Link to previous thread.

And once again, let's keep this good-spirited. Spiteful comments are about as welcome as Fergie at Prince Philip's birthday party!

I am uncomfortable with self-proclaimed humanitarians, feminists and do-gooders.

Blowing their own trumpet springs to mind.

Just do it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2018 13:02

Hang on ... I've just noticed this in Curly's link above:

(Meghan) delivered a talk alongside Justin Trudeau and famously called out the Suits creator for gender inequality for requiring her character to do so many semi-naked scenes on the show

Wasn't it after this that she did the much-publicised, raunchy burger ad for Men's Health? Hmm

DontCallMeCharlotte · 10/12/2018 13:25

I'd be happy to be semi-naked next to Justine Trudeau.

Sorry, did I say that out loud?

Aaaaaanyway, MM looks incredibly beautiful in that picture in the snow with HH (good call there Queen).

Yes, actions speak louder than words, to coin a phrase. And if they do it, they should engage properly. Using the misery of some of the poorest people on the planet to make yourself look good is unseemly. Too many slebs, actors and royalty are at it. It disgusts me.

katekat383 · 10/12/2018 13:45

Justine? You mean Justin?

Becles · 10/12/2018 14:17

Yawn. All celebs do this with charities, what actual getting hands dirty has Kate done.

It's about raising the profile of the charity and the celeb (or royal) getting a fluffy boost.

either

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/12/2018 14:20

It's a double-edged sword isn't it? Do lots of visble charity work and you get accused of doing it for your own personal glory, do it all unpublicised and behind the scenes and you'll get accused of just sitting on your arse and not doing anything!

OP posts:
SenecaFalls · 10/12/2018 14:30

The charities definitely want it publicized. That is the main point of royal and celebrity patronage.

Spudlet · 10/12/2018 14:34

Damn right it is! Volunteers are wonderful and great, and charities need them. But they need profile too. No, a Megan or a Kate won't be scrubbing kitchens or making tea rounds, or archiving decades worth of pictures (my last lovely volunteer's job!), but they will get that charity's name out there, which is vital. Nobody can help you do your good work if they don't know you exist. Them showing up for an event or whatever isn't meaningless, it's carefully thought out and useful.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 10/12/2018 14:49

Oh lord! Definitely Justin!

(I actually can't type it without adding an e?!)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/12/2018 15:17

Not quite, perhaps - as I mentioned on an earlier thread, Anne does a massive amount for Save the Children and certainly could never be accused of being workshy

Admittedly she'll talk about it where it's relevant, but she certainly doesn't drag it into every last thing; she just gets on and does it ... and without the apparent need for a host of media following her round

ViragoKnows · 10/12/2018 15:22

I’m just picturing P. Anne’s reaction to MM and her public comments 😏

I bet she’s wonderfully scathing.

Becles · 10/12/2018 15:23

What exactly does Anne do apart from photo ops adding a royal gloss to events, what's she done differently to Meghan?

PawneeParksDept · 10/12/2018 15:25

Princess Anne has been known for decades
as "the hardest working royal" because she completes the most engagements per year every year - often with minimal publicity or none.

And is the Paton of a great many charities inc. most obviously Save The Children

ViragoKnows · 10/12/2018 15:28

*What exactly does Anne do apart from photo ops adding a royal gloss to events, what's she done differently to Meghan?

You’re joking? Famously she does more engagements per year than any other royal, most of them low key and unreported. Doesn’t talk herself up or make a fuss.

ViragoKnows · 10/12/2018 15:28

X post again 😏

Haworthia · 10/12/2018 15:40

Anne isn’t a “glamour” princess. She doesn’t have paps following her around like the Cambridges and Sussexes. She knows that her engagements won’t make the papers. There are no photo ops and no “Royal gloss” associated with her work - just work. I can only assume that she has a reputation for being a grafter because she is one (well, we’re not talking heavy manual work “graft” here, obvs Grin)

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/12/2018 15:47

I'm not sure she ever did "glamour", even in her youth. She left all that to Diana. In fact, was the kind of promotion the Cambridges and Sussexes do even around pre-Diana?

CP Victoria is wearing one of her mother's old Nobel Ceremony dresses today.

Paradyning · 10/12/2018 15:55

Erm. Not sure about that dress CPV!!!
Really like Sofia's red dress. Don't like the choker with it though

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/12/2018 15:58

I was thinking the same thing about the choker @Paradyning! Love the red dress though, and the cape effect sleeves.

Queen Princess Madeline and her DH are both totally in love with each other. It is really nice to see and I have so much respect for him for being so strong when under so much pressure to give up his career.

On a personal level I'm under a lot of pressure to give up my career. Scandinavian culture is very strange because they talk of this notion of equality but their version of equality doesn't mesh with mine. I'm often treated like I'm a 2nd class citizen in Denmark because I'm a foreigner. I have a middle eastern sounding name because I don't use my Jewish last name as the discrimination is worse with that. Scandis are extremely nationalistic and honestly it doesn't matter what you do, it will always be wrong for as long as you don't speak Danish/Swedish/Norwegian and goodness help you if you have any sort of asperations. I've had career goals which I have achieved. I've been told this is holding back DHs career because they want a wife who will take care of everything. If Princess Madelines DH gave up work they would find fault with that too and the fact he doesn't speak Swedish is a major problem. Far better that didn't take a title and he doesn't take up swedish citizenship nor rely on public funds for their lifestyle. Also, to qualify for Danish citizenship you have to have a good command of Danish. I think the same rule applies to Sweden albeit less stringent because there was talk of me getting Swedish citizenship with the UK leaving the EU.

PawneeParksDept · 10/12/2018 16:04

A British friend of mine makes similar observations about Sweden, Supermum
Ie it's superficially quite right on but at the end of the day if a woman doesn't want children or the lions share of the childcare, she's a freak.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/12/2018 16:29

I posted a picture of Anne a few threads back dressed exactly like that (no builders bum or swearing mind) when she visited a sewage works.

You only have to look at the court circular to see she does about 3 engagements a day. No lounging around eating bonbons all day for Our Anne.
