Here we go again, and as always say what you like about the clothes but keep it civil re the wearers of said clothes!

Some more photos from twitter. I don't know why she isn't wearing maternity maybe it is so she can rewear post hopefully but the cut is all wrong over the bump it makes her look dumpy which she definitely isn't.

It’s not normal for 30 somethings to be wearing Oscar De La Renta :( I know they’re supposed to “look” royal, fancy etc but is there not a middle ground?

FWIW I’m not a royalist! I just like looking at the clothes eg Max, but can’t get behind the younger generation here. I wouldn’t want to hear a speech from any of the Fab Four, they don’t do anything (please don’t flame!)

Like today’s dress but the price?! Confused

LuciaSpain · 01/02/2019 14:08

Same here lisbethsw, I like looking at the clothes but I've no real interest in the people.

I think modern royalty walks a very fine line with public support. Thinking back to my grandmother's time, royalty was to be looked up to, blue blood, there by the grace of god etc. Now and since the media stopped toeing the line with the royals, they really are not admired or revered like they used to be. With austerity, the public could grow very tired of the younger generations laziness and excess spending very quickly. I think HMQ is holding the whole thing together at the moment.

How come Harry hasn't been told to cut down on the high spending on non British fashion. It just doesn't look good. Taxpayers money.
Why Harry you say?
Well he's the Royal she's married to and hopefully she'd hear/ listen to what he was saying, if she won't take advice from the men in grey.
Diana wore a lot of UK (and some Irish) designers, helping to promote their fashion industries.
Kate has more savvy and does a lot more to promote British fashion and wears high street too.

Interesting blind item regarding Meghan’s dress spending...

ElspethFlashman · 01/02/2019 14:19

But it's a choice.

And it's SUCH bad form.

Brexit austerity is looming, firms are leaving, the NHS is bleeding staff, and she's spending the price of a house on ill fitting frocks, 80% of which we'll never ever see again.

If she wants to portray the image that the Sussexes are living in an ivory tower, she's going the right way about it.

I don't enjoy her style. And I don't enjoy the cost. And I'm afraid I don't enjoy or much respect HER as a result. Harry doesn't give the appearance of spending much (though of course he may have a crazy expensive speedboat hobby for all we know) so it's her reputation that's damaged, not his.

And for all the RF's historic moaning and huffing and puffing and indignation about the press focusing on what they're wearing rather than the charity they were visiting, she seems determined to spend literally as much as humanly possible by as many non-UK brands as possible, thereby making her clothes a headline.

ajandjjmum · 01/02/2019 14:23

Remember - 'what Meghan wants, Meghan gets'.

It's not taxpayer's money spent on her clothes, it's Charles' money. Bet he's having to have a lie down again today! Grin

(I actually like the dress).

Scandaloso · 01/02/2019 14:27

elemenopeee I read that too but had been hesistating about posting it Grin

SenecaFalls · 01/02/2019 14:28

I'm here for the couture. If I want to watch high street fashion, I'll just go to my city center and plonk myself down in my favorite outdoor cafe for an hour at lunchtime. Well, not today; it's a bit chilly, but most days I could.

So I say, bring it on, Meg.

LuciaSpain · 01/02/2019 14:31

I'd like to think the whole Jessica/Meghan scheme of cashing in on the clothes isn't real, she'd surely never be that stupid.

I reckon she's getting as much Givenchy etc as she can in her wardrobe before Charles loses it!!

mrscampbellblackreturns · 01/02/2019 14:32

I love couture but she is misreading this situation very badly indeed.

ElspethFlashman · 01/02/2019 14:32

Seneca there's a middle ground. When Kate got married it was all Reiss and Zara. She mixed other bits in, but LK Bennett was about as fancy as she got. And we knew well she got loads in Bicester Village.

She wore the same pair of shoes for about 2 years!

Yet she still accumulated vast (some might say disgusting) amounts of clothes. But she gets remarkably little criticism about it. Because she didn't pull the piss, to be blunt about it.

