older than their years. There is a very thin woman at work who is proud of having kept her figure. Her face looks as if she's in her 70's though.

plotmissinginaction · 11/04/2019 09:45

Ah that's interesting. I have put on a few pounds recently and I was thinking of just letting it be.

So Retin A - start with something UK based and work up to getting the hardcore stuff from abroad?

RodeoQueen · 11/04/2019 10:27

I buy my retin-a in Spain. It comes in strengths of 0.025, 0.05 and 0.1. Start on 0.025 and add a pea sized amount to your face (20 mins after a cleansing). Do this twice a week and be reduce to once a week if your skin starts to feel particularly sensitive. Slow and steady is key. I spent about 1 year on 0.025 before moving up to 0.05. No plans to move onto the 0.1 strength as I don't think there is a huge difference in anti-ageing benefits between 0.05 and 0.1.

plotmissinginaction · 11/04/2019 11:12

Do you order it from Spain then or do you go there a lot?

Lefields · 11/04/2019 13:43

What does Retin A actually do? And can anyone link a reputable, trusted website to purchase?

leonasa · 11/04/2019 14:14

I've tried Retin A and retinol and in both cases I've felt it made my skin look worse - drier and more wrinkly - but I think maybe it just doesn't work with my type of skin. I'm planning on trying Bakuchiol which is supposed to be like a natural form of retinol for those that don't tolerate the latter very well.

VirginiaWolfHall · 11/04/2019 17:33

I’ve had Botox for years but am giving it a rest this cycle; I’m convinced it’s made my hair thinner around the hairline and temples! I think I’d rather look like a 43 year old woman than an egg! Grin

whotheeff · 11/04/2019 17:41

Drunk Elephant do a great retinol. Trick is to use absolutely sparingly but regularly. Check out Caroline Hirons YouTube's on the various strengths. DE is from the US so as strong as you can get here with no prescription. I love the encapsulated form from BeautyPie too.

SelkieRinnNaMara · 11/04/2019 18:13

Rodeo, what do you ask for? crema reteen ah punto cero cero cinco?

StillMedusa · 12/04/2019 01:42

Don't smoke.
Stay out of the sun.... but not entirely! I'm fair skinned, so old that no one put sunscreen on me as a kid, and wrinkled to hell....

BUT I'm also severely vitamin D deficient and on meds for ever.the docs have told me to get out in the sun, with no sunscreen to help boost the meds I'm on!

Or embrace the wrinkles.... mine are a sign I've lived long enough to earn them Grin

Delatron · 12/04/2019 08:15

For vitamin D I expose arms and legs but keep the face covered!
