Thanks Xing, I have PM'ed you.

Mrs8 - I did have a look at Fragrantica but was overwhelmed, LOL. I know the answer is to try millions of things but there are so many many things...

Thanks UnnecessaryFennel, I will see if I can find those anywhere. Where does one find original Miss Dior - do people still sell it?

CatherineMaitland · 17/01/2019 22:45

I had absolutely no idea you could get sets like that! Thank you CountFosco.

Yes, I really liked Dryad. I did try some standard perfumes just after before Christmas, J'adore and some other samples free in Harper's Bazaar and even my untrained novice nose could tell Dryad (well, all the Papillon samples) were something else.

I also tried Penhaligon's Quercus but it smelled more like washing-up liquid on me than anything else...

MrsLucas · 18/01/2019 00:01

Catherine - easy to pick up vintage Miss Dior on ebay very cheaply. Just to add to Fennel's suggestions, if you like green/mossy notes it's worth keeping an eye out on ebay for vintage Givenchy III, YSL Y and No.19 too.

SOTD L'Air de Rien. I am SO happy it's Friday, what a long week.

KaliforniaDreamz · 18/01/2019 10:31

Morning all i had some Tisserand roller balls arrive from TK Max in the post so SOTD is DE STRESS!! which smells much like a massage with essential oils would smell...

i am quite calm right now so maybe there's something in it!!

My PP Le Labo bergamot 22 arrived yesterday. I haven’t smelt the original so can’t compare but it’s a lovely scent regardless. Very unisex and it lasted all day on me

MrsLucas · 18/01/2019 13:22

Cattus - really sorry, but not sure how to help with that. Perhaps ask MFK for a full list of ingredients and then do some cross referencing against known allergens to see if you can whittle down the likely culprit?

Perfumes get described by their notes (what their constituent elements smell like), but these effects can potentially be achieved in a number of ways, using different combinations of natural and synthetic ingredients. So you do need to find a list of actual ingredients. Where included, these are usually in teeny tiny print.

There might be a scientist on the thread who can be of more help?

KaliforniaDreamz · 18/01/2019 15:45

I get a migraine from Samsara
i think if you're sensitive to stuff generally )make up, smells, food, sounds, moods) it happens with perfume

annoying

SOTD is now L'air de rien
it is very grown up

Shock Flowers Mrsr8

XingMing · 18/01/2019 17:24

I am aching to try the Le Labo Tonka mentioned above. I don't suppose PP have duped it yet? Interested to know... they generally seem to do Le Labo well.

I'm happy to offer my Salome sample if you want to try it, Mrs8.

I take it from these threads that most people aren't picking one scent to wear forever and ever. :)

UnnecessaryFennel · 18/01/2019 18:28

No, we are definitely pretty ...ummm...promiscuous on here, Catherine

Perfume-wise, of course Grin

There are simply too many wonderful things in the world to sniff!

(Still talking about perfume, honest)

I definitely won't use it, my husband described it on me as "powdered corpse." :)

CountFosco · 18/01/2019 18:50

MrsR8 Be warned, your post may affect how you interpret Salome. For me it was pure sex, days spent in bed with skinny indie boys. For DH it reminded him of old ladies and antique shops. Make of that what you will.

Catherine, I think a few of us are here after our personal quests for the one just ended up revealing the impossibility of one bottle being perfect for day and night, spring, summer, autumn and winter and a variety of moods and situations. Along the way we discovered a lot of things we loved for different reasons, and have just kept on sniffing,...

Sound familiar anyone?

MrsLucas · 18/01/2019 18:56

I so need to smell Salome.

UnnecessaryFennel · 18/01/2019 19:09

Definitely MrsL. I do have my perennial favourites, but the pull of the new (or old) is too irresistible at times often. Catherine, you need to just dive in and get sniffing...it's a rabbit hole but a very rewarding one and doesn't need to be overly expensive eyes bank balance warily

Anyway, SOTD has been the rather fabulous Babylon Sunset. This should absolutely not be good on me - fruity florals are not usually my bag - but this is a cracker. A smooth, honeyed peachy jasmine, both cheerful and sophisticated, if such a thing is possible, and really lovely for a dark January day.

UnnecessaryFennel · 18/01/2019 19:11

You would love Salome! It's very Theo Fennell-ish.

The sample collection is only £18...go onnnnnnnnnn

Why did I know that powdered corpse would appeal to several of us.