Megan is ROYALLY pulling the piss, imo.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 01/02/2019 14:34

I think it is almost worse that it is maternity clothes she is spending so much on as she will get so little wear out of them.

Of course she may have them tailored afterwards and re-wear them for the next 20 years.

frugalkitty · 01/02/2019 14:36

I think there's a middle ground that someone needs to nudge MM towards. I don't expect to see her (or Kate or the others) in M&S day in day out, but I do think they need to 'sense the tone' and reign in the spending. Posters points about Brexit etc are valid, and they will be seen as increasingly out of touch and by association, irrelevant if they don't at least channel that spending towards UK designers, up and coming designers and the high street.

LuciaSpain · 01/02/2019 14:38

I love couture too but take the dress from today, if that was H&M for £20 I wouldn't have been surprised, it was fine but nothing special. I think lots of her clothes are like that.

It's how she has to have head to toe couture when really a key piece could be just as nice. It's just excessive.

Kate mixes it up and goes designer for say a coat dress or a wow evening dress and she gets away with it by doing that.

AlsoBling2 · 01/02/2019 14:44

I honestly can't get worked up about the cost of the dress. She likes clothes, this was.obvious long before Harry came along, and i know lots of women who buy expensive clothes as standard and wouldn't dream of buying a few basics in m&s, never mind Next or H&M.

Kate's coat dresses must cost a fortune and no one cares. I certainly don't.

Love the dress. Hate it as maternity wear. Really hope she's planning to wear again post baby!!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/02/2019 14:44

@ellemenopee
I’ve heard versions of that too.
Would explain why the clothes don’t fit properly and she wears the wrong clothes for the season. She’s promoting s/s19 in January
Eg that Ill fitting summer dress to the Royal Variety Old People’s home.
Likewise the blush Brandon Maxwell on Wednesday, with bare legs.

Can she & Harry be so short of ready cash?
I guess income has never been an issue before for the Wales’s.
PC probably gives them a reasonable allowance from the Duchy of Cornwall.
Kate’s parents are millionaires so she will have her own money.
Meghan probably thought she was marrying the equivalent of a tech billionaire, but actually most royals are like aristos; asset rich; cash poor.
So she sadly gives the impression of cashing in on her fame in the US.
Eg to fund the internal renovations of Frogmore. ( all the interior designer stuff)

Scandaloso · 01/02/2019 14:48

If Brexit does end up with no deal and the economy hits the skids people really will be peeved at the sight of royals wafting about in new £5000 outfits at minor day engagements. If she hired a talented stylist who knew how to mix the ££ pieces with the ££££ pieces (she really needs to have a break up chat with Jessica) she’d look so much better and save loads of money.

EmGee · 01/02/2019 14:48

I was listening to a report on BBC radio about the famine in Yemen while simultaneously looking at the cost of Meghan's outfit today.

I think she's had her head turned by becoming a duchess and a wealthy FIL who forks out for couture.

Stinkytoe · 01/02/2019 14:51

I have always enjoyed these threads because it was all about the clothes, not the women in them. Please don’t ruin it.

Bloominglovely · 01/02/2019 14:58

Kate reportedly had numerous pairs of the same shoes. She really wasn’t wearing the same pair for years 😀

LuciaSpain · 01/02/2019 15:00

I don't think anyone wants to have a deliberate go at any of the people but the cost of those clothes does impact how we perceive them.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/02/2019 15:00

Meghan & Oscar de la Renta
Apart from the b&w evening dress, I think Meghan’s odlr dresses have been a miss.
They are designed for someone much taller

Meghan’s coat was from somewhere called William Vintage
It’s vintage couture pieces; but looks interesting.
I’d like to know more about her coat; which was from there.

ajandjjmum · 01/02/2019 15:07

I'd forgotten the black and white evening dress - I thought she looked stunning in that.
