Made sure my autocorrect didn't spoil that title...

As always, let's keep it light and avoid any spite!

@AdaColeman
Yes that is extremely entitled of William.
All very well giving all of his salary to charity but he would have cost his welsh neighbours millions.
Yes the RAF base may have been grim; but that is real life.
I guess the royals like the Marie Antoinette version.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 18:26

I thought she sounded a bit like Jackie Kennedy. I guess Grace Kelly’s accent would also have been Northeastern drawl

SenecaFalls · 15/12/2018 18:27

Caroline of Monaco speaks French, English, Italian, German, and Spanish.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 18:34

Hottie Haakon back at his he starts speaking at about 14 mins. Is worth watching to see what he does at 15 mins.
His accent is sort of American with a staccato Norwegian inflection.

Moononthehill28 · 15/12/2018 18:37

If that’s true Ada, it’s not good. Surely he had his own protection officers? I think Charles is to blame. The money should have come from the Duchy. He’s a very rich man. Obviously the future King couldn’t have lived in Barracks with his wife!!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 18:46

CP Frederick & Mary wedding interview and . Apparently he was known as the “Turbo Prince”
Can any Australians on the thread comment on Mary’s accent for me? ( getting a bit obsessed Here)

MetuaVahine · 15/12/2018 18:52

How I love this thread! I come from 3 cultures/countries, one of them is still a monarchy, one is a staunch republican country and the last used to be made up of many kingdoms but the system was "replaced" by colonisation.

I love following various RF on Instagram and am fascinated with royal jewellery.

My favourite Christmas cards are the ones with a Christmas theme. I really like the one from Albert and Charlene.

AdaColeman · 15/12/2018 18:58

missclimpson I don't think the exact location was ever revealed, but they shopped in Blaenau, so it can't have been very far away.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 18:58

Well I’ve come across something really interesting. Apparently Danish Royals are not allowed to marry Danes, or they will be removed from the RF. The current Princes needed the permission of the Queen, Margarethe to marry. Joachim’s 2 wives were British & French and of course Mary is Australian. Is something to do with Denmark being a small country. (5 million); so they all know each other’s business.
There is some discussion here about it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/12/2018 18:59

Hmm Mary's accent definitely sounded more Aussie in the clip they show of her at her old job, but by the time of their engagement interview it had already taken on a more singsong quality that she's retained to this day.

Well that could explain why there's yet to be a Danish monarch with Danish blood @CurlyWurlyTwirly! I suspect it's an archaic law that would swiftly be changed if Christian were to fall in love with a Danish woman in 20 years time.

King Harald speaks English with an American accent, too. He lived in the US as a boy.

AaahhwoooooOOOOooOOOOo1 · 15/12/2018 19:16

The base at Valley is grim! Can fully understand why they wouldn't want to live there

They wouldn’t have been allowed to for some time, since they weren’t married when William was first posted there and unmarried people can’t be allocated a quarter on patch...

Nothing to do with it being grim I suspect.

AaahhwoooooOOOOooOOOOo1 · 15/12/2018 19:18

Well... Not just because it’s grim 😂

missclimpson · 15/12/2018 19:19

AdaColeman Blaenau Ffestiniog is over 30 miles from Anglesey. I thought the estate they were on was near Newborough and she shopped in Waitrose in Menai Bridge (according to a friend of a friend).

HairyDilemma! please be someone I know in real life .

PawneeParksDept · 15/12/2018 20:51

Just letting you all know that if you have the Apple News app there's a really good article on there by Marie Claire confirming what I said about no kids at the Christmas table, several threads ago. Smile

owlshooting · 15/12/2018 20:58

How horrible for the children and the parents. Who wants to have Christmas lunch in a stuffy dining room with the kids upstairs with the nanny? How awful. What sort of message does it send to the children that they are shut out of what should be a family event? Totally dysfunctional.

owlshooting · 15/12/2018 21:05

I see the media are saying now that Doria will NOT be going to Sandringham for Christmas. Another example of completely fictitious information in the first place>

SenecaFalls · 15/12/2018 21:07

But they have other activities that do include the children, from what I have read. They exchange presents on Christmas Eve during a big afternoon tea that is attended by the children.

owlshooting · 15/12/2018 21:08

Thats not the same as Christmas lunch though is it Seneca?

Butterymuffin · 15/12/2018 21:09

I agree owl. It's not how I'd want to do Christmas. Bet it's more fun and family-friendly at the Middletons.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/12/2018 21:12

@pawneeparksdept
I just can’t believe that Will & Kate would want to be separated from their kids. I can imagine they would be at Anmer first thing, then do the church

PawneeParksDept · 15/12/2018 21:21

Basically The Queen herself was brought up in the Victorian tradition did the same with her own and as Christmas is by Royal Command can organise it how the fuck she likes and they can put up or shut up.

As I've said on past thread pre this one on this subject (old usernames) I do believe this is why they alternate with Bucklebury to give the children a semblance of normal Christmas.

Expect these rigid traditions to vanish when William is King and potentially Charles

Additionally I suspect that the reason they are NOT going to Bucklebury though it's their year to, is NOT to do with any kind of rift with Meghan or appearance BUT the stark realisation that this Christmas could be the last for both the Queen AND Philip and wanting their older children to remember them both Sad

Remember the LOOK between Camilla and Kate when HM appeared unsteady

owlshooting · 15/12/2018 21:26

I'm really surprised that W and K are not going to Buckleberry this year. Especially since Pippa will be there with her new baby. It is confusing also that in the interviews with Carole she mentioned her excitement at having the whole family, Christmas trees for the kids etc etc. What was that all about then?

Agree the reason might be Philip. He is really on his last legs, poor man.
