WHy did I ever give up black clothing?

I am currently sorting through my closet and decluttering etc.

Everything in black looks bloody lovely. I have wasted loads of money over the years trying navy, charcoal, beige etc. Nothing looks better than black frankly.

Anyone else having this dawning realisation? Have we been sold a crock for years?

I also love black. It’s always a winner for me

SuperstarDJ · 29/01/2019 12:57

I love black but I also have non-black clothes that I love. There are colours that suit me more and make me look more ‘alive’ than black does but nor does black make me look like a washed out corpse which I think is a lot of people’s fear. I guess it just depends on an individuals colouring and personal preference.

PinkHeart5914 · 29/01/2019 12:58

I loves black clothing 😍 I will never give it up

I don’t get the beige or grey thing to be honest, why is it Better than black

Coffeepot72 · 29/01/2019 13:17

This suddenly dawned on me last year - I've tried alternatives to black, but nothing looks as good. I must have wasted a small fortune, particularly in winter, trying to co ordinate navy/dark brown/deep purple work trousers with boots/bags/coats, whereas if I'd just stuck to black, it would all have been fine ...

I also love grey/charcoal, but black is definitely my main colour this winter.

JaneJeffer · 29/01/2019 13:18

I love black. Navy does nothing for me.

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2019 13:31

I find navy flatters me better but I mainly wear black. I tend to wear navy more in the summer.
I like to wear black with a contrasting colour, even if it is just jeans and a black top. It makes shoe buying easier - just black ones generally.
I love charcoal as a colour. Goes great with black.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 29/01/2019 13:32

I think black is back in. I used to find that a grey jumper looked much more modern/fashionable than a black one (I mean, 5-7 years ago!) and then navy-blue, but now black looks way better than anything else. And navy suits me, but I still think black just looks cool right now.

Intothedenofvipers · 29/01/2019 13:35

Is black the new black? Hmm

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/01/2019 13:39

Black is amazing as it's so practical but yet looks uber-chic. I like to mix things up with some colour (for example, a bright green leather jacket that everyone always compliments me on) but black is excellent as a base for a capsule wardrobe.

I don't like 'faddy' colours (I'm looking at you mustard!) and tend to stick with black, red and white for work and gym clothes.

Just to prove my black commitment, today I'm wearing black leather leggings with a charcoal T-shirt and a charcoal Burberry cashmere jumper dress over the top. Shiny black trenchcoat, studded black leather gloves and black/red/white Stella Mc scarf were added when I was outside earlier. With multi-coloured leather Paul Smith trainers (black shoelaces of course).

NigellasGuest · 29/01/2019 13:40

I love black! I have way too much.

HundredMilesAnHour · 29/01/2019 13:40

Although Vogue are saying head-to-toe beige is HUGE for 2019.

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2019 13:41

I have to add that I have worn a lot of black for most of my life and never gave it up.

JaneJeffer · 29/01/2019 13:42

You need to post that on here http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3493330-Aibu-to-be-THAT-old-person-lighthearted Hundred Grin

flowery · 29/01/2019 13:43

Well I gave up black because I look hideous in it!

SteelRiver · 29/01/2019 13:50

At one time I wore black, black and more black. I still love it and much of my wardrobe is black, it's just so versatile and easy. I'm trying to expand my horizons a little, however, and now have some base items in navy, charcoal & burgundy. I'm slimmer now and think the new (to me) colours are flattering, but I'll never give up black.

WineNotTea · 29/01/2019 14:02

When I was much heavier than I am now I used to dress top to toe in black, as I’ve lost weight (and gone full on silver grey haired) I’ve slowly moved away from black to navy which I think suits me more. I do still have plenty of black in my work wardrobe but now pair my black trousers with a bright red or a (varying shades of) grey top.
Strangely I’ve been never been one for black winter coats or jackets, always grey and now navy as well.

MaMisled · 29/01/2019 14:09

So interesting. I gave up black 4 years ago and have enjoyed being more colourful but, just this week actually, I'm thinking black is so, so gorgeous.

I'm going back to black!

Floisme · 29/01/2019 14:13

I pretty much gave it up for about 20 years, both on my top and bottom half. I now have a couple of black skirts and jeans/trousers again and I think I can get away with a very washed out black near my face. But I’m never going to look great in it and I don’t find it that versatile either. It’s a shame as I really like clothes that are interesting shapes and sometimes black shows off the shape better than any other colour. But there it is.

Scandaloso · 29/01/2019 14:25

In my opinion nothing looks as stylish as black. Even if some colour guru told me I'd be more suited to pastels (heaven forfend!) I would still wear black as it makes me feel good. And wearing what you feel good in is very important.

I hate (most) patterns and I hate that summertime thing where people wear jazzy prints in jazzy colours. I do wear some colours, like red and certain shades of green, but black will always be my one true love.

Vogue are saying head-to-toe beige is HUGE for 2019

Beige does not like me at all. I'd look like I was ready to be tipped in a plague pit if I wore head to toe beige.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/01/2019 14:34

I'm a bright winter with neutral skin tones so I look just dandy in black, and you would have to prise my black jeans from my cold, dead fingers.

However, there is beige and there is beige. I thought I couldn't do beige until I tried on a MaxMara Camel coloured coat and it looked fantastic. I was most discombobulated!

Vintagewannabe · 29/01/2019 16:01

I’m going back to black too. I’ve gone through the last 10 years thinking colour is best and black doesn’t suit. Believing what they tell you in magazine tv shows about it being dull. But lately I’ve tried a few black pieces and loved them!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/01/2019 16:10

I love black. Beige makes me look awful. I also suit navy and darker shades of grey, but not pale grey. However, I tend to always buy slightly patterned skirts and trousers eg tweed or houndstooth or a tartan skirt etc etc, because I think they tend to look more expensive than plain black. That means it's easiest to buy plain black tops to go with the textured/patterned bottoms. And I tend not to go for black coats.

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2019 16:24

That's what I do - range of skirts in different patterns and lots of black tops. I sometimes wear a black skirt with a colour top.

Babymamamama · 29/01/2019 16:29

YANBU I always go back to black.
