If you could only do one anti-ageing thing what would it be?

If you could only do one anti-ageing thing for your face (apart from sunscreen) what would it be? I am so overwhelmed by all the things I should be doing I want to know what people think are the absolute musts.

Get rid of any magnifying mirrors / only look in mirror when not wearing specs 😊

bibbitybobbityyhat · 07/04/2019 15:21

Facial exercise. I keep meaning to start! The before and after pics are amazing.

Flowersonthewall · 07/04/2019 15:46

@bibbitybobbityyhat what facial exercises?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 07/04/2019 17:25

@JimJamTimTam

Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A that is great for ageing skin as it helps with discolouration and lines. I use the Ordinary 5% Granactive Retinol in squalane which is £11ish and is really good on my skin, I wake up looking a lot fresher the nights I use this ( about 3 times a week).
The ordinary do other strengths but this one is shown to be the least likely to cause irritation, which is a side effect of some retinols.

Juneau is that true about the sun cream reversing sun damage

DameDoom · 07/04/2019 18:56

Profhilo - works for me anyway.

SelkieRinnNaMara · 07/04/2019 18:59

I looked amazing at 38 as well. 48 is when you know if you're ageing well or not!! I can't complain really but even a 48 year old face that has aged well has aged and it is shocking when inside your head your vision of your self is about ten years out of date!!

juneau · 07/04/2019 19:06

Yes, lindyloo57, it is. And the only real reason I know that is I had my skin photographed and analysed for sun damage, then for two years I used SPF30 daily and went back and had it done again and there was a noticeable improvement. Your skin can heal (at least to some degree), if you give it a chance, but most of us keep exposing our skin year after year, so we get cumulative damage.

mclady · 07/04/2019 19:07

Time machine is my only hope now.

RuffleCrow · 07/04/2019 19:14

Gosh, i'm 38 and covered in wrinkles!

I think it's a combination of ongoing stress and genetic predisposition as I've never been a sun worshipper, barely drink alcohol and gave up smoking 14 years ago etc but have wrinkled in a very similar way to one of my maternal aunts. Still, i have retinol arriving tomorrow so who knows, maybe things can improve slightly if i can get into good sleep habits.

lindyloo57 · 07/04/2019 20:40

Juneau, iam going to start useing spf every day now, I only use it in summer time usually.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/04/2019 20:54

Led face mask, red light.

Sunblock every single day.

JDSTER · 07/04/2019 20:57

If we’re talking skincare, using a retinoid/retinol is a proven anti- ageing ingredient. It’s an ingredient for the long haul and won’t work miracles over a few months. Not all created equal though. Some products may say they have retinol but it’s in a tiny amount so won’t do much. Followed up with daily SPF. I don’t care what Dr Chris says, I’ll go with dermatologists advice, like Dr Sam Bunting, and choose an SPF 50 everyday. UVA rays are present everyday so not just for sunny days. If it’s sunny I’m happy to get a bit of sun absorption on my arms to get Vit D.

babysharkah · 07/04/2019 20:59

Stay out of the sun

plotmissinginaction · 07/04/2019 22:50

What mask do you use fluffy?

Jdster - which retinol product do you use?

Use a micro needle roller nightly before applying night cream/ retinol - a good one will help stimulate collagen production and products penetrate more deeply. I took a 'before' photo a couple of years ago and the results from using my roller are remarkable.

Hazeintheclouds · 08/04/2019 00:07

Don’t sunbathe.

managedmis · 08/04/2019 00:07

Don't smoke

sue51 · 08/04/2019 00:18

Spf, retin a, eat oily fish and a good nights sleep.

MsChicken · 08/04/2019 00:22

Having always spent a lot of the summer out and about in the sunshine I stopped eight years ago. The difference in my skin tone year round is astounding. I don't think I realised just how sun-marked my skin was all the time before, but it's all completely faded away now. Otherwise face exercises and lymph facial massage work well. And polo necks (nothing's going to save my neck).

Winenotttea · 08/04/2019 01:01

Drink 2 litres of water per day.

Milliy · 08/04/2019 01:31

Face exercises

Time40 · 08/04/2019 01:38

Facial exercise. I keep meaning to start! The before and after pics are amazing

I tried them. I tried them properly, for six months. Not only could I not see any improvement at all, but I ended up thinking that it was making things worse. But that was Eva Fraser, and maybe there are some different ones.

I keep thinking about having a face lift, but I'm not sure I'm brave enough.

Time40 · 08/04/2019 01:40

... Oh, and doing facial exercises every day is really, really, REALLY boring!

sardinesontoast · 08/04/2019 01:48

Kids. Before then I had no wrinkles or grey hairs. After, bastards. Also destroying my stomach and racking up my incontinence levels, thanks
