And I shouldn't have to say this anymore but will do so for any newbies - let's keep our critiquing to the clothes and not the women wearing them.

Interesting dress for Leti in Morocco; not sure I like it but can't work out why.

She looks a lot like Rania there too

Rhubarbisevil · 16/02/2019 15:39

The photo taken of Diana when she is at Balmoral after her honeymoon is heartbreaking in retrospect.

Notmyrealname855 · 16/02/2019 16:20

Diana really was beautiful, she looked great in rubbish clothes even - in pictures you can tell she was equally warm and vivacious :(

Lee Radziwill has died. We were discussing her in previous threads.

pinkground202 · 16/02/2019 17:38

I was just coming on to post about Lee Radziwill, such a stylish woman. The end of an era. H

beanaseireann · 16/02/2019 17:52

Lee Radziwill- RIP
There's a woman who lived a life.
Highs and lows.
I'd love to read her memoirs/autobiography - has she written one ?
I read her daughter in law's book a few years ago.

LaurenOrdering · 16/02/2019 17:55

Little known fact about Lee Radziwill's 2nd husband Prince Stanisław Albrecht Radziwiłł: he was a descendant of King George I. (5x Great Grandfather if my maths is correct.)

user1457017537 · 16/02/2019 18:33

Luciana Pignotelli anyone?

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/02/2019 18:39

One portrait that caught my eye today was this rather poignant one of Princess Louise, arguably Victoria's most interesting daughter, on her wedding day. Apparently hers wasn't a happy marriage.

It really is the end of an era with Lee Radziwill's death. There is a vague British royal connection though - one of her husbands was allegedly the illegitimate son of a royal. Possibly the Duke of Kent? (HM's uncle, not the Wimbledon duke!)

OP posts:
Paradyning · 16/02/2019 19:04

Which husband Queen??
I just read that one of his other alleged children was Raine McCorquodale, I.e Acid Raine.

Paradyning · 16/02/2019 19:13

Ooo I found it

His second child, Michael Temple Canfield, was allegedly born to American socialite Kiki Preston. Preston, known for her drug addiction and referred to as "the girl with the silver syringe," is said to have given birth to Canfield in 1926 after a long and dangerous affair. Both Prince George's brother, Edward, the Duke of Windsor and Laura, Duchess of Marlborough, had said that they believed this.

LaurenOrdering · 16/02/2019 19:21

@QueenOfTheAndals it was the Duke of Windsor who thought Michael Canfield (Lee's 1st husband) was the son of his younger brother the Duke of Kent.
The Duke of Kent was a playboy & was rumoured to have had a few secret children.
So if Canfield was an illegitimate royal child that would be Lee's first related by marriage link to UK royalty. Lee's second link would be through Prince Stanislaw mentioned previously.

Changing subject slightly are you reading one of Seneca's recommendations: Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone? I've just started & have reached Chapter 5 & I'm really enjoying it.

That is a poignant portrait of Princess Louise. I read that her & her husband the then Marquis of Lorne were happy in the beginning, until their difficulty in having children & Victoria's overbearing/interference caused problems.
However Louise & her husband did manage to reconcile & be happy again.
Queen Vic comes across as a well meaning/intentioned but bossy, interfering Mafia Mother.

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/02/2019 19:38

That's quite a close link! Whichever brother it was, it makes him a first cousin of HM. And if the story about Raine is true then the same applies to her. I forgot that Raine's mother was Barbara Cartland - now she was a dame and a half!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 16/02/2019 19:44

And here's something I never knew about Dame Barbara:

"In 1955, Cartland was elected a councillor on Hertfordshire County Council[7] as a Conservative and served for nine years. During this time she campaigned successfully for nursing home reform, improvement in the salaries of midwives, and the legalization of education for the children of Gypsies."

Did anyone watch that documentary about Raine that aired last year or the year before? It was called something like Diana's Wicked Stepmother but it was actually fairly interesting. Raine was a member of Westminster City Council from her early 20s and took an interest in environmental planning and building conservation. Later in life she got a job working at harrods!

marsgirl happy to do an email interview if needed. Though i dont have the funds to do much copycat buying!

Mmmhmmokdear · 16/02/2019 21:11

Re the Marquis of Lorne - wasn't he supposed to be a closet homosexual?

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/02/2019 21:15

That's what I heard @Mmmhmmokdear, and that she later took a lover.

I saw that Raine Spencer doc. She took to redecorating Althorp and had all the furniture covered in gilt and had all the solid wood floors covered in carpet. It was quite a look.

queenofarles · 17/02/2019 05:52

Good book about Lee and Jackie is the Taraborrelli bio . very stylish sisters and although their Aaron slim worthy holiday pics around Amalfi paint A very close bond between the sisters but it was nothing but rivalry and jealousy between them, anything lee had Jackie wanted and vice versa, Onassis was Lee’s former lover and there were some strong rumors that JFK had an affair with Lee.

Mmmhmmokdear · 17/02/2019 07:33

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47148541 I know it's not fashion, but now the BBC are getting in on the Meghan Bashing. Not cool.
