Forgive my ignorance, but are skinny jeans still in, or straight leg, or what? Thanks! :) (Living in Brighton in my thirties, if age or location makes a difference!)

@slcol you look bloody gorgeous!

OrigamiZoo · 20/02/2019 20:25

Interesting thread, I'm looking for straight jeans which are as well fitting hold me in like skinnies but aren't as tight around the ankle, can't find them anywhere!

@slcol you look bloody gorgeous!

Here, here!

slcol you are foxaaaayyyy. 😍

Johnny Q is a good quality Italian jeans brand here that is exceptionally good at fit and sells a fair range of styles. A local independent boutique sells them, but I've never seen them elsewhere, so their distribution clearly needs a helping hand.

I live and die in Gap Best Girlfriend Jeans, but size down because they're a generous cut. They're not skinny but definitely not straight legged either. Also gave several pairs of wide legged ankle jeans from Next, Gap and M&S which will be brought out in the Spring.

BrassicaBabe · 21/02/2019 10:33

@theharlotletter how do you wear your girlfriend jeans? Especially in rubbish weather. Rolled up or down and what shoes/books? Ta Smile

theharlotletter · 21/02/2019 11:06

I wear them with a very narrow roll, sometimes just turn them up once so just have a sliver of ankle showing, and wear with Adidas Superstars, low heeled shoe-boots or flat biker boots.

Richlyfruited · 21/02/2019 12:27

I've worn relaxed skinny and slim jeans rolled up for years now. I'm petite but skinnies look utterly terrible on me as I have short legs and 'runners' thighs Grin

I work with students who are all still wearing the same skinny jeans uniform with trainers.

I'm really, really bored of this look now....it's definitely time fashion moved on but I don't (yet) see much evidence of wide legs or bootcuts catching on!

Hellohappiness · 21/02/2019 13:02

I went in next the other day and they must have had 30 different types of jeans, all skinny or super skinny.

ElspethFlashman · 21/02/2019 13:27

Yeah I was in New Look this morning and it was wall to wall Super Skinny. They must still sell, that's for sure. The young thing that was helping me was wearing spray on jeans up to her bellybutton. Cropped top with it and an inch of skin showing in the middle. Not a look for those of us over 21 though.

LoubyLou1234 · 21/02/2019 13:35

I'm so not suited to skinnies and so bored of them being everywhere with little other choice. My calves are curvy I just look odd in them!
I already have issues with jeans that the waist is always bigger when the size fits my thighs/bum. I like straightcut (but never can find them!) they cover my calves as do bootcut/flare but I've been wearing those forever.

BrassicaBabe · 21/02/2019 13:38

Thanks @theharlotletter they are definitely more comfortable than my skinnies. But I never feel like I've got them "quite right"

Angelinthenightx · 21/02/2019 15:33

I dont wear them im always in a dress but going by youtube etc skinny ones & high waist ones seem to be most popular.

Ellapaella · 21/02/2019 15:36

Skinny jeans are everywhere. I don't know how people can say they aren't 'in' - the shops are packed full of them and I see dozens of people in them every day.
Personally I'm a bit bored of them (but still wear occasionally) and prefer straight jeans with a raw hem or boyfriend or Mom style jeans.
In winter I wear them with either trainers or my DM's with a bit of the jean turned up to just above the boot.

Quintella · 21/02/2019 15:46

They're in the shops but they're not in fashion so much. Not that that matters if people still like them and want to buy them.

theharlotletter · 21/02/2019 18:30

I wasn't sure how to wear jeans with ankle boots so went on Pinterest and studied ways to best cuff your jeans and taught myself. Slightly cuffing them looks much more stylish than tucking them into a boot or letting your jeans just fall over and cover the top of the boot.

BrassicaBabe · 21/02/2019 18:59

Jeans always look nice online with stilettos. But generally life is too short for that kind of faff Hmm

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 21/02/2019 19:46

Oh no I think grey hair is the single most ageing thing a person can do, it always has that coarse texture as well that adds to it (I'm talking about men too)

I think a block colour, too dark dye job is far more ageing.

XingMing · 21/02/2019 19:53

Once your hair starts to grey, your complexion changes with it. So the colours that once looked great begin to wash you out. Actually, now I'm officially old, I think the most ageing thing of all is a face full of makeup tricks. Foundation becomes a mask, and other make up settles noticeably into your creases and pores. So personally, I wear much less and look for sheer veiling coverage. But attention to skin care and general health really make the difference between looking old, and good for your age.

LaFreaka · 22/02/2019 11:18

I wear less make up too - hate to see a mask of foundation on skin - ....even worse when it settles into my creases.

Floisme · 22/02/2019 11:31

Xing and I have talked about this before but I've just ditched my foundation. I might as well have been painting my face with magnolia emulsion, but I had to go without make up for a month before I could see it.
