Phillips Lumea has changed my life!

Just that, really.

Been using it since Xmas, every 10-14 days. Haven't removed hair from legs, pits, bikini line or arms in 10 days now and there's practically no regrowth. This isn't a sales pitch btw, I just wish I hadn't spent the last 10 years wanting one but thinking they were too much money!

@Crazycrazylady Kim Kardashian reportedly had her hairline remodelled with laser...i’m not sure i’d be brave enough...

Peridot1 · 10/05/2019 17:39

Did you buy from that site @DC3dilemma? I’m a bit freaked as I’ve had two odd emails from .de and .nl addresses since I bought from it.

DC3dilemma · 10/05/2019 21:40

@Peridot1, yes looks exactly like the site I bought it from. Takes about a week to be delivered.

Peridot1 · 11/05/2019 08:24

Phew! Yes expecting it to take a week or so.

Hoping it works for me as well as it has for some. I’m 55 and fed up to the bloody back teeth of hair removal! Waxing never seems to work overly well on my legs - I think some hairs must break off rather than some out from the root. If I get waxed the day before we go on holiday I will invariably have to shave at some point. And I’m not overly hairy.

I shave my face after reading a thread on here. I just lightly run a razor down the fine downy hair. Seems to work well. Takes seconds. The few prickly ones I have I tweeze. I do have darker hairs on my upper lip so will try the IPL there.

cheezy · 11/05/2019 09:54

I’ve spotted a brand new one on eBay for £100, the SC2003. Is that a good model does anyone know? Seems incredibly cheap!

tasmaniandevilchaser · 11/05/2019 10:09

Just popping back to say I bought a Phillips Lumea at the beginning of this thread and thank you so much to whoever has recommended it, it has totally worked! I have pale skin and dark hair so I can put it on the highest setting.

My bikini line was gone the first time I used it. I shave the occasional hair off my legs maybe once a week if that. My underarms need another blast and so does my chin but they are loads better.

Summer here I come! I can finally slap some fake tan on my legs without shaving it off every day!! 🎉

TheBeastAwakens · 11/05/2019 10:13

I got one last year and it doesn't work properly.

It's really difficult to get the 'ready' light - is this normal? any tips?

I am pale with dark hair so there shouldn't be a problem.

ASauvignonADay · 11/05/2019 10:17

@TheBeastAwakens you have to wiggle it around a bit. The only thing I'd change about it would be to make it flash quicker!

DC3dilemma · 11/05/2019 10:42

@TheBeastAwakens it’s a safety feature to make sure you are fully in contact with skin rather than firing off into the air. So some areas, like bony spots, can be a little tricky to get full contact and have the ready light come on. Easier if you use the smallest attachment in these places. You get the hang of it quickly if you persevere.

PlinkPlink · 11/05/2019 11:52

I've been umming and ahhing about one of these for about 2 years now.

Thanks for swaying me in the right direction. Now I just need to save up for one 😂😂

TheBeastAwakens · 11/05/2019 12:57

ooh, ok. Thanks @DC3 @ASauv

thought mine was faulty

LokiCat · 12/05/2019 00:14

I've just taken the plunge and ordered the Phillips Lumea with the two attachments.
I got it from amazon so it should be here tomorrow! So excited!
I've been debating about it for ages, but this thread completely swayed me! Thanks GrinGrin

TheBeastAwakens · 12/05/2019 09:08

So annoyed - I don't have the smaller window and can't buy it online so I'm stuck with the 4cm that doesn't work properly Sad

I have the SC2006 model - I only got it last year and already can't get parts.

golightlytoday · 13/05/2019 13:28

I'm just reporting back too.

Just finished the boot camp phase and so impressed.

Full legs, bikini, sides of face, upper lip, chin and under arms (oh and toes!!!) all done.

I have very dark course hair

My legs have maybe 20 odd hairs, quite ossicle that I missed but assume this treatment will have got them.

Underarms have a few very fine hairs

Bikini I'm a treatment behind, the hair at the sides it has worked totally on. The landing strip bit that I wouldn't have had waxed so much so guess hair is stronger hasn't worked as well yet. But not worried as it is totally better than normal.

Face is brilliant. I've always had really hair side of face side burns. And from first treatment it was nearly gone. And now it just hasn't grown back. No pipe cleaner chin hairs have reappeared either.

Apart from a bikini line in 2 weeks that is meant to be me for 6 weeks.

