Hi, I’m back from Belvoir Castle and I sneakily took some photos of The Duchess’ Collection which is her own personally curated shop. Here are some clothes which the Duchess thinks we might think is what posh people wear so we might want to buy them...

I have a cape like that which was my great aunts. My MIL is horrified that my DC wear Sunday best from 3-4 generations ago or older. One dress is from about 1870.

Going back to PP talking about DofS getting pregnant so quickly, I think she was very smart. More bad news was going to come and with her being pregnant people will be lienient. Once the DC arrives it's a done deal and going after her is just petty at that point. Basically it's the smartest move she has made in terms of managing her image.

Gingerivy · 22/12/2018 15:27

That University Fox link seems really petty and mean - big "oh my god, fashion faux pas!!" over minor stuff and frankly some stuff that wasn't even necessarily an error.

Spudlet · 22/12/2018 15:33

Is that cape paired with a pair of jodhpurs?! Just imagining the damage a snotty, grassy horse snog could do to that baby - not to mention the risk of a rogue gust of wind sending it flapping - and your trusty steed into the next county (with or without rider attached).

I think I might stick to a hay strewn, hairy old fleece Xmas Grin

Want2bSupermum · 22/12/2018 15:35

I wore my cape at home in my bedroom while doing homework. I was permanently cold and it helped a lot. That and drinking hot water.

Rhubarbisevil · 22/12/2018 15:43

You lived in a big old stone house, didn’t you want2besupermum? I do and it never gets above 13 degrees!

Sadly I’m going to give Sandringham a miss this year so sorry about the lack of personal photos. I’ll be relying on you lot for the fashion comments though! I wonder if Meghan will wear a new coat or recycle one of her previous coats, ie the engagement coat?

I also think that we forget that the RF have very formal private dinners and so all the clothes which get debuted in public will most likely be worn again and again for private events. Pence per wear, and all ..

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 22/12/2018 15:51

Looking at all those frocks posted makes me wonder what it feels like to be a ‘married in’ - must be surreal.

OlennasWimple · 22/12/2018 16:28

That cape is awesome

Great photos, Rhubarb

WipsGlitter · 22/12/2018 17:02

What additional bad news was there going to be @Want2bSupermum?

Want2bSupermum · 22/12/2018 18:33

Rhubarb Yes stone home with stone floors and big rooms. It was freezing. I thought boarding school was going to be better and I might experience warmth but no it was also a stone building and very very cold.

Wips This isn't a thread to discuss gossip. It's about their image and what they wear. I'm not going to dive into the gutter to discuss the DofS. Quite frankly it's irrelevant at this point to discuss the DofS in this way. PH had his opportunity to not marry her. To drag up her past is wholly unfair to them as they start their married life. Before she married, fair enough, now she is married, it's too late and I think it's extremely disrespectful to all involved. We all make our choices and they will live with the consequences of those choices, both positive and negative.

TipseyTorvey · 22/12/2018 18:53

I'm thinking about dressing up for Christmas day this year instead of my usual jeans and cheesy jumper in honour of this thread. Due to the ridiculously good sales at the moment I have a couple of good sparkly options. I don't have a tiara though....although I could nick one of the Frozen ones from the DCs dressing up box and pretend I suppose.

BeverlyGoldberg · 22/12/2018 19:43

I'm debating sparkly dress and my wedding tiara. Can't wait to see everyone's face! "Whoops Mummy's been on the champagne early doors"

Spudlet · 22/12/2018 19:55

I think I'm going Casual Kate in skinny jeans and a breton. The top has sequins on it though!

IdaBWells · 22/12/2018 20:52

Nothing wrong with an ambitious woman. It's female ambition, especially of the social kind that seems to leave some people apoplectic. Maybe it's because we don't really acknowledge power unless it is of the obvious male dominated type, with a formal role and position.

There are other forms of power which are very influential. I think Carole Middleton is great, for example. She is a very successful businesswoman and has elevated her kids in one generation. Although I understand Michael Middleton does have a trust fund and is from a very comfortable background himself. I just love that they seem a very loving, high functioning family who now will be very influential over the next generation of royal children. Did you see the photos of Carole taking George to the zoo and carrying him on her shoulders when he was a toddler?

And she also has great personal style. Loved her outfit for C&W's wedding.

queenofarles · 22/12/2018 21:56

PH had his opportunity to not marry her what's that supposed to mean ?
Blimey want2be your posts only Puts light on some really damaging bad news that you know of but don't want to talk about, it's very confusing why mention it then?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/12/2018 23:02

Browsing through some vintage European Royal Wedding photos.
Here are King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway on their wedding day.
It is incredible how CP Haakon is a perfect blend of the two.
Looks like his Dad with his mother’s eyes.

Royal style and gossips: gowns and crowns but please no frowns!
WipsGlitter · 22/12/2018 23:02

I agree @queenofarles it's a drip feed of hints and then pearl clutching!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2018 23:16

Quite @queenofarles. Why mention it at all on the first place and then get on a high horse when @WipsGlitter asked about it? Bottom line is they're married, seem very happy and anyone can pretend to know anything on the internet...

Anyway, here's the royal family's Christmas card from 1938. For all that she looks so matronly, the Queen Mum is not much older in it than Kate and Meghan are now!

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Princess Marthe-Louise is the image of Queen Sonja!

I'm sitting in the lobby of my local movie theater waiting to see The Favourite. Looking forward to savoring some early 18th Century royal fashion.

Becles · 22/12/2018 23:53

want2be Is very anti-Meghan and most of her posts are either snide put downs or implications about her character etc. Nothing ever fully out in the open, but posts full of innuendo and negativity.

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/12/2018 23:59

@SenecaFalls That is on my list for next month. Poor Queen Anne, what a sad life she had really. To lose 17 children is just beyond tragic.

My point is that, as I've shared before on a previous thread in this series, she made mistakes at the start and yes is learning. It's not an easy role and is so easy to get wrong. When I say PH had his opportunity to not marry her, I mean that he was the one who proposed, he never lengthened the engagement and he married her. All his choice and his to make. Yes she is ambitious and I think the media are being unfair to her. It's PH they should be upset with, not his wife. I've also shared why she is having a hard time with the media. She made some major mistakes and pissed off a lot of people. However, she is learning a new role in a country where she doesn't know the culture or the history and doesn't have a supportive family behind her. It was never going to smooth.

One thing that struck me today as I was taking my eldest for a ride is how neither the DofC nor the DofS are keen riders (actually what I mean is horse mad!). I've grown up around horses, our family home had a 30 block stables so it was just part of life growing up. Even now my father at the age of 70+ rides and keeps 4 horses for himself along with his professional stables which has 35 stalls. I'm here in Denmark and have taken my DC riding a few times now as DHs cousin rides and has just purchased her DD a pony. Nothing wrong with not being keen on riding but I think it's kinda funny how neither of them seem keen.
