Hmmm, I might have to have a look for that, my skin gets both dry and spotty at this time of year 🙄 I don't know how it manages to do both, but there you go!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/11/2018 09:42

Speaking of huge age gaps; The Marquess of Cholmondley married someone 25 years younger when he was 50. Nice fertile twenty something to provide the heir and the spare. They are close neighbors of Will & Kate at Anmer.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/11/2018 09:43

New thread specifically for skincare required; methinks? Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 09:50

The Marquess's 6yo son is Earl of Rocksavage. What a great title!

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 09:51

Oh here's a question - what's the difference between being Earl X (like Diana's brother Earl Spencer) and Earl of X? Is one considered more prestigious than the other?

How do you pronounce Cholmondley ?
How you pronounce Anstruther Gough Calthorpe ?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 27/11/2018 10:55

I think Cholmondley is pronounced as Chumley.
Not sure about the other name though I would pronounce Gough as Goff, though you could pronounce it Gow like Slough.
Don't you just love the English language.
My DD is still convinced Reading is pronounced reading as in read a book (like most teenagers she thinks she's right & I'm wrong! Smile )

Spudlet · 27/11/2018 10:56

How do you pronounce Cholmondley ?

I reckon Chumley?

How you pronounce Anstruther Gough Calthorpe ?

I don't Grin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 27/11/2018 11:00

Spudlet I like that Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 11:13

My parents had a friend called Cholmondley and I remember him being called "Chumley".

Here's another starter for 10 - how do you pronounce Featherstonehaugh??

Pupsiecola · 27/11/2018 11:18

There's an excellent skincare thread on here. It's changed my skin (for the better!).

Spudlet · 27/11/2018 11:22

I did look at that one, Pupsiecola, but it went over my head a bit!

Here's another starter for 10 - how do you pronounce Featherstonehaugh??

I don't suppose 'Wotcher love' is an acceptable answer here, is it... ConfusedGrin

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 11:23

Haha! It's actually "Fanshaw".

Good grief! The posh are clearly extremely prone to Irritable Vowel (and Consonant) Syndrome. Imagine their mobile phone bills when you had a letter limit on texts - if they put their full names, they'd be two texts down already Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 11:32

A couple more - Belvoir Castle (home of the Bad Manners sisters) is pronounced "Beaver" and Beauchamp as "Beecham"!

OP posts:
AhoyDelBoy · 27/11/2018 11:36

Oh sweet George! no doubt we will be looking at this photo throughout the decades. The Queen and three future Kings 👑

Spudlet · 27/11/2018 11:37

Those I know - Belvoir Castle is in my home county, and inspires a certain amount of sniggering Grin Also, I believe Jilly Cooper wrote a scene where a terrible social climbing character is embarrassed by an even-worse snobby villain of a character about her inability to pronounce Belvoir in the approved manner.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 11:38

The Manners sister are another lot who appear to be "models" even though they're nothing out of the extraordinary looks-wise. Seems that all you need to make it on the catwalk these days is a famous name or title!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 11:39

I've never read any Jilly Cooper but she's hilarious in interviews, and much how I'd imagine Camilla to be!

OP posts:
Want2bSupermum · 27/11/2018 11:42

I've always thought Jilly Cooper looks a lot like Camilla. Def would imagine their sense of humour to be similar.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 27/11/2018 11:49

Just going off on a tangent here. I always wonder if Queen Victoria had still been alive in 1914 (she would have been 95) would she have said to her grandchildren (Kaiser Wilhem, King George & Tsar Nicholas) stop messing about & being idiots (& also the same to the Austrian Emperor) and do not dare go to War.
Queen Victoria was a very formidable woman.

BlingLoving · 27/11/2018 11:50

@Lonny - I can put essential oils into my oil cleansing!?! How did I NOT know this?! My biggest issue with my Simple cleanser is that it's totally neutral and I love a bit of scent.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 11:53

Not sure about Victoria @TracyBeakerSoYeah, but if Edward VII had still been alive then things might've been different. He was apparently very good at diplomacy. Then again he didn't get on with the Kaiser so...

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 27/11/2018 11:54

@BlingLoving No scent is good! Some essential oils can irritate the skin so be careful.

Portrait of the 9 monarchs who attended Edward VII's funeral. Some truly awesome facial hair there!
