Here we go again, and as always say what you like about the clothes but keep it civil re the wearers of said clothes!

Apparently not @Twisique. Paul Burrell said they weren't on speaking terms when Diana died as Frances didn't approve of her choices when it came to men and had called her a whore Confused I know he isn't the most reliable of sources but I don't know why he'd lie about that.

Tis I!

LaurenOrdering · 26/01/2019 20:41

Clionba I was thinking Rosa Parks too.
Though I like the suffragette names of Emmeline, Christabel & Sylvia. Though prefer Emelie & Sylvie.
Sophia/Sofia is an old royal name meaning wisdom.
And Isadora would be a nod to Meghan's DM.
Are there any royals called Eliza?

When VB was expecting her last baby, there was a guess the baby name thread on here. (Under a different username back then) I was the only one who suggested Harper. I like to think (humour myself) that Victoria was reading the thread & loved my suggestion Smile
So Meg how about Seraphina?

kooshbin · 26/01/2019 20:53

Andrew and Sarah didn't have to go too far back in royal history to find more unusual names for their daughters. Eugenie was a cousin of Philip, and Beatrice was a daughter of Victoria. There must be other names, less common these days, in all those lineages. Though it would take someone much more knowledgeable than me to find them.

strangerthongs, I do like Eleanor. Though my first thought was of Eleanor of Aquitaine, who was a feisty woman, and then of the movie The Lion in Winter where she was played by Katherine Hepburn, who was also a feisty woman. But the American connection to yet another feisty woman would be good.

bonniebanks · 26/01/2019 20:53

My youngest is Rosa, was going to be Charlotte but then William and Kate used it so we went with Rosa so I'm hoping they don't use it.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2019 21:03

I said at the beginning that I think Meghan would make a statement with; especially a daughter’s name. However, Meghan has never put and out said I am a black woman, as far as I am aware. Rather she identifies with being biracial, and her quote; ironically from her Dad “draw your own box”. Hence thinking she may not got with a Rosa Parks. I think more likely a feminist or perhaps a female pioneer in education.?

Daisypie · 26/01/2019 21:05

I think they will go fairly traditional. Anything too 'out there' will be another stick for the media to bash Meghan with.

Quantumblue · 26/01/2019 21:06

There has not been a Victoria in this generation.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 21:07

I don't think they'll pick a statement name.

SenecaFalls · 26/01/2019 21:27

Eugenie's second name is Victoria.

LaurenOrdering · 26/01/2019 21:28

A bit of Swedish & royal trivia especially for @mathanxiety
ABBA's Dancing Queen" saw its first live and domestic performance on 18 June 1976, televised on Swedish TV during an all-star gala staged by Kjerstin Dellert at the Royal Swedish Opera in honour of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and his bride-to-be, Silvia Sommerlath, who were married the next day.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2019 21:30

One Royal name which hasn’t been used is Helena (granddaughter of Queen Victoria).
Princess Eugenie has it as one of her middle names

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2019 21:32

Victoria is too iconic a name to be given as a first name

frugalkitty · 26/01/2019 21:34

I have an Eleanor, it's an excellent choice! Grin more so as Meg and I share a name too (not the Meghan).

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/01/2019 21:35

@CurlyWurlyTwirly I can see a lot of young Philip in Harry.

OP posts:
LaurenOrdering · 26/01/2019 21:42

That photo CurlyWurlyTwirly posted earlier re the resemblance of Harry to Phillip.
Well it's blatantly obvious that HMQ & DoE are 'really' his parents. (obviously I'm being flippant)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2019 21:42

Vintage pictures of HM till the 1960s
Absolutely loads I had never seen before. She was gorgeous in her 30s

Clionba · 26/01/2019 21:43

What a gorgeous film, Curly! Harry definitely has the look of Philip. HM was only 21, not much older than Diana as a bride. She looks gorgeous, so lively and happy 😊

Hairydilemma · 26/01/2019 21:43

Hello all, thank you Queen.

I love the name Helena, it was on my list. Also think Rosa and Eleanor are good shouts.

Diana's family tree includes a Georgiana and a Henrietta, both of which might be a bit fancy for M&H’s taste, and an Alice which is also a royal name. Alice Sussex is a bit ‘s’y though.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2019 21:48

The Royal Family sailing to South Africa in 1947

I love the commentator’s accent. Such old school BBC

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2019 21:49

Georgiana is a fabulous name. Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire was a rebel & a fashion leader. Very appropriate!

Clionba · 26/01/2019 21:50

The engagement photos are great, everything in the 40s had a patina of glamour, didn’t it? I love the style. Liz and Phil look absolutely smitten with each other!

OlennasWimple · 26/01/2019 22:00

Placemarking for the gownage (and name) discussion Smile

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 22:07

Well the baby will have a second cousin called Savannah so maybe they'll go that route and eschew all the frilly royal names.
