Previous thread.

Usual rules - say what you like about the clothes, keep it civil re the wearers.

Speaking of the QM, here are some of her best quotes. I liked her response to the man who warned her against hiring homosexuals - "but then we'd have to go self-service"!

Cute photo of even Elizabeth Taylor being star struck and sneaking a photo of the QM

Interesting article about Queen Mary who had the Gimmies

VamillaSugar · 11/01/2019 08:36

That’s what we want to see next: Kate in a turban a la Margot 😄

Spudlet · 11/01/2019 08:36

I was just thinking that too - if Kate had visited a similar charity (as of course she has, many times) she would wear something expensive too. I wonder if part of the reason that people notice less is that she's been doing it for a long time, so we're used to seeing her dressed a certain way, and also she now has a good bank of appropriate clothing that she can 'recycle' (🙄 at that term as many others have said too!) so it's not like she has a new thing every time. Megan doesn't have that yet, and even if she did this is her first pregnancy so she would need new clothes anyway. And she's still new to this Duchess business, so we're not fully used to seeing her all Royal-ed up, compared to her previous ripped jeans type style.

That coat is clearly huuuuugely expensive but it can be worn again - I may not like it on a personal level but I think it has a classic enough cut, with a bit of a sixties vibe, which will make it rewearable. A bag can be reused of course, her dress was reasonably priced (for a Royal) and her shoes she had already. So. Could be worse, imo.

I was pondering on the way to work this morning how much KM and MM must weigh - or more accurately how much would I have to lose to have their figure. They are both teeny weeny. I'm 5' 6" and very bottom end of healthy BMI for me is 8st 3lbs, I just can't imaging being that tiny.

Anyone have a good photo of MM's Victoria Beckham bag yesterday?

VamillaSugar · 11/01/2019 08:49

I was in South Kensington just before Christmas and I sat near a lady in a cafe who was a Kate clone. She was so thin that I thought she might break. I reckon that Kate is 5’10” and weighs 7-7.5 stone.

beanaseireann · 11/01/2019 08:50

Kate wears high street sometimes on official engagements and I think she would wear something less expensive to that charity that Meghan visited yesterday.
It was rather odd to wear expensive clothing to such a charity. A lack of thought/ tact.
Meghan looked lovely though. She is so very pretty.

Laiste · 11/01/2019 08:50

I wouldn't dare to argue that they (the royals as an institution) never do any good. To take that sort of debate to any conclusion you'd need to be able to answer the big question:

Would the country (and ultimately all these causes) benefit more if the royals were sent to live as normal people using their own private money, and all the assets left behind which belong to the state were used freely to generate money.

Trying to stay on the main road of the the thread - chatting about the expensive frocks - is hard sometimes. You do find yourself wandering down republican side paths :)

Perhaps the point of difference between seeing Kate and MM in their £££ is closeness to the line of succession? It's stretching it all a little bit tight i guess when an x actress who has married the brother of someone who is the son of the man who is the son of the queen is suddenly 'royal'.

VamillaSugar · 11/01/2019 08:54

......

Anyway, back to the clothes.

@VamillaSugar yikes. That would require me losing nearly three and a half stone and gaining 4" in height. I might have to rethink :D

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 11/01/2019 09:04

Not a very flattering article about QMary Curly

Thank you Vamilla

Queen I meant I’m ordinary. Meghan is stunning & definitely not ordinary. Diana wow. Beautiful woman.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/01/2019 09:09

@Spudlet The LK Bennett dress Kate wore on her last charity visit was £325. So more expensive than Meghan's dress yesterday, though of course she didn't wear an ODLR coat over it! But the plaid skirt she wore to the RAF lunch cost over £1000, so I think it all balances out.

Although the garments worn by Kate and Meghan are £££’s compared to the budget of normal women, I think they must be purchased at cost because of the huge amount of publicity and PR generated. I can’t see the notoriously frugal (or so we are told) Royals paying more than they need to.

user1457017537 · 11/01/2019 09:25

I am still stunned that the renovations to the relatively small Frogmore House or to cost between £2 to £3 million pounds.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/01/2019 09:27

@IPromise
Sadly that article about Queen Mary is the truth; she was renowned for acquiring pretty objects when she went to visit people.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/01/2019 09:29

I’ve only just had a good look at this Aquamarine tiara Sophie wore to the Swedish royal wedding. Does anyone know anything about it?

Also I presume Sophie is purely funded by the Queen, so she’s not going to have a huge clothing budget.

Royal style and gossip: get yer crowns out for the lads!
QueenOfTheAndals · 11/01/2019 09:34

I'm sure it's very nice but hard to tell from that photo. Sophie drew the tiara short straw - even her wedding one was a bit paltry compared to what Kate, Meghan. Eugenie and Sarah got

OP posts:
queenofarles · 11/01/2019 09:34

BigGreenOlives good point. but i think it would have been more appropriate to wear something recycled, not brand new coat.

Beauty is subjective, i see MM as ordinary too , also don't think the likes of Elizabeth taylor or Jackie kennedy as great beauties, never understood all fuss. thats my own personal view.

But its always implied on these threads, which discuss royalty from all over the world, and are allowed to talk about them freely in any way except for MM. No idea why ida called some of the posters, who criticized the shoes as bitches and sycophants. So childish and immature Hmm .

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/01/2019 09:35

That should've said Zara. But even Sarah got a nicer tiara!

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/01/2019 09:39

No that wasn’t @ida who was rude!
But the poster who did; I agree was childish & immature

A little bit more information on the renovations at Frogmore

Apparently planning was only approved in December. I cannot believe they will get the house renovated and ready for a new baby in what has to be less than 3 months.

I suspect Meghan, Harry and baby will either have to Squeeze into Nottingham cottage or bunk up at Windsor castle when baby Sussex arrives.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/01/2019 09:40

Sarah got to keep her tiara outright . I think all Tiaras since have been loans.

queenofarles · 11/01/2019 09:46

Oh gosh!! A million Apologises Ida BlushFlowers

it was lola .

Bloominglovely · 11/01/2019 10:15

Laiste I have to disagree with your post on many levels.

Being more critical of Meghan because she was an actress?Really? The woman worked for what she achieved and being a successful actress is far more work than all the rich kids who go to work in their parent’s or friend’s of the parent’s companies.

Secondly being more critical of Meghan because she is royal only because she married into the royal family? The RF are not superior to anybody else merely because they were born into the a particular family. They are lucky to have such wealth and privilege. None of them would dream of stepping away from it because they are not fools.

They are rich people that other people curtesy and are not allowed touch or offer a handshake unless they agree to it beforehand.

They are just ordinary people who break wind and poi like every one else and having ordinary people who cannot dream of their wealth and luxury differentiating them even from each other in terms of superiority shows what a successful company they are and the older members of the family are well aware of it as we saw from their reaction to Diana’s death.
