Here's the Travolta; it was definitely Diana which gave it life.

I thought the same when I saw some Diana dresses on exhibition a few years ago, and also when I went to the Grace Kelly exhibition at the V&A. Their frocks didn't necessarily have hanger appeal but when worn they looked amazing.

I do hope that some of the younger RFs have corgis. For me, it would be sad for the breed to no longer to be the royal dog.

I think so too. Corgis are so strongly associated with the royal brand.

CP Mary: I like the blue shirt but I don't think the "half-untucked" look does anyone any favours.

Kate: Love the grey coat-dress and the Aspinall bag. Elegant and very appropriate to both season and occasion.

I never knew, wine time

Mind you I was only born in 1982 so wasn't reading the papers at that point Grin

In fairness it could just have been a myth written by the press but if I remember correctly her heels got higher post divorce.

BagelGoesWalking · 29/11/2018 01:19

Thinking back, the Diana phenomenon was really the first time that "celebrity" had been applied to royalty in such a big way. Not just in tabloids but worldwide coverage in broadsheets and TV. Obviously, Princess Margaret before her, but not to such international acclaim and publicity.

I'm trying to remember if there were film stars who had such reach - Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in their day perhaps?

AhoyDelBoy · 29/11/2018 02:02

A must share video! Kate chatting to the crowds I just love her 🤷🏼‍♀️😍

user1457017537 · 29/11/2018 04:44

I must confess a soft spot for Prince Charles and Camilla. A friend attended an opening night and they arrived in the very old stately Rolls Royce, his suit was very old, but Camilla’s diamonds were fabulous!
True style! I must say I had a little laugh at the official photos showing PC working very hard, sitting in an armchair reading with a cup of tea. I do think he is quite visionary in his own way with his support of organic produce since the 70s, and his home, Highgrove, is beautiful. I like the way Camilla keeps her own home to spend normal time with her family as well.

Beautiful shots of the DoS: Look at that bump 🤰🏽

AhoyDelBoy · 29/11/2018 04:49

One I hadn’t seen: Harry and Meghan 😍

AhoyDelBoy · 29/11/2018 04:50

Jeepers Queen just realised we’re at 961 posts!

Clionba · 29/11/2018 05:12

Ahoy nice pics - Harry and Meghan have the same nose!

mrscampbellblackreturns · 29/11/2018 05:28

That was a lovely video Ahoy - Kate looks so much younger in videos than in photos. Or maybe she has started on a little botox again ;) (I love botox so no shade meant)

And in the minority on this thread I am loving the velvet hair bows - I wonder if that is a Jennifer Behr one.

Quantumblue · 29/11/2018 06:33

Grace Kelly was the first to cross the line between celebrity and royalty. Guess monaco was seen as pretty small and tacky then too.

TipseyTorvey · 29/11/2018 06:55

Panicked slightly this morning as this thread is nearly full up and I need it for my first tea of the morning! Queen are you busy thinking up a funky new title?

Hairydilemma · 29/11/2018 06:59

Curly thank you - some of the dresses may have changed, I think they swap some in and out sometimes.

When I went there was one dress (might have been navy actually) with marks on and the explanatory card next to it said they surmised they were William and Harry’ fingerprints from hugging Diana before she went out.

Agree with you that the appeal of some of the dresses was definitely in the wearing. And I thought the green coat with the large check and collars (which she wore in Venice IIRC) looked really worn and tired which surprised me as surely she must have only worn it once or twice.

WipsGlitter · 29/11/2018 07:00

@mrscampbellblackreturns apparently the bow is jcrew but it's sold out. They do have the tortoiseshell hairband she's worn though which I'm really tempted to get as I love a hair band!!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 29/11/2018 07:01

Thanks for the heads up Curly

I think wearing my own tiara to dinner will give me a certain royal look Wink

Hairydilemma · 29/11/2018 07:08

Thanks for that video AhoyDelBoy.

Kate sounds so much more natural when she’s speaking to that crowd than when I’ve heard her before.

Which is understandable I suppose, I wouldn’t be at my most relaxed giving a speech or doing a TV interview - would definitely have my
‘Telephone’ voice on!!

Paradyning · 29/11/2018 07:11

Agree hairy, she doesn't sound half as plummy

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/11/2018 07:35

I am indeed @TipseyTorvey!

Clankboing · 29/11/2018 07:36

Kate sounds so friendly and genuine in those videos.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/11/2018 07:37

I think W&K are off to Cyprus for a couple of days next week and then it's the annual diplomatic dinner, but we'll be lucky to even get car shots.

@hairydilemma
I must admit, I didn’t read many of the cards, I just looked at the pictures. To be honest I could have taken my time as there was no one in some of the rooms and Max 2or 3. Definitely worth a visit.
I’m not sure who posted about the M&S sparks card offer. But I just showed the card, no email required. I got 25% off which was a fair bit given the entrance fee is £25.
(I spent it in the gift shop).
You actually don’t need to pay the entrance fee to visit the tea room and gift shop. They are well worth a visit, I thought. There are tonnes of books on fashion in the tea room which you could browse through. I also though the gift shop was very reasonable given it is a London Tourist attraction.

GrumbleBumble · 29/11/2018 07:42

My DH was supposed to be serving in Cyprus so we could have got a scoop but he's been returned early.

beanaseireann · 29/11/2018 07:42

Kate on walkabout- All that 'Hello, nice to meet you ' - I'd be worn out !
Definitely less plummy.
I think she looked nice and was very friendly but oh so thin.
I prefer her hair down but I think it's safer to have it up with all the bending down and close contact with people.
Lyclear anyone
