Meeting our bank manager - what to wear? **Thread title edited at OP's request**

I am a stay at home mum and a carer for our autistic son. I am pretty much home bound, though I do go for nails, tan and hair. My husband is much more higher profile than I am, on a very much local scale, and I choose to stay home. I’ve been invited to meet our bank manager on an ‘informal’ basis, but still at the bank. I am conscious that it all sounds horrendous but what the hell do I wear. Please help!

We went to see the bank manager the other day , I wore jeans and a raincoat ( it was raining) I was starving and it was a long appointment . We had quite a giggle about my stomach rumbling .. don't overthink it x

To be a private banking client the standard criteria can be not as impressive as you might think.

A single income of £100k or joint of £120k.

Or a £500k mortgage balance.

This could mean most of the residents of London, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire would qualify.

My bank is 250k savings or investments (not including any property).

@IsThatWise I am sorry that you are not getting the responses that you hoped for.

I think the problem is that most of us probably cannot envisage the kind of event / meeting that you will be attending.

It sounds as though you and your DH are very well off and you are possibly being invited to invest in a 'private bank'. There will be a few people on MN who are familiar with, and understand this world. For others, a summons by the bank manager can be a worry that their overdraft won't be extended and basically they are financially in the shit. Other people will be somewhere in the middle budget wise, may have an internet bank account and won't step foot in an actual bank from one year to the next.

So you can see why posters are having difficulty advising you on what to wear for this event, and those who have offered what they consider to be helpful advice may not actually be advising of what's appropriate in your situation . I posted a few days ago with the suggestion of jeans/boots/ jacket but that was because this is an outfit that suits me for most things I do and what I would wear in the unlikely event that I had to meet my bank manager. Seeing later updates about private banks this might be totally inappropriate as my 'world' is completely different to yours.

I haven’t noticed any difficulty in advising! Fifteen trillion “skinny jeans, nice top, jacket, footwear ...” posts.

Easy enough to spend £5k on this outfit if one wishes to conspicuously display one’s wealth.

I think there are a fair few people on mn who understand the world of private banking eg £1m liquid capital as opposed to premier banking eg £150k income. But very few of them would post on here as this thread evidences very clearly how that goes.

I hope the OP got some good ideas and just ignored the mean posts.

Longislandicetee · 08/04/2019 22:11

OP said in one of her posts that it is not a high street bank, so I assumed that it's one of C Hoare, Coutts, Drummonds, Weatherbys or Arbuthnot or one of their ilk. I can understand the panic because while they are very nice people, it's still intimidating to go to their hq. And that's why you can't go wrong with blazer, smart jeans, ballet flats and a small shoulder bag in these places.

I've been off MN for ages.

Having just stumbled back and onto this thread, please can someone recommend me some decent leather leggings?
