Here we go again, and as always say what you like about the clothes but keep it civil re the wearers of said clothes!

She looks smart and I’m sorry if the Dundonians are offended.

This one certainly isn’t! It’s nice to see the Cambridges here, we usually get Princess Anne 😂

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/01/2019 16:09

@florascotia2 thanks for that background to the Black Watch, despite being a social history geek, I didn’t know that background. My Great Uncle was one of the Black Watch killed at Loos.

florascotia2 · 29/01/2019 16:20

Minder I am very sorry indeed to hear that. So many young lives cut tragically short.
Over 4,000 killed from Dundee alone, according to this website (please excuse me if you know of it already): www.greatwardundee.com/#fndtn-sixlives

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/01/2019 16:23

@flora, thank you for that, I’ll have a read of it. I’ve done a lot of work in my family tree on my dad’s side, and find it all fascinating

mikado1 · 29/01/2019 16:31

Meghan did wear a tricolour to Ireland -forest green shirt, shirt, white jacket and rust heels! - and most loved it! But no, aside from the literal dressing, I wouldn't go for this outfit.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/01/2019 16:43

She looks smart and I’m sorry if the Dundonians are offended.

But but but... the teeny tiny Dundonian lady is wearing tartan herself?

Bloominglovely · 29/01/2019 16:48

Were W&K holding hand in one of those photos? Or are my eyes deceiving me?

The coat is fine, nothing amazing as usual. But I hadn’t thought how wearing tartan visiting Scotland might be interpreted and yes I agree it is akin to wearing Aran jumpers visiting Ireland or bowler hat in the UK. Or carrrying a jar of jellied eels around London or a baguette in Paris Grin

Agree the extensions look like they have been reduced. Maybe my theory of the headband distracting people from her hair was right after all 😀

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/01/2019 16:58

I do love the latest version of Kate's coat as I think it has a bit of an edge to it.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/01/2019 17:08

It’s a great coat @queen but it would date terribly with that huge scale print. For £4;500 that’s unacceptable.
Kate’s clothes may be expensive, classic and sometimes boring. But she can wear outfits 6 years apart, like today.

LaPampa · 29/01/2019 17:09

She looks fine but a bit cliched. I am sure she could have found something equally warm and smart and with Scottish roots without resorting to tartan. I usually love (most) of what she wears but I think she needs to abandon literal dressing now.

More pic of the day in hello including some of a walk about!

WhitherShallIWander · 29/01/2019 17:16

I love what Kate is wearing but I’m not Scottish so can’t really comment on any symbolism.

Clionba · 29/01/2019 17:28

This used to irk my late mother beyond measure. She was from Fife and used to get annoyed with the Royals donning tartan when going north of the border! Wearing their kilts as soon as they hit Alba! She said "I don't wear a flamenco dress when we go to Spain!". She would have had a laugh at Kate's coat and the lack of imagination!

Iwantdaffodils · 29/01/2019 17:30

That pub in the photo is the Fife Arms in Braemar, nowhere near Fife in spite of its name!

I'm happy to see Kate in tartan, especially the Black Watch for the local connection, and I think most people here will be too, if they notice at all what she's wearing.
Certainly there are successful designers here but for a brief visit I didn't expect anything than her usual smart but unadventurous look.

Clionba · 29/01/2019 18:02

The fabulous diamond drop earrings, worn by Meghan in Fiji (with the gorgeous blue caped dress) were a loan from a Chinese jeweller and are valued at £500,000!
Pretty damn fine bling Wink.

CreakyBlinder · 29/01/2019 18:25

I don't know, I guess some people would be happy to see her in Black Watch. I feel it speaks to how simple they believe the little people to be.

mrscampbellblackreturns · 29/01/2019 18:37

I think Kate actively chooses not to be a clothes horse. She doesn't want all the attention on what she wears. And to be fair she gets criticised when she re-wears stuff as people find it dull but then look at how much criticism Meghan has received for spending £££ on her clothes.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/01/2019 18:58

Thread about Baby Sussex title
They just need to pop over to us over here for all obscure Royal Questions!

Haworthia · 29/01/2019 19:04

Kate was carrying an unnecessarily tiny bag today! My actual purse is wider than that thing.

BartonHollow · 29/01/2019 19:09

@CurlyWurlyTwirly

I've gone over and done my best

I'm not sure they'll get it

Quite shocked at the person who doesn't understand how the Queen is the Queen though

She isn't the only Queen England has had GrinConfusedHmm

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/01/2019 19:19

I know! I thought it was common knowledge that HM has no brother! Although there's that rumour but I doubt it's true.

CreakyBlinder some of your posts have been very funny.
Clionba the comment regarding your mother and a flamenco dress when visiting SpainGrin
Both Meghan and the Queen donned green when visiting Ireland !

CreakyBlinder · 29/01/2019 19:20

@mrscampbellblack that's totally not the impression you get if you look at the Harper's link above. Some of her dresses are stunning! I think she does enjoy clothes; she's just far too literal, to the point of ridiculousness (and actually, laziness).

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/01/2019 19:25

Donning green is one thing @beanaseireann, but at least they didn't dress like a leprechaun!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 29/01/2019 19:26

Comment of the day has to go to @CreakyBlinder for calling prince Charles "a mad old twat" 😂
