Phillips Lumea has changed my life!

Just that, really.

Been using it since Xmas, every 10-14 days. Haven't removed hair from legs, pits, bikini line or arms in 10 days now and there's practically no regrowth. This isn't a sales pitch btw, I just wish I hadn't spent the last 10 years wanting one but thinking they were too much money!

If you keep doing the IPL eventually the follicle may just give up. As mentioned upthread, 95% of the hair on my legs has not grown back since the IPL I did back then.

Just saw this ad on Instagram:

https://carmelie.com/collections/newly-curated/products/ipl-hair-remover

Anyone tried this brand?

BringmeGin · 19/04/2019 19:08

Not tried that one but it looks identical to my Syosin one from amazon. Can't feedback yet as only on week 2 of doing it. I will though!

gotmychocolateimgood · 20/04/2019 02:19

I've gone back to my lumea after being lazy during the winter. The hair did grow back (not all of it, just patches) eventually but it's still much slower to grow back after shaving. Fine not stubbly. I have pcos and want to wear a swimsuit on holiday in 3.5 months without faffing about shaving all the time. So many holidays I've hidden shaving rash under shorts and felt like crap. Last summer I used the lumea and it was great so I'm sure it will work again.

ASauvignonADay · 20/04/2019 10:51

Can I ask a Q about legs? I've used mine successfully in various places but haven't really bothered with my legs because it takes takes. The thing I hate most about my legs is the dots (don't know what they're called - hair holes? 😂). If I commit to doing the Lumea every 2 weeks, will these dots go/be reduced or will they stay?

AnotherEmma · 20/04/2019 18:51

Has anyone used both the Advanced and Prestige and if so please can you advise on whether you think the Prestige is worth the extra money?

UCOforAC12 · 21/04/2019 23:55

I used electrolysis for years at home and it definitely wasn't permanent! Now looking through this thread for which IPL to try instead.

HappyKatieA · 22/04/2019 08:58

I took the plunge, I've ordered one from Philips, managed to get 15% off as a first time customer. I've ordered the Prestige, with the adapter, it would have been £330, but I paid £283.

Wond3rment · 22/04/2019 10:13

Such an interesting thread. Like others I’ve tried Electrolysis and Laser with limited results.

I have had two separate full Laser treatments on my armpits - still have full growth including the shadow immediately after shaving which has been so disappointing.

I have regular Electrolysis on face, neck and mole hair (

UCOforAC12 · 27/04/2019 15:28

I've just bought the Philips Lumea Prestige BRI953 from Argos for £325 for myself for my birthday!

HappyKatieA · 28/04/2019 08:38

Mine arrived yesterday, so I will be trying it today, I'll report back.
I wanted to say thank you so much to those who have given input to this thread. I've hated being a hairy person for so long, and if this helps at all, even just a little, I think it will make a huge difference to how I feel about my body!

strawberrisc · 28/04/2019 09:49

Thank you all for this thread! I used mine for the first time yesterday on setting 3 as a test. I may go straight to setting 5 next time.

Did legs, bikini line, underarms, ‘tache and chin.

It says to do the next session in 4 weeks. I did the legs 1st but was distracted watching “Dirty John” while I was doing underarms and don’t think I did a very good job. Would it be harmful to do them again today or should I have patience and wait for the 4 weeks?

WheelyCote · 28/04/2019 09:50

Would it do a bristly chin do u think? Getting older is pants

HappyMisfit · 28/04/2019 13:12

I have an SC 2002 so an older model. Has anyone used that?

This thread has given me a kick to try again, I haven’t been dedicated. Just threw out a 5 on my tache chin and bikini line, took 5 mins so no excuses for me to keep going. I try legs if I start seeing results

NewYoiker · 28/04/2019 14:51

I'm very said it's not for use on ginger hair :( 👩‍🦰

ASauvignonADay · 28/04/2019 16:59

@WheelyCote it'll do a bristly chin if the hair is dark :-)

Grumpasaurus · 28/04/2019 23:33

I had to come back to tell you guys. On the back of this thread I bought one and after theee treatments it has already changed my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

ollabear · 29/04/2019 00:09

Iv just bought the prestige BRI953 but the charger unit has a two pin plug on it??
Does that mean it's not for use in this country?? Or does it plug into a shaver adapter???

BocolateChiscuit · 29/04/2019 16:39

Grumpasaurus that’s fantastic news! Would you mind telling me how far apart you did your 3 treatments? I believe you have pcos like I do, and I’m 2 treatments in and worrying it’s not working...

Thank you! Smile

gotmychocolateimgood · 29/04/2019 16:45

I have pcos and it took longer to work than the instructions said it would, but after a few months I was nearly hair free. After shaving regrowth took about a week. This was last summer.
I started using it again last week after having a break over the winter. I think my follicles have 'remembered' or something, because the regrowth has been less and slower after one treatment than when I used the lumea for the first time ever.

Sorry if that's complicated. Main message - use every 2 weeks for as long as you need and it will work even on pcos. I've bought a proper swimsuit without built in shorts for my holiday in August!!! This is a big deal!

SadieContrary · 30/04/2019 03:36

Ollabear, I got mine in France and I use it with an adapter plug. I don't believe it goes into a plug shaver socket

BocolateChiscuit · 30/04/2019 16:19

gotmychoc thank you very much for the reply! I’m only 2 treatments in but having read that people noticed a difference pretty much straight away in some cases I was starting to worry a little. I think because the hair is so coarse and fast-growing I’m not quite able to believe I’ll ever be rid of it! Fingers crossed then. Thank you again. Smile

gotmychocolateimgood · 30/04/2019 17:07

No problem. I thought exactly the same but kept going and it worked, just took longer than for other women. It's brilliant when the hair starts growing back finer and then you start getting patches of no hair at all, totally smooth. It takes ages to grow back after shaving.

Aspergallus · 30/04/2019 17:23

I bought the BR1950 from Philips with a 12% off discount code after reading this thread (about £270). Arrived yesterday and I did my bikini line, oxters and legs immediately as I’d just shaved for swimming.

I am whiter than white with black hair so used the highest setting everywhere (5). Was a little bit hot and nippy but only really as heat built up in the appliance. More comfortable when I took short breaks of a minute or two to let it cool down. Have downloaded the app for my fortnightly reminders. Found it pretty quick and straight-forward. I am going to make it a regular thing after swimming when i’ll have freshly shaved. No redness, swelling or skin irritation. I could have gone out immediately, and nothing has developed since.

Hoping this is the solution to all those spontaneous trips to the pool the kids want. I’ve never been a slave to epilation -I just don’t care that much...but since being a mum, I hate how the norm to be totally hair free stands in the way of joining in with stuff. Bikini line is the biggest issue as no method so far has been free of down time due to rashes, or waiting for length for waxing etc.