I will of course report back again. But even with the results of some hair back after 2 weeks os better than I got with waxing anywhere!!

DropZoneOne · 19/05/2019 19:33

I've been persuaded! Wish I'd taken the plunge when this thread first appeared, but the choice was a bit overwhelming. I've gone for the Prestige with 3 attachments, and first treatment has been done.

I did my underarms the day after shaving - ouch, ouch - seems any hair gets singed by the light, so not only was it super painful, it left a horrid burnt smell too. So everything else, i did remove the hair properly first.

I don't have loads of hair on my legs after 20 years of waxing, but if this works on my peri-meno face hair, then it will be worth every penny and any other hair-free body parts are a bonus.

PhilipMarlowe · 23/05/2019 12:31

I've been considering this for a while.
There's an 'essential' one on Amazon for £140 but it doesn't have attachments. Will it work on bikini do you think?

SheepGoesBaa · 23/05/2019 16:50

Gin, I'm just after reading your response. I'm going to have to read the instructions again on my device because I don't remember reading being allowed to use it 2/3 times a week. My understanding of the instructions was once every 14 days for up to 6 treatments. I'm going to have to read the instructions again because I think it would be great if I could use it that often or even once a week.

I only ever did one treatment so far two weeks ago on the Friday. I've been shaving since and I plan on using it again tomorrow.

Qweenbee · 23/05/2019 16:58

Awaiting results after my first treatment. Fingers crossed.

LittleMy77 · 23/05/2019 19:19

I've just bought one, based on this thread! Two novice questions

  1. I know it recommends removing hair first - do I need to shave or remove lip hair as a result?? I'm a bit nervous if so as I don't want a stubbly 'tache in the interim Shock

  2. bikini line - any does / don'ts on how far in you can go?

SheepGoesBaa · 23/05/2019 19:46

Gin, I'm home now and had a look at the instructions. My instruction manut says:

Use one time every two weeks for up to six times.

Earslaps · 23/05/2019 23:12

I love my lumea! Bought it last year and used it religiously throughout the summer, then not at all from Late August to March. The hair definitely came back during that time but I had lots of bald spots on my legs, the bikini line only needed shaving every week or so and armpit hairs grew more slowly too.

I started again a few weeks ago. On the two week programme I'm doing legs one week then face/armpits/bikini line the other week. I've just done my fourth session on my face/armpits/bikini line and I've done three on my legs. After four sessions I'll switch to monthly sessions.

The bikini line is barely growing on the sides, but I use a lower setting for underneath and that does grow back a bit but very fine. I didn't shave my armpits for ten days and there were about five hairs of a cm long. I used to get five o clock shadow!! My legs have some bald patches but also some patches where the hair keeps growing. But they are perfectly smooth for about three days now, then a little bit of hair growth. But safe enough to wear skirts for a week.

It was great on holiday last year to only have to shave a couple of times! No razor burn, no rashes, no dark hair ends visible through my very pale skin. Life changing!

Peridot1 · 24/05/2019 08:43

Mine arrived last week and I finally got around to using it yesterday. I found it a bit fiddly. But it could just be me!

So I expected to use it a bit like an epilator - just run it along the leg slowly. But the flash thing confused me! I held the flash down but not sure I will have gotten all the hairs even moving slowly. Surely you don’t go literally by the section the window covers and lift and flash each time? Would take forever surely?

lorribell · 24/05/2019 21:49

I'm just after my 2nd session and my underarm hairs and legs are much slower growing back already which is brilliant.

DropZoneOne · 25/05/2019 13:57

@LittleMy77

I've just done week 2 but my advice would be:

  1. yes, i waxed my top lip, waited a day then lumea the first time. Second time I dry shaved (dust of talc, wash off after) to cut down any longer hairs then lumea. Otherwise the light singes the hair, it smells awful and stings like hell!

  2. outer labia are fine, inner labia not fine. So you can zap a Brazilian/Hollywood.
First time i just did the outside of my knicker line. Second time I've gone to my brazilian line, but had to reduce the intensity right down on the darker areas of skin (and even then the bit over the bone stung!)

DropZoneOne · 25/05/2019 14:00

@Peridot1

I do the same, press down and move very slowly. It took me 10-15 minutes to do each full leg. I assume that, over time, you'll zap the hairs enough to not worry if you don't quite overlap.
