I think everyone has suggested the kind of places I'd go to get some short-term-baby gear. I'm sure other parents or grandparents would be able to help out if their children/ grandchildren have outgrown stuff and they haven't got rid yet...or if they won't be using them for a bit. I'd second (third?) the Ikea highchair ( though if you're as clumsy as me you'll be tripping over the bastard legs all the time) and we had one of those packaway highchairs (a "totseat") which was useful for travelling. We also had a travel cot that kind of folded away like a tent that was really lightweight and took up basically no room. (Still lend it to our neighbours when their neices come to visit...that's how good we are at getting rid of old baby stuff...DS is 7!!)

I suppose if you want a few toys you could see if a local playgroup/ church creche/ children's centre or somewhere has a few you could borrow for a donation (playgroups may not be using them over Christmas if they aren't running groups then) - or maybe a local toy library (or actual library for board books etc). Though an 8 month old will probably be happy with some wooden spoons/ boxes/ chewing through some electricity cables like most 8 month olds .

Is it wool you are after? Uniqlo do a few they have v necks too. Or presumably the fail-safe John Lewis/ M and S. I got a perfectly decent ( if a bit acrylic-cy) short length black cardi from sainsburys in the spring that has been pretty durable, but not the height of fashion!

But Hush are worse! I'm STILL waiting for my charcoal l/l tank vest top ordered end September.. (in fact I've reordered it since in the 25% weekend and shall send the original back when it finally arrives) .. In other news.. A small Hush box arrived today addressed to DH! , ....Hopefully my cherry zebra scarf!!

not I agree, JL cashmere cardis are the absolute Dogs !.

Len, you may think they are too plain, but they are really soft, wash in the machine ( 30deg 'delicates wash' with Ecover) last really well and go with anything.. l have them in lots of colours bought over the years . I recently bought the Ochre and the washed orange is on the Christmas list
