Yes, the neck is my least favourite bit of it too. I'd have liked it more if it had been straight across. I'm not usually a fan of beige but I think it looks nice in this fabric. Shoes are lovely.

peridito · 25/02/2019 08:32

no puckering here ,but....I think the material is too fine to be suitable for pregnancy at this stage .

dress is better from side rather than full on with the shot focussed on the bump !

Neck is a bit straight jacket-y, and the colour adds to that impression.

It does seem better when moving though.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/02/2019 08:36

Actually, I think there is some at the side seam, Peridito And where the beading is on, look down on the side.

Boxlikeahare · 25/02/2019 08:38

I really don't like it at all.

peridito · 25/02/2019 08:38

Goodness knows what I'm doing this morning but while I'm at it ,this is irresistible.

I'm still lukewarm on the caftan but it's unusual and looks much better in motion.

I don't like it at all either, and the clear outline of her popped bellybutton looks a bit ugh.
However, I always notice what good posture she has (probably the yoga). She looks happy and engaged, unlike the photos of their arrival, when she looked overwhelmed and terrified. Harry needs to stop the fiddling with his buttons etc.

Janecon · 25/02/2019 08:42

I think the kaftan is lovely. Beautiful fabric. Not keen on the neckline but the rest is gorgeous.

I feel mixed about the Dior dress, I love that it must be super comfy and heavily pregnant women deserve to feel relaxed and comfortable. On the other hand Meg’s gorgeous Dior shoes are sky high! So much for comfort, I am always amazed at how she is so steady and confident on her beautiful heels so far into pregnancy! Back to the dress - it is culturally appropriate so she can feel relaxed in knowing that she is complimenting her hosts and although she looks fabulous in jewel colors I actually like this shade and the bling. However it is strangely cut and fitted, especially around the breasts. There was comment up thread that it’s to do with her being short waisted but surely a couture brand can solve all those problems? It’s so unflattering of the breasts which are usually two of a pregnant woman’s best assets!

I actually think Meghan seems to be getting more confident and comfortable in her role. Somehow she just looks more relaxed. I am very late catching up on the thread (even “threads” I was so far behind!) and I read what seemed strange comments on why she was even going to Morocco. The main reason in my mind is she and Harry seem so happy and devoted together. I think they much prefer to be a team, especially when representing the country on a trip such as this. I think Harry loves Meghan’s confidence and comfort level with being “on” as then he truly has a partner, when he has spoken of the great responsibility he feels in representing the Queen appropriately.

Also regarding Harry’s lack of academic prowess: Meghan was mocked for asking “is he kind?” before they met but since seeing her on the receiving end of so much vitriol from one side of her family, I think that was a quality she was most likely sincerely looking for. Now she is being attacked for anything and everything, having a safe and loving spouse who always has your back and is kind with all the emotional intelligence we credit Harry having, could explain a lot of the magic that makes their marriage work.

‘Scuse my super long posts! I am hours behind it seems Smile

RuggyPeg · 25/02/2019 08:47

I think she gets every single outfit wrong (barr a couple). I'd love to know who's helping (hindering) her. Are there not advisors saying, we need you to wear British/local designers/something less fucking expensive? Does she get total free rein? Does she get advice and then tell them to get lost and she'll wear what she wants ta very much? I honestly don't get it.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/02/2019 08:52

I definitely prefer meghan’s Daywear on this trip.

peridito · 25/02/2019 08:56

yes ,on closer inspection ,I think you're right Chardonnay .

but is it possible to make and fit over a bumpy ,irregular surface such silky fine flowy fabric and produce something that has flat seams ?

Guess what - I'm no dressmaker or couture ( if that's the correct term ) afficiando !

queenofarles · 25/02/2019 08:59

I think she wears what she wants , the choices are bit odd and random. Focus is more on designer names than actual good fitting clothes. I think if I were in a similar position . I’d leave all the expensive couture dresses till after the baby arrives, that way , clothes can actually be made to properly fit her figure. This far along even Dior bespoke looks ill fitting. Plus It’s such a waste, I doubt if can be altered to fit her non pregnant figure .

EstrellaDamn · 25/02/2019 09:03

Not to be indelicate, but that Dior dress makes her boobs look really weird!

youllhavehadyourtea · 25/02/2019 09:04

Is helen Mirren wearing the same dress (at the Oscars) that Kate wore?

The strange raspberry ripple/breast binding one?

It looks fab on Helen! ( Didn't like it on Kate!)

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/02/2019 09:07

My favourite guilty pleasure is watching the couture videos on you tube, most houses have the making of a collection films. Try Chanel’s and admire just what can be done with some fabric and a lot of thread.

Rhubarbisevil · 25/02/2019 09:10

I suspect that couture clothes are ordered in advance and she is growning faster than expected, hence a dress ordered 2 months ago will hang awkwardly - Meghan needs a seamstress who can alter her clothes on a daily basis. That, or a trip to Isabella Oliver.

Do you think this is why Kate always went on “maternity leave” at 6 months?

queenofarles · 25/02/2019 09:10

Helen’s dress is Schiaparelli,

ElspethFlashman · 25/02/2019 09:13

"the stitching looks a bit Per Una" is my favourite insult ever.

I would think couture houses would have samples for high profile clients to wear and return. MM is heavily pregnant but I wonder if this dress is really flowing and not altered for pregnancy. It’s tight across the middle because you can see her belly button.

queenofarles · 25/02/2019 09:17

Ordering a dress from the real couture houses, Chanel , Valentino, Dior, they altleast need a minimum of 2 months for non embroidery and atleast 2 fittings to get it right, perhaps sometimes they can speed things up. I’m still trying to figure out how Lady Gaga managed to wear that pink feather Valentino gown, I bet it needed loads of work, so perhaps after doing the magazine rounds, they fitted to her measurements instead of making a new one, it must cost atleast 200k to make a new one.

user1457017537 · 25/02/2019 09:17

I really can’t see the Royal family paying full price with all the publicity the couture houses receive.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/02/2019 09:31

The dress must have been ordered a long time in advance, that’s why I suspect it had to be let out which spoiled the arm seams and caused the odd welling at the side arm/ breast area.

It’s madness going this high end for a unpredictably changing body.

I must stress though that I’m only having an opinion on the dress, not on Meghan who looked lovely.

ElspethFlashman · 25/02/2019 09:35

I'm pretty sure Kate was really really far along at that St Paul's Cathedral thing with the black coat dress and the first appearance of the tanzanite earrings. She was about 8 months.

Actually there was another earlier St Paul's Cathedral one with the first one, a champagne coat dress. She was massive in that too.

But perfectly tailored and looked very sleek.
