Previous thread.

Usual rules - say what you like about the clothes, keep it civil re the wearers.

The twins are so cute I. That pic!

UrsulaPandress · 08/01/2019 08:52

Wilf's family moved to Birkenhead after the death of his father. I'm sure he and Sassoon shared interests. I'm visiting the site of his death in the summer.

Maybe I could be royal for the day and wear a headband.

Meghan and Harry visiting Birkenhead today.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2019 09:39

It’s next Monday @user

I think the locals will give them a rousing welcome.
H&M haven’t done an official engagement together for months. Certainly not since she was heavily pregnant.
Will be interesting to see if they split up, or he stays by her side ( protectively) for the walkabout.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2019 09:40

I like those photos of the Danish twins. They look like completely normal kids.
I wonder why they picked the one of josephine by herself; not even looking at the camera....

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2019 09:54

They did several engagements last month @Curly but they were all private ones so there weren't any photos taken.

Engagements together I mean.

Oops! Sorry just read and thought it was today!

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2019 09:55

Any bets on what Megs will wear? Black or navy with a wrap coat? Will she move into actual maternity clothes at last? All will be revealed on Monday!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2019 10:16

I know pregnant women get hot, but doing a walkabout in January, she will get cold. It’s either going to be a wrap coat belted high, or maybe a cape! I’m surprised she doesn’t borrow one of Kate’s Maternity coats.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2019 10:35

Do royals usually borrow clothes from each other? Kate is quite a lot taller so her coat would swamp Meghan.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2019 10:49

I was specifically thinking of this coat.
Although it is too thin.
In normal families, if your sister in law was a neighbour and had just had a baby, you would lend / borrow maternity clothes.
There’s the oversize Burberry Meghan wore in Edinburgh.
I think she will go for the grey coat she wore to the royal variety home. A black polo neck and black trousers. ( hopefully flared pants because they look good on her)

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2019 10:55

Meghan’s coats

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2019 10:57

I actually bought 2 pairs of long wide-legged trousers in the post-Xmas sales. And I NEVER wear trousers apart from jeans! Is it the Meghan effect??

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2019 11:03

Probably. It’s been skinny jeans for years. Wide pants look instantly smart. She’s also made the 7/8 length fashionable

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2019 11:05

I can't do 7/8s in winter though! And I'll never give up my skinnies and go back to bootcuts. Just like Kate, I imagine...

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2019 11:07

And of course Diana went there first with cropped trousers!

Fantastic news, IdaBWells - only just caught up with the thread but I'm so happy for you Flowers

Bloominglovely · 08/01/2019 11:50

Hands down I prefer Meghan’s clothes choices over Kate’s any day. Kate wears some (not all) very nice ‘outfits’ and some beautiful dresses (which look very good on her due to her height). However Meghan wears clothes I would easily wear (in the high street version) myself. Her wrap coats, the wide leg trousers, the polo necks. Add those styles to the colours she chooses, again ‘everyday’ colours - charcoal/navy/black/cream/olive they are all colours that are always available Compare to Kate’s yellow, violet, blue. They are difficult colours for people to wear unless they are summer clothes/wedding guest colours etc. She ‘stands out’ wearing these clothes, maybe she does this for the same reason the Queen wears such bright colours, but for someone Kate’s age, they tend to look gaudy and/or inappropriate for our weather, on us. There aren’t ‘high street versions’ around because people would t buy them. I understand why people say Meghan’s clothes can look dreary (although personally I think if them as classier looking). She wears seasonal colours like the majority of us.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/01/2019 11:58

You're not alone @Bloominglovely! I prefer Meghan's choices to Kate's too. She doesn't always get the fit right but when she does I think she looks great - modern and stylish. I don't think I'd ever wear most of what Kate does as it's a bit too conservative for my taste. Granted Meghan has expensive taste but I think it's a more accessible look to replicate.

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2019 12:18

I also agree with Meghan’s style, in terms of what I would actually wear.
I saw a lavender dear / violet coat in M&S but I would never wear it, even though the colour was gorgeous.
I do however appreciate the beautiful colours Kate wears as part of her job, because let’s fave it, that’s the show.
The Queen wears tweeds, a cardi and wax jacket in her private life.
Kate wears her Bretons, skinny jeans and Zara. I doubt very much she pops on an Anne Boleyn headband and bright coat to pip into Waitrose!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/01/2019 12:18

Sorry for all the typos.

beanaseireann · 08/01/2019 12:25

QueenoftheAndals
I will never give up my skinnies either.
Boot cut looks daft on me.

VamillaSugar · 08/01/2019 12:39

Why have I got a pop up for maternity jeans????

Laiste · 08/01/2019 13:12

I have a couple of pairs of palazzo pants in summer weight fabric which look nice with heels and strappy flats. I can't picture me in boot cuts again. What winter boots would go?

Mind you I remember wearing levi Roxanne skinny (drain pipes were they called?)(and not very stretchy at all) jeans in the early 90s and being horrified by boot cut coming into fashion. All that flappy fabric! Ugh. Then, as you do, you get sucked in and i wore boot cut for years. More and more flappy as time went on! Anyone remember the Miss60 black tight round the bum and thigh boot cuts? Flared from the knee more or less. I loved them! (i'm blessed with a nice bum)(sheer luck). Can't remember what boots i was wearing underneath them though ...

When skinny came back in i was horrified once again Grin Everyone looked like a frog! Now i'm back in them and frowning about the idea of a flared shape on me ... fashion does your head in!
